After having watched his 2018 performance of this timeless Scott Joplin piece on KZbin about a million times, I was fortunate to have the front row seat for this one in Chattanooga on Feb.3, 2023. What a master! You have to come see him play.

Richard Smith should be a household name! I was lucky to spend 4 or 5 days with this guy at one of Tommy Emmanuel's guitar camps a few years back (along with Frank Vignola, Vinny Raniolo and John Knowles CGP). A fabulous experience and watching Richard play individually and in combinations with the other world class players there, was the musical highlight of my life.

This is a good example of what can be done with a guitar in the right hands. I'd never heard this piece on the guitar. Really nice. I also like how he didn't put in a lot of embellishments since ragtime music is typically played "note for note" as written.
@PaulStrizhevsky
@PaulStrizhevsky Жыл бұрын
Great point! He does play this and other Joplin pieces as "note for note" as humanly possible with the guitar. Even from the way he talks about each piece of his repertoire, you can tell how much respect he has for the composers.

Magnifique. I love Scott Joplin's music. When I was young I played some guitar fingerstyle.....but was never able ( not good enough) to do music from this great musician. What a pleasure it is to listen to your fine performance. Bravo: Big like.

¡Impresionante, Richard! Gracias. Impressive Richard! I dare to suggest this other version of the piece with arrangements by the artist herself in case you don't know her, it's about Paola Hermosín: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXvMhWiEbJ5-eLM It's quite a different version than yours, but also very, very good. Thank you.
