Hundreds of videos I’ve seen about Taylor Swift’s brand and you’re the first person to get it right.
@bklynmyke12 күн бұрын
There's still more to it than this. It's HOW you react to your enemy. If you stand around yelling, "I hate this/them!" no one will care. You have to stand up to the/your enemy in a positive way. You can't just yell about why you hate someone/thing. You have to rise up in an inspiring way. A way that will rally people and make them root for you. They have to want to be able to picture themselves as the protagonist. People don't just root for Potter, Batman, or Swift (not a swifty). They wish they were them. They wish they had the resources and the courage to do what the person they love is doing. Oh, and BTW, I don't know why YT recommended this video, but I'm so glad they did. This was awesome!! New subscriber for sure. Can't wait to binge-watch.

@@gailscrypto1536 Exactly! I think of the Vegan Teacher. OMG. I'm not vegan, but I respect vegans. All vegans. Except for her. If you don't know her, then you'll live longer. She literally makes me want to eat more meat. She's so gross. She compared eating meat to being raped. I'm not going to go into that, but it was directed at a specific YTer who is very sweet and kind who was raped in college. I remember I was on my way to my friend's wedding. We ended up being late because bicyclists were riding through downtown Chicago, blocking traffic. Apparently, it was some sort of demonstration. The cops blocked up the streets until the bikes passed. My friend was screaming his head off at one of the protesters. He was ignoring my friend. I tried a different approach. I asked politely, "What is this protest about? What's this for?" to which the guy just grinned this cocky, condescending smirk and said, "Critical mass." So you have a protest that no one knows what it's for, and you piss off God knows how many thousands of people in downtown Chicago. Not the way to get people to be sympathetic to your cause.

She and I used to be « friends » or so I thought, and even went on holiday together once and I was very friendly with everyone else. They excluded me and stopped talking to me and then got others to think I was the one isolating myself from ALL of them. They were all older than me in their 40s. I didn’t react. Karma came when I was contacted for a new position in a more prestigious company in the same industry, with a higher pay. They were all flabbergasted when I quit. I did not give them the time of day and don’t intend to if I run into them ever again. And yes the ringleader was basically jealous of me, even though I wasn’t giving her anything to be jealous about and just being myself. She was talking about me behind my back, even to our boss and that isolation thing is the only thing that came up in my improvement areas during the quarterly evaluation lol that lady could say nothing bad about my job and was between a rock and a hard place when I quit 🤷🏾♀️ your enemies will make you stronger so thanks to them, my favourite haters 😘

Seems about 200% on-brand for her based on how she acts. Maybe it's real in her head, but more likely it's made up to appeal to an insecure audience. Good video, but keep in mind the enemy is a narrative device. It's a trick of the manipulator to convince you that you are afraid of something. In a story the enemy is just an embodiment of the weakness of the protagonist. The Stoic/Buddhist practice is to deal with an enemy, but not let them change who you are or what you do. Being too focused on an enemy gives that negative person a degree of control over your life. Not good. I had a horrible boss who wasn't even that good at back stabbing. One day I had the idea, instead of fighting his war -- and becoming like him -- I will, every week do something amazing. I'm sure Taylor Swift had a moment like that because she's the very definition of amazing. But I'm not a fan. I'm an old guy still listening to Joni Mitchell. No problem. I have deep respect for the community Swift's built with her fans. Until this video I didn't know how critical to her narrative were the mean girls, but instinctively I did. So well Done Taylor Swift. Mostly what I get from her is she's a woman with a notebook writing poetry, struggling with the things all women struggle with. Her challenge is as it is to all of us, with herself. But we all have some chip on our shoulder from past ill treatment. I'm almost 70 - it's still there. Almost everyday there's at least the echo of 'Oh yeah, I'll show them....' But I use it to push myself forward. Even if I had the chance I wouldn't seek out those who've wounded me and rub their noses in it. I wouldn't do that to anyone. It's cruel and a waste of time. Leo Koetke the guitarist song writer has a piece, "I guess I owe it all to Pamela Brown" because she fell in love with a guy who had a pick up truck, instead of him. His disappointment and jealousy went into his music. Just having the thought, what amazing thing am I going to do this week? Gets me motivated and gets something done. The downside? When any of us change for the better in some remarkable or different way, often the people in our lives who are used to us being a certain way can feel angry, hostile to the new changes. Often they reject us. We've upset the family, community, group....

