@@shspurs1342 I wouldn't really be able to consider the Pumpkins to be grunge. Grunge was a Seattle thing that everyone and their mother started imitating after Nirvana released Nevermind and hit it big, but the Pumpkins are out of Chicago and their first LP was Gish, which dropped four months before Nevermind and seems more like a psychedelic rock album than the punk-inspired grunge movement of Nirvana and Soundgarden.

The look on your face when that acoustic ending started was pure youth and excitement. The youth is wasted on the Young was a famously quoted phrase by George Bernard Shaw speaking on how young people are pretty much brainless and squander a lot of great opportunities with the excuse of being young. But the purity that he’s talking about is you know faith will help you to escape. And how the end of that song brings back that purity that childlike nature, the pure consciousness, which is pretty much, what I saw when you were listening to it. Also, if you listen to his podcast for the newest album, they came out with Ruby is a robot and it’s almost like someone without a soul is observing the world around them in a pure way without emotion calling out the culture for what it is.

Great to see you discovering the Pumpkins and getting so much out of it. They're one of the greatest bands of the 90s, big on technique, big on soul, and they had a huge impact on me when I was growing up. This song is in my top 5 Pumpkins tracks, along with Hummer, Mayonaise (yeah, they spell it wrong), Soma and Tonight Tonight. I've always felt they have a strong connection with The Cure, Pixies, and even Depeche Mode, but of course they have a lot of Metal influences too. It all helps to make their music really varied and interesting, and it doesn't hurt that Billy Corgan is a songwriting genius ;) The lyric that gives you goosebumps is inspired by the great Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw: "What a pity that youth must be wasted on the young". If Billy Corgan was going to be inspired by anyone, it might as well be one of the best ;)

Hey. The Smashing Pumpkins were the greatest and most prolific rock band of the 1990s. Billy Corgan was equally prolific at composing music writing lyrics and playing guitar. Some people like his voice others don't, personally I liked it a lot. They had the ability to create music that could soothe you and they also wrote plenty of heavy tracks as well as well. If you want to hear sheer brilliance I recommend the song "Drown" off the SINGLES movie soundtrack. Which also contains the song "Would", my favorite song from Alice in Chains. It's a tremendous soundtrack!! Another great song would be "Stand Inside Your Love" These 2 songs are both Epic and contain phenomenal guitar work. If you want to hear something that's extremely aggressive listen to the song XYU off The Melancholy and the infinite sadness album. To listen to something soft with the epicness of Pink Floyd listen to the song Porcelina of the vast oceans. You can't go wrong with any of their hits as well, as I'm sure most people are going to recommend but if you want to experience the true greatness of this band these are the songs that will blow you away. Through The Eyes of Ruby was a great track to start with by the way.
