I idolized Sam Harris until he started his both sides political rhetoric. He should stick to calling out the hypocrisy/absurdity of religion and stop pandering to both sides of the aisle. For someone who claims to not be religious, it's strange how Sam's views have shifted dramatically to the right since the attacks on Israel.......which I condemn. Yes, I know Sam is of Jewish heritage, but his hypocrisy cannot be denied. Sadly, Sam has become a clown like Richard Dawkins......whom I also once respected. Sam Harris is complicit in our failed political system, though his overinflated ego would never allow him to say that.
@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans764813 сағат бұрын
Well, the idolization was wrong from the start. Any mortal can change perspective, and that not always according to reason. I obviously do not condemn religion qua religion. The bible even spells out what good religion is, and it's benevolent and altruistic, and it's based on a real spirit. But I condemn a religion that centers itself on the wrong spirit. Maybe Sam Harris, by refusing to acknowledge the right spirit, fell in with the wrong spirit.

How to set up barter systems, community gardens, animal husbandry, and cash crops like cannabis (where legal) how do we defend ourselves, because no one is coming to help us. This progessive left audience has been attacking me all day. Do we work together or do we let them win? Because im a nihilist. I will gladly disappear into the mountains and watch it all burn, so why would everyone left of center right attack each other over every single thing instead of building coalitions? Im confused.....
@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans764813 сағат бұрын
I'm not a nihilist, in fact not even an atheist, but I also note painfully that only good faith can drive out bad faith. I'd say to everybody: stop worrying about the mediums. Ponder on the ends. The madness that resulted from this extreme specialized media concentration will punish its own perpetrators. Sometimes it really is a case of "fart" around and find out. Big Brother was supposed to put televisions in houses by force, something that could be more easily resisted. He wasn't supposed to sell you smartphones, and then lies on smartphones, by guile. We didn't have the right warning memes in our culture, arguably. Eventually there were (e.g. Bo Burnham's "Welcome to the Internet") but even those were more about mindlessness than about refocusing a whole popular mind set. It'll depend on exactly how the pieces fall into place as to whether, and if so, how, we'll emerge. I'm thinking now about C. S. Lewis' "The Abolition Of Man" in which Conditioners would fall under brute nature in their Conditioning of mankind and thus wipe out the ethics that turn out to be quite common among many world philosophies and faiths, not just Christianity. It turns out the Conditioning wasn't difficult once we had the smartphone and yes! it's gone brutal. The GQP did not show us Shakespeare; it didn't even show us opera; it showed us WWE and a pack of plausible lies (plausible if never fact checked, that is, and narrowcasting made that possible). Oh, to have actually foretold this with more specifics! One could have saved a world from madness. And I don't agree with all the nuances of Lewis. But Lewis pegged this one.
