THE END OF THE TOUR tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter (and novelist) David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace's groundbreaking epic novel, Infinite Jest. As the days go on, a tenuous yet intense relationship seems to develop between journalist and subject. The two men bob and weave around each other, sharing laughs and also possibly revealing hidden frailties - but it's never clear how truthful they are being with each other. Ironically, the interview was never published, and five days of audio tapes were packed away in Lipsky's closet. The two men did not meet again. The film is based on Lipsky's critically acclaimed memoir about this unforgettable encounter, written following Wallace's 2008 suicide. Both Segel and Eisenberg reveal great depths of emotion in their performances and the film is directed with humor and tenderness by Sundance vet James Ponsoldt from Pulitzer- Prize winner Donald Margulies' insightful and heartbreaking screenplay.(C) A24

I love how this film portrays Lipsky as both genuine and opportunistic. He wants to develop a friendship with DFW, but doesn't want to pass up the chance to write a memorable profile to boost his own career. Excellent film, easily one of 2015's best so far. Great review! So happy to see THE Amy Nicholson join the WTF table.

I felt that it deserved an Oscar nomination, especially as it would have come out of nowhere for most people.

Amy is wonderful--please visit more often ♡ But i wish Alonso and Bibs would let her speak more, especially since she's a guest reviewer... Just my observation, but seems like it's the female critics here like Christy and Amy who are better listeners and try not to interrupt as much.

Eun-hae Kim I've also noticed that.Christy gets interrupted the most, especially when Ben is in the panel, and she's usually the most polite out of them.

I can't wait to see this, but since I'm from the Twin Cities, I might be bothered by the anachronisms. Already saw one in the trailer.

Hey reminder five years later -if you haven't watched it, do it now. Most of the world is limited of outdoor activities now anyway, so perfect time to cross it off the list. It's a seriously great film.

@@UnderdogTactics awesome! I feel like the movie is under distributed. It is rated highly by most who have seen it but there are a great deal of people who have no clue that it exists or what it is.

the film is shit, it has some good moments but thats only because the exceptional dialogue was directly taken from its source material, just like John Krasiniski's brief interviews with hideous men, nothing new to say on dfw just using his work to wow people who are not familiar to his books.
@jakeboos9860

so for people who don't read this an amazing film. I'm not sure why your judging this movie harshly based on that it has source material.
@TuanLeKreuk
@TuanLeKreuk 8 жыл бұрын
I'm not basing it on the fact that its using the source material, I'm basing it on that they're just trivializing dfw
@jakeboos9860

+Malibu Thompson They don't trivialize him at all. The way he's portrayed and the excellent dialogue make him come across as brilliant.
@TuanLeKreuk
@TuanLeKreuk 8 жыл бұрын
They do trivialize him, as Amy Wallace said if DFW saw the film he would 'wince'. And yes parts of the dialogue were brilliant, but that could be done by anyone, even done poorly, because reading a piece of genius will always sound interesting. Don't negate the fact/
@jakeboos9860
@jakeboos9860 8 жыл бұрын
+Malibu Thompson I'm sorry but if you think that writing an intelligent script that doesnt come off as pretentious regardless if it's based off source material is easy and anyone can do it then you have no comprehension of screenwriting. Also I'm not judging the movie based on whether or not David Foster Wallace would have liked it I'm judging it based on the movie itself, which had excellent performances and a very well written script and is also being universally praised by nearly everyone who sees it.

Goodness, this film would have been so much better without Jesse Eisenberg. He is still playing that neurotic teenager. Besides a great performance as Zuckerberg, I can't stand him.
