The thing about Ocelot's arm was clarified in the official MGS4 Database app that was released on PS3 way back when. In one entry it specifically says that Ocelot removed Liquid's arm between MGS2 and 4 and got a cybernetic one instead. To me, this makes the most sense. The plan to fool the Patriots by pretending to be possessed by a ghost would be patently ridiculous and entirely unbelievable to anyone unless such a thing is actually possible. And people with ESP abilities like Mantis or the Sorrow are absolutely real in the world of MGS. So it makes sense that there is a precedent for MGS2 to actually have been Liquid's spirit, and this is how Ocelot got the idea to use this to his advantage to fool the Patriots and pretend it's still happening while secretly having disposed of Liquid's arm and instead using hypnosis/nanomachine shenanigans to play the part. This would also explain why we heard Liquid's voice in 2 but not in 4 (albeit not so much for the Jpn. version where they used Liquid's VA due to Ocelot's actor passing away). I also like to think that Liquid possessing Ocelot was possible due to Ocelot having some latent ESP powers inherited from The Sorrow.
@GoldenLeafsMovies3 ай бұрын
@@Tetsujin_MK I thought it was just different art direction/the arm got old and the skin coloring wore out.
@SMZC3 ай бұрын
I don't like that idea at all. That would mean that Liquid actually came back for real in MGS2 and then "died" dishonorably off-screen by having Ocelot remove his arm. It's unnecessary, too, because if Ocelot's plan involves turning himself into a wild card and allowing a version of Liquid to challenge the Patriots, then whether this Liquid is a ghost or a product of hypnosis makes no difference. He could have just as easily left Liquid's ghost inside of him, and the end result would have been the same. It feels silly for the same dead character to come back in two different and unrelated ways. The issue is messy either way. I consider MGS4's Liquid a retcon of what was intended in MGS2, because MGS4 really goes out of its way to explain the seemingly supernatural with materialist explanations. But if we go by what MGS4 has established, I'd much rather think of Liquid at the end of MGS2 as the first manifestations of Ocelot's plan rather than Liquid actually coming back to life never to be seen again.
@Nexdex3 ай бұрын
@@SMZC Ocelot using hypnosis would mean he would have a degree of control over what "Liquid" will do whereas that wouldn't be the case if he just let the real Liquid do his thing. There is no guarantee that real Liquid would've acted according to plan whereas a hypnosis induced version of him could potentially be steered towards Ocelot's true goals. That's how I see it.
@SMZC3 ай бұрын
@@Nexdex On paper, perhaps so, but Liquid almost killed Snake at Shadow Moses with Outer Haven. Liquid had no way of knowing that Raiden would intervene, which was the only reason Snake managed to live to upload the virus. But then again, this could just be bad writing, as the Liquid doppelganger itself admits that he wanted Snake to succeed.
@ZayIvory73 ай бұрын
@@SMZC Liquid didn't want Snake to succeed necessarily, he just wanted thing to end up the way it did I.E the system destroyed. The reason Liquid was fine with killing Snake is because he was going to destroy the system himself. Liquid would hijack the system, destroy it/ or control it, or Snake would destroy it. Either way he gets what he wanted, the only difference is who is victorious in doing so. So there is an interest in Liquid winning, because then he can do it on his own terms and whichever direction he wanted to take it. And yeah Liquid actually did possess Ocelot in MGS2, but the arm was replaced afterwards. Personally, I like to think Liquid gave Ocelot the plan to begin with. Liquid probably knew he wouldn't last attached to Ocelot forever and so suggested to use him as an avatar of war against the Patriots. He did say he "chose" Ocelot as a host in MGS2 after all.

Ocelot's goal was always to free Big Boss: his loyalty was towards him. He sacrificed all for that and if you replay Mgs2 and Mgs4 you'd see it. Look for example how sad he is when he have to kill his friend Gurlokovic to keep being an agent of the patriots. Then in Mgs4 when you meet him for the first time he was acting, switching to liquid snake when he take off the glasses. But the most sad moment is on the Volga river, when at the end of the scene he wears back his glasses and is clearly sad after the acting. He had to pretend to be liquid in Mgs2 to act differently from Patriots' plan when they needed him; in Mgs4, where Patriots have a whole army and don't need him anymore, he pretends to be liquid to force snake to go on with his plan. But as you sometimes pointed out, you can still notice he acts as ocelot too (like when he trolls you for the fun ahah something liquid, a proud warrior, would never do) or when he smokes a cigar (ocelot always tried to copy Big Boss, while liquid hated him). Also, in Mgs4 he doesn't even have liquid's arm anymore, but a bio one. And let's be honest, if it was liquid all along, he would have killed snake in Mgs2 finale or all along Mgs4 😂 So congratulations Ocelot for being the best double crosser to free your beloved big boss ❤

