Black skin racism is not a thing in Malaysia. We even have dark skin tone people here in Malaysia. The stare is usually because certain African people tend to mingle and socialise among themselves, when they do they usually talk with loud voice. Malaysian do not hate skin colour, they hate crime and rude behaviour. I used to live in apartment area in Puchong.This area are area where many African people get together for drinking. They always arrived in group to drink at small pub there which opened from dusk past midnight up till wee hour in the morning. There always a fight broke out when they get drunk. Men and women, with loud voice. You will see bloody scene and police will come. Everyday. Not an exaggeration. As resident there, I move out after 3 month. No more sleepless night. Thats only small cases of what actually caused them viewed negatively by locals.

Thats right! Malaysians has no issues on skin color but rudeness when they are drunk is a big no-no!. Recently there was an african-american man who got drunk and hit an old chinese man just because the african man doesnt want to pay for the food he ate at the old mans restaurant. So foreigners who comes to Malaysia I advise you if you want to drink, make sure you dont get drunk and do any crime here. In the case mentioned here, I am guessing the grab driver had experienced taking african customers who ended up running away and not paying when they reach their destination or worse yet, he got robbed by his african customers.

It's expensive because some of the raw materials are imported, since they are not grown locally. Higher price also equal higher sin tax, which helps our government fund better community projects.

Regarding the racism that the black girl receiving, there are back story about African (Not that I know if she is from Africa or not but the back story is regarding Black African). This is actually not about skin colour at all. So this is something that started around 20 years ago and it continues for years. Back in the day, Malaysia had just started to actively sought international students intake especially in private colleges. At the time, a lot of new private universities being opened and they need student to survive. So they just accepted anyone. Long story short, during those times and continue for decades, African students are mostly known (Not all) for abusing their student visa. They rented apartments and condos. But instead of actually studying, they do some shady business. And crime rates in the area involving African increased and this create tension with the local. Im just assuming here but when she said she never tried nasi lemak and she and her friends got stare from people, I think she doesn't really mingle with the local. I have a lot of African friends during my uni time (10 years ago) and at works. I can definitely say nobody is actually stare at them. Probably because they mingle with the local and adapt to the local culture.

Yeah... this is somewhat true IMHO. You can't find that many people of African origin in Malaysia. Just like there are not many Mat Salleh many decades ago, they are treated like aliens. It's not about the skin color, no, not at all. Furthermore, many Africans when they were here, many of them do not respect the local culture. They are more famous for scammers and black money. Anyhow, racist people do exist anywhere in the world. I've experienced it myself when traveling overseas, even traveling locally.

well, as a Malaysian, from our perspectives it's not all about the skin colour, I think maybe it's more about a stigma and generalization, not too long ago we have many Africans causing some problems within this country, and as an effect we did what humans do, we generalize and we try to avoid them even though we realized that's cannot be the same for all of them, I've alot of black friends but still I'll avoid any Africans that I don't personally know.

1. As much as I feel sympathy for the young girl, but the stereotype look she had during her stay is nothing to do with her skin colour. Malaysians have had bad experiences with African communities in KL. They were known to show bad attitude such as being disrespectful to the locals, getting drunk and loud in open areas at night, rudeness, money scamming etc. This is a fact as it was covered in social media and mainstream news in Malaysia. 2. As for Denmark couple, do your homework before travelling!

Yes, that's the reality with African migrants in malaysia. My friend has a restaurant and next to his restaurant is an African restaurant. My friend told me that most nights Africans who came to the restaurant next to his would get drunk and fight amongst each other, create havoc, vandalism in the area, throwing things randomly.

If you want to just party and have fun all the time, Malaysia is not suitable for you. Thailand is your best choice. But for me, I love Malaysia because the balance of life is really great. A lot of things to do. Affordable living. Super delicious food. Friendly people. Beautiful scenery wherever you go. Calm. Complete infrastructure.

