I was hoping I'd never have to make this video, but as Kansas says, nothing lasts forever. While I was on vacation, my beloved 1971 Mercury 500 decided to also take a vacation while we were out on the lake. What's in store next for project 19th hole? Stay tuned to find out!

Are you trying to figure out the current engine output or what you can put in it? Generally the capacity plate will not have max horsepower for an inboard or I/O, generally only for outboards

I have the the same boat, 1964 Just purchase it a week ago with a running 9.9 90's johnson. Did your boat handle that 50hp okay? How heavy you think that boat can handle? You think a 90hp would be too much weight?

This one is a 1959 and it was only made for 2 years, ‘58 and ‘59 which makes it a very rare find. It handles the 50 just fine, and this particular boat is rated for up to 60hp. It all depends on what the boat is rated for. You may have a capacity plate somewhere on the boat that will tell you. The real difference if you’re looking at something new is the weight. This motor weighs 100lbs less than a brand new 4 stroke. So even if you wanted to go with more power, the weight is probably your limiting factor. I would start by researching the boat manufacturer and model to see what it is rated for before throwing a huge motor on it. These old boats are so light that they don’t need a ton of power to move them. This one will outperform my parents bayliner with 1/4 the power in every category but top speed.

Do you still have the Bayliner

Yes I do. It belongs to my parents; my wife and I are hopefully going to take it out this weekend and then I'll winterize it right after.
