Every time I read or listen to Fr. Seraphim, I can only wonder what he might have said concerning our current times. I feel the same when I read St. John of Kronstadt and he cautions against distractions. The same goes for all the Fathers and Mothers of the Church; compared to our modern days of instant communication, distraction and gratification, and the omnipresence of it, they had no idea! In other words, they thought things were bad then, imagine how damned they thought we'd all be if they could speak to us now! God help us!
@adambenedict61555 жыл бұрын
Father, I ask for your blessing. I have Fr. Seraphim Rose and St. John of Kronstadt's books on my nightstand next to my bed. I suspect that Blessed Fr. Seraphim Rose (and St. John of Kronstadt no less) would be somewhat distraught by the fact that we (particularly those of us in the west) have willingly subjected our minds and hearts to the distractions of social media, entertainment, internet, 24-hour news cycles, texting and all sorts of manufactured crises and ideas that come out of our cultures. And how all these serve to to hinder our ability to think critically and clearly about what really matters. Further, excessive attention to all these hinders our ability to genuinely worship, love, and serve the Holy Trinity. In the face of unparalleled opportunity to learn more about our Lord through the Orthodox Faith, we squander it for "likes" on Facebook or Instagram or the latest series on TV. Back in 1985, a non-religious author named Neil Postman warned about this in his book, "Amusing Ourselves to Death". May Blessed Fr. Seraphim Rose and St. John of Kronstadt both pray for us. And May the Holy Trinity have Mercy on Us! - Adam in Illinois, USA

In Christ, Fr Photios Cooper Would also be interested. It is now another Sodom and Gomorrah type of living in many ways. Hard to not be involved in anyway, and yet we must remain as much as possible " In this world; but not part of this world' My thought is that we are pulling toward Socialism/Communism now, right in the U.S.A.! Anyone in old Russia at time of Communism,(which I was not one, but understand those who were) would know that is not a good direction at all. Much anger and viciousness from those who want t his end is obvious. The love of sin and killing, and allowing terror to be part of us calling it proper. The 'eternal life' is far, far from the minds of most. We, the people who are children of our Lord, will be waiting with enough oil to fill out lamps! He will come for us and we will find our way to peace with Him. Presently, we can do our best to help those who will listen, search and find, we pray.

You are not the only one. I can hear Fr. Herman singing if I close my eyes and let my mind go back. I can't believe it has been 40 years already and September 2nd will be the 40th anniversary of Fr. Seraphim's repose. I was at Lesna Convent in France when news reached us that Fr. Seraphim had reposed. I pray we may all meet in Paradise one day. When sad I think back to taking a break outside during All-Night Vigil to get a drink of water and hearing the wind in the trees mixed with the sound of singing from the Church. It was Fr. Seraphim and Fr. Herman who introduced me, so to speak, to St. John Maximovitch of San Francisco and Shanghai, who has been a great blessing in my life.

Sounds like a Vineyard Pentacostal service. As a protestant I saw healings in this context but I never saw healings with laughter. I have seen people slain in the spirit as they call it and I myself got slain in the spirit with the Holy Spirit when 2 catholics prayed for me about 35 years ago. I literally felt my godpoured love all over me. I was going through horrific times so this was a great consolation. No one was laughing. I think the enemy destroyed a good thing by using laughter and irreverence. In my mind it's a huge shame. The laughter movement came about 20 years after I attended vineyard. I became orthodox in 1999.I've realized since then God's grace is far bigger and sometimes more strange than we can all fathom.

@@alfaq654 This is true, I am attempting to point out the bit anyway that it would be doing a disservice to the word to stick with an atheist's conception of Christianity and follow that individual into matters of transcendence/theology when he has no understanding of it as such. Especially with the gnostic aspects of his own profession, with the likes of Jung and Nietzsche being center place to his understanding of ultimate reality, which again, is a materialist conception of his own making. Just throwing that out there dude, as a lot of people can find God, or Logos, or what have you through even an oppositional aspect, as St. Augustine talks about; one just has to be always aware of the fact that the trap can be fallen into when such company is kept beyond the point of usefulness.