The government should really solve this issue by deflating the currency ever so slightly and maximising exports, creating new job opportunities, and increasing minimum wages slightly and making it stricter towards employers to pay employees accordingly. Amongst a lot of other things that could be done to improve the economy these few step would barely scratch the surface. Your ability to cope in this country all while appreciating it is admirable.

@@GoatofGods Yes. Prices for goods and services has gone up drastically especially food products. It is something out of ordinary people control. However, we can control our daily spending by substituting expensive stuff with cheaper ones & having fun through cheaper alternatives and dping occasionally instead of all the time to reduce the cost. Living a basic life is actually not very expensive compared to always having luxury goods & services (having all kinds of monthly subsciption payment for entertainment or possessing luxury expensive goods in order to look cool in front of others). This is the problem with majority of people in this age. Worry too much of looking uncool and too much partying.

From what I observed of African women staying in Malaysia( from their youtube channel) , They seems to have higher expection . For example an African was pissed off and calling the Malaysian Police, Immigration and airline staff as RACIST just because she could not fly to Indonesia ( Indonesian immigration require her to have visa ) . The way they talk , demanding things and in very loud voice are offensive to Malaysians. Most Malaysians are soft spoken and do not demand .( cultural difference issue. ) The lady in the video has wrong perception about Malaysians. There is no skin colour discrimination in Malaysia .There are a lot of Malaysians( especially the Orang Asli) having darker skin and curlier hair than her.

I have only a few words to say to those adventurous Danish couple, PLEASE PLEASE DON'T COME BACK TO MALAYSIA...EVER!! Go to Thailand or anywhere else for your adventures. Criticism is welcomed but only if it's constructive and fair. As for the nice black young lady, I'm sorry you felt victimised for your skin colour but know that we're not against blacks or whatever your skin colour. We're pretty cool as long as you show respect & try to mingle with the locals. Unfortunately we've had too many unpleasant experiences with the blacks from Nigeria who came here as students & stayed on as illegal immigrants. They weren't nice at all, did a lot of nasty things here and were openly aggressive towards the locals. Hope you have a better experience elsewhere the next time.

For me I guess it depends on what they (tourist) like / prefer. If they like hustle and bustle I guess Malaysia not the place. Malaysia are laid back country (except KL) suitable for those who likes relax & slow travelling.. 🌿Malaysia is green country less pollution every where u walk there’s always trees, plants and public garden.. 🙋🏼‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️for those whom appreciate diversity, multiculturalism & like witnessing how peaceful & harmony Malaysian people, then they could consider Malaysia. Major races in Malaysia ie Malay, Chinese, Indian, Borneo-ian, Portuguese, Org Asli & other races, we could sit in one table having each other cuisine without hesitation, respecting each other’s cultures & religion, as we Malaysia is truly Asia.. 🍛🥟Plus if they looking for food variety then Malaysia is the place, Malaysia has strong food cultures. ⛩🕌💒🏙 If they looking for UNESCO heritage or great modern architecture then Malaysia is the place ~ You can say Malaysia is the place where “EAST MEET WEST” it sit next to each other, where old British colonial buildings built many yrs ago standing proudly next to modern buildings. If the tourist like tall/ giant building then Malaysia has it all - we have Iconic landmark such as KLCC (world tallest twin tower) , PNB 118 (world second highest building), KL Tower (7th world tallest), one of highest mountain (mount Kinabalu) F1 track, reserved rainforest/ Unesco national park, mosque, temple, best shopping malls, famous for its stunning coastal areas and many more. 🤷🏼🤷🏼‍♂️ Well again it depends on what the tourist wants. We cannot expect night life in North Pole or looking for Chinese food in Kenya. Do we? If the tourist making wrong choices and said “ohh that country is boring” or “I won’t come again to that country” ...I guess they gotta do research before coming over to any country as I believe every country has different charm to offer. Its my second time I Am in Malaysia Kuala Lumpur. I have also been to Bangkok for one month. The two Citys are oppositie of each other ,. Bangkok is like the sister that is adventures naughty outgoing in your face ,hectic . Kuala Lumpur is the quit reserved ,well behaved ,following the rules sister. For me although i like Bangkok i prefer Kuala Lumpur because it is cleaner,Lush,better air quality ,more variation of Food different cultures living together,less hectic.