Good video. Part of the reason the enemy effect works to help you define yourself without thinking about yourself. Trying to define ourselves is really difficult, picking something and opposing that is much easier. BUT, the bigger lesson is that you need a “point of view” or a worldview. You need to figure out what you are about, and what you’re not about. If you can truly do that you will be more unique in more ways than just who you oppose, but again it is harder & takes longer to work out. Using the enemy effect is a good step toward defining yourself without figuring out your whole worldview.

This is genious and so intuitively true, I hate that I haven't realised this by myself a long ago. Thanks for making it so obvious.

Yes this helped me with my studies. Like, for me it is to beat those who are already in the field and underestimate the first generation learners. I like when I achieve success and beat people who have better guidance and resources than me. Basically, I hate nepostism! A teacher ridiculed me for choosing science stream for higher studies, as I had no one in my family to help me with it. Now, I'm about to enter into medical field. I always remember his smirk!

Awesome video, I watched your video about contradiction as well. The ego loves its identity, it makes it seem alive. Hate and demonisation is how we define our ego and compartmentalise our love. Soon enough we conflate ourselves with it. But increasing self awareness and awareness of what you dislike and like can be very helpful especially compared to staying ignorant of the ego or even worse demonising it. All these good and bad value judgements are ends to means and as long as we have a body and live in a dualistic world it can’t be bypassed. I guess understanding your intentions and keep being aware of where you’re coming from is what matters.

I really hate it when companies charge you more for less. Like phones used to come with a headphone jack, ir blaster, replaceable battery, SD slot. Almost all of those have been removed. Or streaming services getting more expensive but having less content.

Love your take on this. I've read a few politics books about mass movements and populism which talk about how this kind of cult-like fanaticism is inspired, but I never thought to apply it to pop culture figures or brands

It's interesting the entire video I thought for sure one name would come up who believe demonstrates this concept more than any of the names included: Kanye West. He is the definition of a personal brand, George Bush, hurricane Katrina, Taylor Swift, 50 cent, Obama, Nike, Adidas, gap, Drake, the karadashians and so many other names have all been at one time or another enemies of Ye and his cultural significance is still growing along with the list of enemies. The difference I think between taylor swift and Kanye is that ye's brand truly is Kanye where taylor swifts brand like you said is about connecting with the insecurities of her audience. But the reality is taylor is THE cool girl now, and Kanye is still Kanye.

Great video and super informative, thank you! One thing: I think the word 'enemy' is quite intense, as I don't think I genuinely hate anything (but of course do have strong disliking for). Maybe 'antithesis' suits me better.

There is no enemy. That is just a construct to create division. I agree with what you say that it does work. People love something to blame their own problems on. This way they don't have to take any personal responsibility.

Mine has to be people who press the pedestrian crossing button more than once. They must be thinking the more they press it, the quicker it will change. As if pressing it 20 times makes it think there's a crowd of people so it needs to change quicker. But no, pressing it once sends a signal that someone is waiting. Pressing it more than once does nothing. In cities they're usually fake and literally do nothing at all. They call them "placebo buttons" because for some weird reason people can't stop themselves pressing it a hundred times
@samuel3253Ай бұрын
Worse are those people who press the button without looking if there are any cars going past and then cross the road when they notice that there aren't any, thereby forcing cars to stop with no one crossing the road.

best video to change the world for the better! it brings people to reflect and think about their values, which must be positive by identifying a negative value they try to work against. Saying this I am not sure if there is anyone who would say their enemy is honest people... because all dishonesty stems from trauma of suffering under dishonesty, in broad terms.