I'm really sad that there's no more Solid Snake storyline. 😢 And I can't believe your VM crashed because Ocelot punched you too hard! If you pressed select at any point, you could see the controls, including some extra combos you missed during the Ocelot fight, but hey, you still nailed it! You'll probably enjoy Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but just keep in mind that it's a spin-off. You might find connections to the main series, but it's not a Kojima game. The title Revengeance actually comes from the fact that the original Metal Gear Solid Rising project by Kojima Productions didn’t work out, so they passed it to PlatinumGames, who decided to take it in their own direction. Kojima wanted to explore Raiden's origins, and there are some pretty dark details about that online-maybe something to look into after you're done with the series. PlatinumGames chose to continue after MGS4, creating their own narrative. At the end of your video, you mentioned that you like stories where you can guess what’s happening, but still get surprised by plot twists that make sense. There's a game that might be right up your alley-Heavy Rain on the PS3. You control multiple characters, and they can all die, potentially leaving the mystery unsolved. It has 88 possible endings, if I remember correctly. I'm looking forward to your Peace Walker and V playthroughs, but I have to admit they’re not my favorites-they focus more on grinding than storytelling. Personally, I liked Portable Ops more; it gave me those emotional moments that I love in games. I truly believe Portable Ops delivers on that front better than Peace Walker, Rising, or V. I hope I'm not being too repetitive, but before you dive into Peace Walker and V, I recommend reading the recaps of MG1 and MG2 from the menu of MGS1 NOT ONLINE. You’ll need that background for the upcoming games. Also, I still dream of the day you react to the MGS3 Secret Theatre. If I had to choose between you playing any more MGS games or reacting to the Secret Theatre, I'd pick the latter. It’s *that* good! Thank you, Whimsy, for this incredible experience. You're the first Let's Play KZbinr that I’ve truly followed, and our brains seem to work in such a similar way that it feels like I’m playing these games with a good friend-even if it is a bit one-sided. 😂 See you around on KZbin!

It was nice you include the whole final fight. Some channels are freaking paranoid about Snake Eater copyright. I personally think it is not a problem as lobg as you keep speaking.
@WhimsyPsyche3 ай бұрын
You're welcome! It is indeed a problem, and I did get a copyright. I'm still not earning any money from this video yet. But having played MGS 3 where I also got a copyright claim from the same song, I know that claim is fraudulent. The person claiming doesn't own the rights to this song, and I won the previous dispute, so chances are I'll win this one again, and I'll start earning on the video again in 30 days. Hope this makes sense! Speaking changes nothing unfortunately. EDIT: So I don't blame any channel for muting or deciding not to dispute. It's a gamble every time, 30 days of dispute + another 30 days before what you're owed is processed, so it's often over 2 months without getting paid for that specific video. Depends on the creator if they want to go through that or not!

Fun fact: In the Psycho Mantis cinematic there are 2 versions depending on which controller you are using at the time, if you use the PS3 Fat controller Psycho Mantis will suffer from the controller not having vibration, this as a mockery because the first controllers (Sixaxis) did not have the vibration motor, however, if you use a DualShock3 controller from later versions (PS3 Slim or Super Slim) you will be able to appreciate the cinematic that appeared to Whymsy.

Great review. I've said it a million times. The problem with this game is the too little gameplay, not the long cutscenes. To conclude this convoluted series in a satisfying way and not mess it up like other series like Game of Thrones or Star wars, the long cutscenes were needed. Even with the long cutscenes fans to this day wish there were more games and time to spend with their favorite characters.
@The810kid3 ай бұрын
I think the first two acts were perfect. If all 5 acts were like those I feel the criticism of not enough gameplay would be as common. Act 3 was fine but not everyone liked the tailing mission. Act 4 doesn't have enough human sentrys and sneaking around all the machines aren't as fun, and Act 5 is simply top short.

There is acting, emotions, thoughts, subtle hints, expressions being conveyed, humor and a lot of things that set this series apart from other media, even fans today wish they had more time with these characters. The game is short, wanting to cut it shorter instead of adding more gameplay doesn't make sense to me. The fans pressured Kojima into making 2 full games with BB after this one. Otacon’s line of, “Snake…..had a hard life” hits hard. You really gave all your emotion to this series, I mean the tears started during the microwave corridor!! So a break is much needed. I have such a love/hate with GOTP but Act 4 really works for me. Not sure if you caught the flashback when you tilt the camera over snake he comments “Overhead view! Just like old times!” and if you kill a lot of enemies in quick succession a voice clip of Liquid from MGS1 saying, “Because you enjoy the killing, that’s why!” and then Snake throws up!! Also! Johnny is in MGS 2, audio only, and his Father in MGS3!