I am not saying this because I an a racist . or out of malice but I have seen that most most blacks, mainly from Africa , don't really want to get to know locals . They usually congregate by themselves . I once saw a group of Africans who stay in a condo near Batu Caves and said hello to them but they just looked at me and continued speaking among themselves in their own language . As for the Danish couple, they need to do their homework before booking their stay and also draw up an itinerary that covers all the popular tourist locations in the city before coming for their visit. Hope they'll be better prepared next time. As for the student, it's just sad to hear about how she felt she was mistreated here in Malaysia, but there is more to the issue than meets the eye. Malaysian are generally not rac%st, let's just say there were a lot of unpleasant things that the African community had done here in Malaysia that the locals are not particularly pleased about, hence she was looked at in a strange and maybe disrespectful manner. Hope she'll overcome her challenges when she comes back to Malaysia to complete her studies though. Take care Chai, hope to see you back in Malaysia soon! 😄✌️

Chai ,Always welcome back. We never racist to any black peoples, we hv lot of indian , pakistan and Bangladesh friends too. My best neighbor is indian. But as our experience some of black African they really damage the whole house or never pay rental and runaway. And when local girl go nearby, they sometimes shouted the girl, we experienced at Kepong area. Sometimes we feel scare of their attitude. But some black African is really kind too. Be kind to Malaysian, we will respect all foreign friends ( just like our close friends or relatives) Local people always just want to protect themselves and their families.

One thing I really don't understand about tourists, not so much from travellers, is to compare one place with another, one country, one city, one town, one village with another. Every place has its own vibe, charm n beauty. Every place has something to offer. Some people like touristy things, some people like less touristy things. I've read lots of positive n good comments about Malaysia from people around d world. But I also come across few hatred comments, namely from Indonesia n d Philippines, I'm not sure what r their concerns n problems. D southeast asian region is one of d most popular region for tourists, travellers, expat, digital nomad n students. There r plenty to choose, that's d beauty. Everyone has their own experience from their explorations n adventures. D tourism industry is now back to life after d long pandemic n lockdown. C'est la vie.

Interesting video mate. I was last in KL about 14 years ago. It was the first South East Asian country I visited. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and friendliness of the locals. I'm hoping to return at the end of this year. There's an old acronym YMMV, your mileage may vary meaning you might have different experiences. That's exactly the case with me. I recently went from super friendly Phillippnes and stopped in Thailand for 2 weeks. I found local Thais to be down right impatient and often got shouted out when I didn't understand them the first time. I found that very sad cos I'd heard Thais are very friendly. So my experience was the opposite of the Danish couple. If you met me at BKK airport I probably wouldn't have been complimentary about Thailand.

For me Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur or Cameron Highlands are too touristy. The real Malaysia are the small towns , villages and the rainforest. There are waterfalls and lakes deep in the rainforest which I don't think any tourist would have set their eyes upon, even the majority of Malaysians wouldn't know these places exist. Have anyone been to Simunjan, Sarawak waterfall?

Racist? No..we not hate them but we avoid them. I can see every month police, immigration etc come to apartment in Puchong because certain of them make trouble, selling drugs, scamming local girl to do drug smuggling. You can Google murder case in cyberjaya which include African people. Now we also have trouble with rohingya refugee from Myanmar. We Malaysian loving people but we don't like if certain people come and make trouble.

