Welcome to the second video from the RS5. If you haven't seen the first one yet, here is the link :
• £17.000 For Repair ???...
In this video we are removing the engine and trying to figure out what exactly happened . We were a bit shocked after several components were removed and this is what we found inside of the engine. Is the owner lucky or not?

Those rocker arms are notorious to fail at 30K miles or so on these Porsche designed V6s. Water pumps are also pushing coolant out into the vacuum port also, causing overheat and low boost concerns if it gets past the coolant solenoid and into the N75 solenoid and vacuum reservoir. Good times, lol

Likely the tune made the engine run much hotter than the OEM cooling can deal with causing lubrication and cooling failure. These engines already run hot with the OEM tune. You definitely need upgraded cooling for any stage 1+ tune to retain some reliability.

Very interesting video. Completely cures me of any urge to own one. Two major failures. Parts unnecessarily expensive, especially the charge cooler which really ought to be warranty or at least some "goodwill". Very much like older Audis having owned a B2 & B3 90s and still own a C4 A6 with the inline 2.5 diesel. 26 years and over 340k which just service parts. Never had a warning light on...... Working on a friends B6 A4 with the 2.5 V6 TDI which had suffered from the cam lobes shifting around breaking a couple of rockers we realised that it almost has more parts in one cylinder head than the whole of my inline 5 cylinder engine..... Is this really progress?

How the hell can a vehicle manufacturer like Audi be allowed to get away with developing an engine that has so many inherent faults. It’s basically designed to fail
@sm00077
@sm00077 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. IMHO the main problem is the air intercooler, which is leaky from water side. The coolant is in the engine through piston rings, it's in the oil so lubrication was bad and made these problems with the rock arms and fallen rock arm destroyed camshaft. Why the intercooler is leaky? Because some put there bad tuning box, which overpressured the air intercooler, that's it. I don't thing it's bad engine design, it's bad tuning by bad tuning box. Why ABT tuning has "only" 690N.m and no more, ha ?

@@sm00077 So putting the timing chain at the rear of the engine is a good design then ??
@sm00077
@sm00077 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAllEngineering If there is no need to change timing chain during lifetime, so why not? Of course You need to change oil more frequently then Audi said, so no longlife oil change. I have had no problems with timing chain after 170 000 km in S5 4.2FSI when I sold it and after 180 000 km in 3.0TDI, I still have it. Of course You should know that "lifetime" means 150 000km for Audi.
@TheAllEngineering
@TheAllEngineering 2 жыл бұрын
@@sm00077 Poor timing chain life is a common theme in these engines even when following the prescribed maintenance program. The fact that you have to increase the level of maintenance in order to combat a fundamental design floor is not acceptable. The whole short life of the timing chain stems from poor design. Poor combustion leading to contamination of the oil is a contributor to the short life of the timing chain, which comes about because of poor design. The diesel engines do not suffer from this issue so I would not expect you to have issues with your tdi. 150000 km life is a joke.

Super impressed by the diagnostic! If I ever move to England I know where to service my Audis. But the thing that raised my eyebrows the most is the case of insurance or lack of insurance. In Sweden owning such a expensive car you would have a insurance that covers a blown engine. 5 years (80.000km) or extended (8yrs 100.000) and it would cost between 150-300 quid for owner too have the engine replacement 🤷‍♂️

Timing chain needs to be replaced every 65k mls or it could fail, I've seen a couple with damaged pistons (yes that's still a thing) and the wastegate of the turbo wears out really quickly. Coils can go, and if you have a manual 6 speed, those can tear themselfs to shreds too. So plenty of problems but which modern car hasn't these days? Answer: electric Kia's, those seem to be pretty decent ;)

Great service! Great evidence of technical knowledge! I'm surprised Audi doesn't pay KZbin to censor your channel, because for a car of this age and mileage to have such a catastrophic failure screams protentional buyers to runaway from this brand! I never seen so many timing issues documented on one brand regardless of the engine. Awful!

And on top of that they put the timing chains at the rear of the engine so they cannot be easily accessed. They went out of their way to engineer it poorly !!!

I have a 2018 Audi A5 2.0l TFSI (approx 25k miles on the clock). Would I need to look out for the rocker arms, timing chain tensioners and guides failing early too? I only drive 3k miles a year, don't drive it like a sports car etc. The engine is a bit rattly when it starts up from cold, then is quiet once warmed up.

Is this carbon issue also a problem with the S5 B9? I assume the buildup is worse due to the coolant leak too mind which shouldn't be an issue as it's got an air cooled intercooler AFAIK. Does anyone have a rough idea for the cost of carbon cleaning on an S5 B9 in the uk? is it possible to remove the intakes with the engine in? I'm thinking of buying an S5 (2-3 years old, 30,000 miles) and I really don't want to be dealing with big issues like this...

Did they ever add port injection to this engine in later model years? Or in the 3.0 V6 in the S5?

goated outro music, when i saw the rocker arm i thought, yep that´ll do it, holy shit the engine looked sort of clean in the heads, so was it just crappy rocker arms??, if regular oil changes can´t prevent that idk what will... cheers great content

Rs3 ftw… Strong motors, make good power , reliable, and in terms of vag they’re not the worst thing to work on.. I think the driveshaft being frail af is stupid but aside from that not too bad… I was jdm back in the day, but the interiors just aren’t up to snuff I guess you’d say. It like you want to have a nicely modified fast car but need a nice interior for the adult side ..lol🤣🤣 basically need to make enough money to not care about cost or make some sacrifices when choosing a vehicle you intend to modify🤷🏼‍♂️. Great channel, great info 🤜🏻🤛🏻

I have a 2010 A5 ..apr_stage2 , and good bit of other mods.. and a 2014 Q7 prestige also modified. ( but not many tuning options in the 4L ) so just racechip tuning box and throttle controller along with other mods. Luckily no issues with either but want to upgrade mine and only real option is the rs3 basically too scared to get anything s5 and up . 1 can’t afford it brand new so it’d be used and 2nd it won’t be staying stock. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good grief man. And I thought the B5 2.7 was complicated. I too love the 2.7. I think the 2.7 and the 2.2 inline 5 are hard to beat.

i hear the rattle type noise kind of sounds like a garden sprinkler during acceleration. I cant reproduce the sound if the car is standing still and just rev it. nor is the sound present while cruising. i just hear it when accelerating and near a wall or parked cars usually make the sound more audible.. what you think would be the problem