We cannot change ourselves although we fight everyday. How comes we want to change others? We want to help them, of course, but God knows our hearts. Do not try to change people if God let us free. If you try to help someone as you know they are turning in the wrong direction, in this day, they will block you or leave you and they feel you are toxic. They will not listen anyway and they need prayers many times and that is all one can do you are right. People are taught if anyone disagrees with you or your "choices: they are toxic" and not to be bothered about. So only the Lord could set them straight. Only the Lord can help them. but yet they must be willing to turn from the sins once they see they have gone in the wrong direction. We must try, but not in a way that sounds too strong as many cannot handle anyone knowing something they may not be doing right. Not easy, but must just point it out with an example of your own faults perhaps? Showing you know from making mistakes too Sad but true, how we can't be "direct" in our approach if they are family or someone we may want around us in any way at all. Sometimes we must only pray and leave it to the Lord.

All that, with base established, he may have been able to deliver some punishment. Anyone have any more information? I forgot to finish, with a life time of karate training, he still died. The falling away from Christ and God, a falling away from our faith, and following Satan instead, has caused the downfall of humanity. All from the garden of Eden. We are indeed in the end of times.

He says that Solzhenitsyn gave his talk at Harvard "two or three years ago." That famous commencement address happened in 1978, so this must be roughly 1981.

@@OrthodoxWitness Hi, no, I'm afraid the automatic captions are the ones that are still showing, with many errors. When i submitted mine, a message came up saying that they would have to be checked by someone - I assumed that would be you (and the link you provided shows why). If you use KZbin studio, the community captions (rather than automatic captions) would have to be selected. I hope it works because it took me a few days to do! Good talk, though. I thought it was definitely worth making it more accessible.

I like how he says to a question america is no more significant than the spiritual life of Uganda. It is really cool to hear that sober take because so many people think america is the special boy at the end of the world which is a very drunk eschatology. Don’t get me wrong as an American it is only natural to contemplate our role in it all but I just really like how he doesn’t just give in to apocalyptic visions of America only

Hi, everyone. May I ask, is there a text document with the full speech of Fr Seraphim Rose? I mean, the speech to be written down somewhere. Because I'm not a native English speaker and it's a bit hard for me to understand everything when hearing... But if it is written text, I could understand much better. Thanks in advance.

My problem with Amillennialism.. the description that during that reign, if a man died under 100 years old, it would be as if a child had died.. pointing back to the antediluvian times where people lived 700+ years, and that restoring of the earth.. If the millennial reign is to just be a metaphor (which I agree is a beautiful one), would you say these additional descriptions have meaning in your metaphor, or are they abnormally specific vestigial details. In either case, I am satisfied in my God, and like David, I will not be fully satisfied until I awake in His likeness.

I am dead inside. I love noone, nor myself. I believe in nothing, yet I have a fear in me because of that. I am a sinner like no other. adultery, sexual perversion, lies, racism etc. are a part of me and feel like dirt impossible to wash off. I sometimes watch these kind of videos in hopes to learn something or to find some explanation for my questions, but so far nothing clicked in me. I have a contempt for God, I have a contempt for the devil, even though I don´t believe in none of them. Every day I live is a monotonous hell, and the world around me and the people seem to make me feel worse. Father Seraphim Rose had something in his life I don´t. He bouth a pice of land in the Californian wildernes and lived alone in peace. I wish I could do the same. Why am I typing this? I have no idea. If there is a God, I believe I have sinned so much and transgressed so much against him that he couldn´t possibly forgive me any of it.
@danielcarlsen897519 күн бұрын
What you just described is exactly how I feel most of the time as well.. and I’m a christian! I wrestle with my faith quite often and some times wish I was atheist so I could become more worldly and happy as a result. Believe me, I’ve sinned as much as you- WHILE being a so-called christian.. that’s even worse. If he forgives me he can forgive you too. Only thing separating us is what we believe.

1:16:19 - fandom as religious expression, embeds deeper each generation - consider if this is the value of Disney making an endless string of terrible sequels; not to make money, but to keep the mythology of Star Wars linking the generations in order to implant a false reality through a false religion. The spongy human soul internalises it, where the conscious mind may laugh it off as good fun. And like epigenetics, for each generation that expresses the behaviour, the behaviour becomes more like natural.