I am from Malaysia. If you are for partying and casual clothing, go to Thailand. If you are for nature, beaches, both Malaysia and Thailand have plentiful to offer. As for food, plentiful of choices in Malaysia but also not lacking in Thailand. All depend on your taste buds and personal choices like vegetarian, certain prohibition on certain meat etc.

Not just in Malaysia. You'll feel the same if you're going to other non black countries.. Let say Uganda or Nigeria or Zimbabwe are the 'middle or high income' countries. Then imagine people from 'low income' countries like Malaysia or Singapore or Brunei go to those African countries. The black Africans would give the same treatments too. No such thing as racism. People reacted to stigma and the uncommon.

Malaysia is definitely not Thailand and not trying to be Thailand. In fact for that same reason I like Malaysia especially if I have a family to bring them up in. It would either be Malaysia or Singapore. Thailand brings an altogether very different vibes. To be sure I like Thailand too but have also felt that they both are unique, have their place and cater to different strokes. I sincerely hope Malaysia will not just be another Thailand and Thailand not be like Malaysia 😂 In terms of cleanliness of a city, there are many considerations - for a city the size of all of KL, its surprisingly clean. Singapore is a city state with no land borders and accessible only via a bridge from Johor and various sea and air ports. It’s relatively easy to manage and already developed. Malaysia has many more constructions going on esp in KL with imported labours. It also sees an increasing influx of tourists every year. Notwithstanding all that I would agree that there is always an opportunity to improve the city in many ways including the overall cleanliness of the place. Just as a side note, New York is certainly not a clean city. In fact its a common sight to see rubbish strewn everywhere. I remember going to central station one night and was shocked to see the streets at night full of litter everywhere you look.

Expecting everyone to enjoy a particular place at all times or all the time is illogical. Even if you ask certain Malaysians, like me for example, you will also hear some negative remarks. Thus, it's okay to be aware of some of its drawbacks because at least now we know where we may make improvements. I appreciate you so much for creating informative vlogs about our country. It's a pretty effective technique to promote for our country to the world, especially to inform potential tourists about Malaysia's positives and negatives in case they decide to come here. Malaysians, in my opinion, are pleased to welcome tourists to our country and to hold them up to scrutiny whenever they come. The Danish couple is strange, they said bukit bintang is quiet and boring. First time I heard that. Chinatown is busy and vibrant compared to bukit bintang? I sense this couple like crowds a lot. Might as well stay in Jakarta. Myself I like peace and quiet. In fact my greatest period to visit kl is hariraya day 1 and 2. Perfect for me. I can drive from klang to pudu in 20 minutes flat.

@@keangwooichoo6138 - Indeed, it is true that beer and other alcoholic beverages are solely prohibited for local Muslims, but non-Muslims, particularly visitors, are not subject to this restriction as long as they do not do harm to others when intoxicated. The only drawback is that beer is more expensive here than in other countries especially compared to Denmark. In fact, beer is provided everywhere along Jalan Alor and Changkat Bukit Bintang for people to consume if they so like, but they must be willing to pay with higher prices.

You are the one need to blend in. and to those that say we can't buy alchohol in langkawi... hahaha really? since when? further more before you come to any country, study it thoroughly. don't blame the country's because the law had been there long before you ever born and step on its soil. Malaysia is dominated by muslim and Islam is the main religion, of cause they don't simply sell alchohol to public but it does not mean you can't buy it at a proper place. and don't ever think that you can drink and be drunk like you are in britain or any western country. Your culture will not mind it, malaysian in general do mind it.

