All of those people watching and clapping for the kids, momentarily reliving their own childhoods, never knowing that a man in their midst is responsible for it all. Javier is one of the most heroic characters ever written.

Conner Hendrick its hard to top. why did she do drugs? because her parents lead an empty life. they stopped, she stopped. why did the mexicans traffic? because its so damn profitable and easier than working your ass off. what does baseball mean? its a game. a game is a safe place to grow. to develop greatness. to learn. learning is the only drug everyone should take. genius. (although i think in this case also not fully intended as i see it) no offence to heat fans, but i doubt that movie can top it.

I grew up in Tijuana. As a kid, I played in those all dirt fields of the Municipal league. Something about this scene brings tears to my eyes. It pains me when people know more about Tijuana’s murder rate than of its beautiful people and culture. We need heroes in Tijuana; men and women who forsake the almighty dollar and instead dedicate themselves to making our city a wholesome place for our children to live, grow up, and proudly call their home.

I had watched this movie with my father as he was battling leukemia. He too played baseball on those fields, but in Ciudad Juarez. After he saw this, he said that that's what it's all about. For the kids. 'N if he were in such a position as BdT's character, he'd have done the same thing. Everything you said, is exactly how he felt. Gracias.

This is one of the most effective and brilliant closings to a film ever. Throughout the film we see in Javier's eyes pain, fear, torment, and courage. He is fighting an exhausting war against all odds. He sacrifices so much to remain dedicated to the purpose of good. In this scene we finally see him relaxed and at peace with something as innocent and simple as a child's baseball game giving him joy. You can see in this moment Javier seem more alive with the weight of burden off his chest. Del Toro so naturally conveys these emotions.

yes I agree, the angelic sound helps you transcend the moment and let it feel like the entire scene is greater than the sum of its parts. the music assists greatly in the idea that's the director is trying to convey it's a very wise choice and a beautifully written script. it seems so elegant to have ended with the scene that it makes this movie truly excellent. Have faith my friends. My take on this scene is that baseball and the things that come with it (team work, friends, mentors, achievements, work ethic) instills memories that will stay with them all of their lives, some sense of good that they will hold onto and try to emulate in the world despite of how bad the world may get as they grow older. Not all will see it this way and may turn towards the worst, but the ones who do will always appreciate this.

Besides the entire film being brilliant and emotionally exhausting, this is legit my favorite scene in the entire film, and it's the ending. Everything we had witness, for a moment, we couldn't help but to sit back, catch our breath and enjoy watching a friendly kid's baseball game. Besides the song (An Ending) fitting in beautifully with this film. There's something very poetic and surreal about this final scene. Nothing else in the world matters but the parents watching their kids playing a game they love. Nothing else matters to the kids, but them enjoying their childhood. But as reality sets in, and as the kids who are playing get older, some of them may become victims to violence, or may go down a dark path as some of the characters in the film did, and I'm some of us could relate to it, or has witness friends or relatives how have gone down a dark path and probably never came back. Or some of the kids may go on a straight path and have a decent life. But all that matters at that moment is playing their friends and enjoying life as they can. This film is already 20 years old, and it's still as riveting as was when it first came out.

Man this is such a powerful scene. I think its because Javier is a righteous man who has seen so much evil in his life. He could easily have become corrupted by the wickedness surrounding him on a daily basis but instead he held his integrity and in the end his goodness won out. He was a protector of people and in particular a protector of children, he saw their innocence and wanted to allow children to be children and not have to worry about the evil that exists in this world.

This movie, on its own, is a solid 9/10. It was a wonderful tale of hapless people caught in a web of drugs, lies, and loss. But it was also a story of hope, and of redemption. When this ending came around, and when I realized what I was seeing, I couldn't help but sit in awe, with tears streaking down my face, watching a marvelous, fantastic scene unfolding before my very eyes. In the end, we want to build a better world for our kids, our progeny. They can do better than us, they can right our wrongs. They can write new chapters in our world's history. And it all starts from a solid, fulfilling, and endearing childhood. This is what Javier Rodriguez sought to provide for the children in his part of the world. A tiny contribution, a small price to pay, to open new doors for others to enter.

Mesmerizing after all these years. Somehow the beauty and freedom of outright joy of simply play takes us to a level of truth. Somehow Benicio del Torro amidst the whistles and claps of HIS creation, clasps his hands in benediction to goodness and care for others. Its interesting that the other drug movie that Del Torro is in also ends in a scene with young elementary school age children playing sports. The idea I think is that organized childrens sports is one of the safest venues where nothing bad happens. At the end of this movie this is Del Torro's comfort, a way to escape the evil all around him. At the end of Sicaro we see that safe space again, but just when we think we've found a peaceful ending and a place of peace, it is violated. My take is that in Sicario we realize that as bad as the situations we're in the movie traffic, which was made in 2001, things are actually a million times worse than they thought and for some its unescapable.

I think we all have beautiful memories from childhood. And those memories tend to be similar for all of us. Like this scene. It would be nice if one day we stopped "growing up" into the material world, and we fought for that beautiful thing we all remember from when we were kids.