What an amazing playthrough Whimsy. Congrats ♥ ♥ ♥. Wanted to clarify a couple of points for you which are not spoilers. - MGS Saga belongs to a genre called Magical Realism where it is set in a realistic setting with magic and supernatural touches. - Liquid Oceltot arm was transplanted between MGS2 and MGS 4 because with his old arm, Liquid 's soul possesd his body due to him acting as a medium (remember that Ocelot was The Sorrow' s son). This was explained in MGS 4 Database which was basically an encyclopedia of the saga launched in 2008. - EVA did know that it was not Big Boss body. But she was so affected mentally by everything that happened that she threw herself to the body believing it was Big Boss. - Big Boss was kept in a coma after hi is fight with Solid Snake in MG2 Solid Snake. So his lock was released when JD was destroyed. He regained consciousness and EVA reconstructed him with parts of liquid and solidus. - Raiden is not a human anymore, he is still a Cyborg. But they replaced his body with human-like parts.

"Snake.. had a hard life. He needs some time to rest." The first time i heard Otacon say that line it made me ball. Still makes me cry. He had a harder life than anyone else, and he met every moment if it willingly, stoic and present. It hits so hard then when Big Boss tells Snake "You are nobody's tool now. No one's toy. You are no longer a prisoner of fate. You - are no longer a seed of war. Your body and your soul - are your own." His whole life he was controlled and manipulated, his actions completely anticipated by the Patriots' system. Now he is, totally free, body and soul 🤍 And then Otacon's line after the credits, *"I'll remember everything you were, and stick with you till the end."* It's so heartwarming and meaningful and loving and compassionate. It reminds me of the plaque shown at the beginning of the film Shudder Island outside the insane asylum. "Remember us, for we too have lived, loved, and laughed." Just imagine having such a profound life, and having someone in your life towards the end that tells you don't worry, ill remember everything you were ❤ As far as the choosing sides, is there magic or can everything ve explained with science, this is how i see it. No matter how much we want to explain things away, we cannot explain everything away. There will always be some mysterious wonder in the world, some facet of existence that eludes us. Some - magic, in the world. Whether it ultimately can be explained with science but never is - we will simply never know ✨ This is also the first game where Snake gets emotional and isnt entirely stoic. While he watches Big Boss sitting up against The Boss's grave, he gets emotional multiple times. It just breaks my heart to see him come so close to breaking emotionally. Whenever Konami gets to remaking number 4, i cannot wait to see photorealistic old Solid Snake get emotional. Here's to an absolutely incredible journey, and here's to more to come! 🍻 Not much more, but still more lol I cannot wait dor you to be done with the series. There are some videos I'd recommend for you to watch afterwards because i think you will just love them, but you have to finish the series first! 😊

So I just finished watching your playthrough of the MGS series from MGS1 to the end of this game... and... I was 10 years old when I played MGS1 back in 1998... and watching this series kindled a lot of my nostalgia for this series... I really enjoyed it. Thanks for doing this series... I just want to say, while finishing this up, I love that the conversation between *Spoilers for people who haven't played this series up to this point* ---- Otacon and Snake in the post-credits, can serve as an analogy for the players of this series viewing Snake's story. Snake is a "man made beast" ... which is to say, that he is not naturally born, but rather, a creation of human beings chained to the medium of video games. Snake is not a real world person, but rather, a character forever attached to this video game series. Otacon acknowledges Snake's own self-reflection on his own identity as an unnatural creation by saying that he (he being Otacon) will be a witness, and not the only one, to pass on his (his being Snake's) story to others. We, as the players, are witnesses to the story of Solid Snake, and without us continuing to pass on our love for the character, story, and games, then Snake will have no legacy, but with us (the players) bearing witness to the game's impact on us, and passing on the memes [influence of information and experience] of the games to others, Snake's story doesn't have to die with him, but can live on as we (the players) see fit to share it.

Imagine how it was for a lot of us LONG term MGS fans who have played each game as they released since the very start, playing each title to death and accomplishing everything in each of them from collectibles to the fabled 'Big Boss' scores. Getting attached to each of the characters and in some ways growing up with them like family members, and then getting to the end of this game. Im man enough to admit that when i finished this for the first time, and a few times afterwards, i cried like a little bitch. The whole scene with Big Boss and Zero, bringing the story full circle and "back to zero", but most of all saying goodbye to Snake. I basically did grow up with Snake. MGS was my first ever video game back in 1999 when i was but 7 years old, and played every single game as they came out. For me, saying goodbye to Snake was as good as saying goodbye to a brother, knowing he wasnt going to live for much longer and just going off to live whatever life he has left in peace. I know it sounds weird to anthropomorphize and be that attached to a fictional character, but it honestly took me a while to come to terms with it being over.

His team claims that Raiden’s design wasn’t feminine and that he was just a handsome young man. If you see Raiden’s character art you can clearly see that Raiden was designed to look feminine. There is even concept art out there with notes highlighting where Raiden’s “panty” line begins. I’m not kidding. Then there is the president grouping incident and Raiden child bearing hips. In MGS2 you may notice everything about Raiden’s identity was questioned. His blood, his muscles, his hair, his past, his memory, his name.