Everybody has some degree of racism within them. However a pathological racist person show these signs: 1. They make everything about their skin colour or race and dismiss possibility of other things. 2. Play the race-card to gain attention 3. Think that only their live matters (or of more importance compared to others) to the extent of shouting it to the rest of the world. Malaysians had bad experience with certain group of people from a certain continent (very loud, get drunk in public, molesting ladies, criminal activities while using student/tourist visa) back in the earlier 21st century. I don't blame them for being cautious towards them. One important tip is Malaysians are shy, reserved, quiet, respectable and humble people. Generally they dislike people being loud in public and they respect other people's privacy hence not smiling or approaching strangers unnecessarily. Really enjoyed all your interviews Chai. there are many more places that are hidden gem in Malaysia that not many tourists from the West and Europe know about it.. such as the world class islands and beaches in Sabah in east Malaysia, this place is only famous for tourists from korea, japan and china.. what is problem is that malaysia divided into two part, part west and east, when traveling to the east part tourists have to buy more ticket to go to east malaysia this will cause the cost increase, that why not so many youtuber can afford it to make content about beautiful place in east Malaysia.. they only know about kuala lumpur and penang 😂 even though malaysia offers ton interesting places to visit

Abt the grab situation, some grab drivers avoid ppl contact cuz theyre busy, trust me, when the person who order the food meet the grab driver, cuz they'll have a conversation, this will drag his time to deliver other foods, remember you're not the only who want foods

You need more time to know Malaysia better. Malaysia is not only KL or Langkawi. Regarding cleanliness, it takes time to educate netizens. It must be started from youngsters therefore it will take years to improve in that area. Singapore may be one of the cleaners country but they successfully did that via very strict rules and regulations whereby here, we have rules but never implemented strictly!!

Its unfortunate the Danish couple short stay is full of displeasure or not as expected. I think such short stay is just not enough to explore or learn abt the country, moreover when you hv no friends to help you. Many Malaysians will be happy if they keep going to Thailand.

Its funny, playing victim due the skin colour? Malaysians have varieties of skin colours, Indians mostly darker skin and many Malays have dark complexion, orang Asal (aborigines) etc. When some Africans don't get their way, they usually playing victim as racism. I still remember one African youtuber came to Malaysia but had problem depart to Indonesia due to no visa in advance, she accused the immigration officer is racist. Mind boggling! We have many African students (genuine using their studying visa) are adapting well in Malaysia, even worked in Malaysian afterwards and some married with locals. Malaysians always welcoming all people around the world to work, study and live here, but once you disturbing locals, creating problems (crime, scamming, etc) you'll be not trusted, but hey, everybody is different and you cannot expect you'll be getting same treatment from everybody everywhere you go or anywhere you live. Just be yourself, kind and smile!

@@Chai_Travel I think you misunderstood me. It is called 'inferiority complex'. Being different in a foreign country it's happens to most of us. I've been living abroad nearly 20 years in the west (Europe) since I was a student, and I get used to with the racist remarks (verbal, action and indirect racist treatment) but I never blame them and playing victim. Its nothing about your skin colour being black, brown or yellow, or your eyes shape etc. It just because is being different than majority. The only way is trying to be friendly with locals, knowing them, mingling with them and eventually they will accept you and treat you as one of them without seeing your differences!

I am from Singapore and so I am free to comment honestly about Thailand and Malaysia. Since your channel is based in Thailand, you will not say anything bad about Thailand. The topic is cleanliness. Singapore is clean because of the strict rules and there are surveillance cameras everywhere. In Singapore, I am restricted to follow the rules and so when I am walking on the street in Singapore, I must ensure that I do not drop a piece of paper accidentally or I will get fined. When I cross over to Johor Bahru in Malaysia, I feel so free from this restriction and I don't have to worry about dropping off a piece of paper and I can throw a durian seed on the street but overall Malaysia's garbage is well maintained. It is only that the garbage in Malaysia will be cleared later as compared to Singapore where the garbage is cleared everyday. Then when I cross over to Bangkok, the city is much bigger than KL and so there are more piles of garbage on the street. One biggest problem in Bangkok is the air pollution due to the extensive use of diesel in boats and vehicles and due to the pm 2.5 particles from the burning of crops. The situation is so bad now and Bangkok is now one of the most polluted cities in the world to live in and I am sure Thailand lovers will try to avoid this air pollution topic.
