I am loving this series. I am 70 years old. I was baptisted a Southern Baptist, reared a Methodist and converted to Lutheranism as young adult. I fell in love with Lutheranism because of its litergy, its written thought-out theology and its weekly ties to the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed. Similarly, over time, I have become more and more interested in the Orthodox Church. Among other things I took a year long course on the history of the Christian Church which answered many questions. Your series exemplifies the clarity of theological thought I expected from the Orthodox Church.

Just a correction: actually the Jews and Judaism proves the view of the Orthodox church, since Judaism is a religion and you can become a full Jew just by conversion, and the religion is also passed from the mother, therefore Jews today are not all descendants of Abraham, but have different Y DNA

Veneration of the Saints via icons, relics etc. is really best seen as paying honour to the Father, Son & Holy Spirit through honouring what they have done in the Saint in question, i.e. honouring the grace that they demonstrated. The idea that they are worshiped like an idol is often put about by low church evangelicals based on ignorance of what the actual teachings of the church are. I'm sure some simple folk may actually treat them like idols but that's not what the church teaches

I'm somewhat confused by your data at 23:56. The Septuagint O.T.in the Orthodox Study Bible reads," you shall not allow the salt of The Lord's Covenant to be lacking from your grain offering!" this is actually Leviticus 2:13 and not 18:9 by the way! Please help understand the point you are trying to make. Are you saying that the Dispensers should've included such a thing as a Salt Covenant in their cursory understanding of Theology that led to the conclusions they arrived at? Or simply, Why not? Hehe!!

"Salt" = ppl being present (not just here present) told by Jesus - NT. You are the salt of the earth .. & if the salt looses it's savor ... ( right communication/teachings/etc - ..of what use is it ..). Think literal salt having taste/savor that is a preservative, removes some things in foods & makes for body to use better, & it helping the functioning of physical/mental/etc is to be understood spiritually as well.

My understanding is that Sinai and Horeb refer to the same location, the site of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments from God. That said, Having been raised Protestant, yet a serious Bible student, I see many inconsistencies in the dispensationalist outline as you present it. It’s kind of disturbing! It makes me realize that there is only scattered coherence with scripture, yet how much of this teaching is ingrained in Protestant tradition and current instruction in Protestant churches all over America! I think the Orthodox view of the simplicity of two covenants aligns better with scripture.

Jeremiah 31 is speaking of Judah and Israel. I have always thought this to be the country of Judea and the country of Israel because at the time it was professed out of the mouth of Jeremiah the country of Judea still existed and the country of Israel was in very recent memory. Moreover Jesus lived in Nazareth which was in the Old Kingdom of Israel and died in Jerusalem the New Kingdom of Judea. it makes sense that Jesus said he came for the Lost sheep of Israel where he lived in old Israel and was crucified in new Judea. The Last Supper took place in Judea and so the New Covenant was established as the Apostolic church has always professed. Why can't Protestants see this?
@jasonmatthews7829
@jasonmatthews7829 Жыл бұрын
Why can't Protestants see what? You would be hard-pressed to find any Protestant denomination that disagrees with either the point you made or the fact that Jesus established a New Covenant while fulfilling the old. Protestants don't disagree with that. They exist in various denominations as a rejection of Papal authority, and to a certain extent in defiance as well of the authority believed inherent in the established offices of heads of the Orthodoxies as well. It's not a difference of doctrinal interpretation outside of the establishment and expected obeiscance to that authority.

Just one comment re the requirements for becoming Jewish. One is simply having a Jewish mother -- thats it. Circumcision is extremely important and customary yet it doesn't bestow Jewish identity. The other (far less common) is conversion in which circumcision is mandatory for men. Great series btw just had to chime in re Jewish identity.

"To claim that Ishmael is Israel is simply outrageous and utterly reckless and for a priest simply unforgivable!!!!!!!! Ishmael, the whole world understands to represent the Arab nations! " Paul says the opposite of what you said. "For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar" (Gal.4:24). Did all the Arab nations get a covenant with God at "Mt Sinai"? There is only one people who received a covenant with God on Mt. Sinai, and that was the Israelites. Yet Paul says, right here, that the descendants of that covenant are Hagar, the illegitimate son of Abraham, whom he sent away. Paul goes on to say "Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise." The "we" there, whom Paul calls "Isaac" - Abraham's legitimate son - are Christians. That's what the biblical text says. What about this passage of Word of God do find "simply outrageous and utterly reckless" and "simply unforgivable!!!!!!!!"?

Why was Abraham born on the 1948th year of the Hebrew calendar in the Torah, Foreshadowing 1948 on the Christian calendar. Then blood moons happened in our first Passover back in the land, and other Hebrew feast days and also the same year on the 1st day of Passover and Feast of Tabernacle in 1967, the famous 6 day war, 7th day victory. Ahh, replacement theology. How blasphemous. Romans 11:1-2 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? Interesting you read the same chapter but skipped the first 2 verses.

Blasphemy is when a person attributes to the devil the works of God. One can blaspheme Christ and be forgiven, but one can't blaspheme the Holy Spirit and be forgiven. God doesn't forget Jews; any of them who wants to trust in Him as the Messiah promised in the OT is welcome to.

Paul was merely saying that he, a Jew was not forsaken by God. The elect weren’t, the rest were blinded. Lol how do you take Roman’s so out of context ? ”For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”“ ‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭25‬-‭27‬ ‭How do you miss the whole point of Roman’s ? Paul is very much emphasizing that Gods covenant with Israel is ever lasting and they WILL be grafted in and saved you don’t have to be a dispensationalist (which I’m not ) to see you literally just have to read the The scriptures… Zachariah who you quoted speaks about the exact same thing 🤦🏾‍♂️ I’m leaning to orthodoxy as I’m close to leaving Protestantism but the lack of knowledge of the end times from y’all is crazy lol and like y’all mentioned in the beginning of these series you don’t do enough studying, which can be seen unfortunately.

According to Romans, God does indeed say the Israel will be grafted back in. That means they are currently "broken off." They are not saved by their DNA. If and when they become "grafted back in," that means they will become Christians, just like every other ethnic group. Their genetic code never saved them. If Paul thought that the Jews were already saved by their DNA, as the dispensationalists believe, then why did he bother trying to convert them to Christ?

The Church did not replace Israel. That re-placement theology is heretical. Gentiles are grafted into the olive tree which is Israel. Jesus said, “Salvation is of the Jews.” The same Paul who spoke of the heavenly Jerusalem, acknowledged the earthly Jerusalem. So did Jesus, referring to it as the City of the Great King. Jesus will return to this Jerusalem. Actually, Paul’s reference to the heavenly Jerusalem has been taught by the rabbis down through the ages. Jesus spoke of the end times saying, “ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:24). This occurred in 1967. The prophets all spoke of the Jews being restored to the land in the last days. These words remain in tact even with the new covenant. God promised Abraham that his physical seed would live in this land, which by the way, is not a “Palestinian covenant.” This land was restored, just as the prophets said. Isaiah and Jeremiah both prophesied that the Jews would be gathered from the north and from all the lands to which they had been scattered. This same Paul wrote of the physical seed of Hebrew people saying God was not done with them. “ I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew” (Romans 11:1,2a). Paul also wrote in Romans 11 that the Jews would be grafted back in and that all of Israel would be saved. When I lived in Israel, I could count the Messianic Jews on one hand. Today, there are approximately 10,000 Israelis who believe Yeshua is the Messiah.

Only dispensationalists use “replacement theology.” Using that shows you have no understanding of the new covenant. The church, when it was founded, was made up of Jews. How could Jews replace Jews? In order for something to replace something else it must be different. All who are in Christ are of the promise.
