On the subject of Dwarves, I have visited a medieval German mine (I believe it was iron), and the tunnels are quite small. The friend I was staying with while I was there, who was my guide to major landmarks around Dresden, held the opinion that maybe dwarves come from a very practical tradition of miners being smaller men, they they didn't have to dig out bigger tunnels. This association may also explain why Dwarves are reputed to live underground, and are associated with mining.

not completely correct, the small miners were, as in Britain too, child labourers misformed by harsh working conditions and accidents. Greetings von der Nordsee! 😁

With unicorns, a popular idea explaining their origin is that they're a misinterpretation of a rhinoceros or of a horned antelope seen from the side or faraway, or one missing a horn. If you think about the original description of a unicorn as a horse with a short stringy mane, lion's tail, and cloven feet then both of those make sense when you look at those animals.

In 2016, the Korean K-Pop band BTS actually created a song dedicated to it titled 'Whalien 52'.

Ok, I could go on for a long ass time about megaladons but I'll just give the big reasons for why it doesnt exist anymore 1. The megaladon originally went extinct because it's food, whales, moved away into colder climates. This left the megaladon with very few food options to sustain such a massive, ACTIVE, predator. 2. If megaladon were still around we'd find their teeth, a lot of them. You can go to almost any beach around the world and you'll find shark teeth washed up. Shark teeth work like a conveyor belt, they are constantly being replaced, we would have found tons if they were alive. 3. Just because the deep oceans exist doesn't mean something moved down there. Megaladons were not deep sea sharks, and EVEN IF they became such they wouldn't make such vast vertical migrations to be visible on the surface. That kind of pressure difference kills creatures. 4. Yes there are arctic sharks, however they are slow, very slow, they have entirely different hunting techniques and prey to an ancient megalodon. And before it comes up, the tooth we found that's dated 10,000 years old has numerous issues in the dating, furthermore we again would have found MANY of these teeth.

Theory time (yes, I did research for a KZbin comment): 51:55 as someone who’s spent most of my life in Oklahoma, I’ve always had a fear of swimming. It’s not because of a killer octopus, but mainly because of how murky the water is; you can’t see anything at all. Southeastern Oklahoma does have some alligators, so that’s a real problem. Luckily I live in the northeastern part of the state, so that’s good and I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. However, knowing what I do about marine life, I have a theory about the Oklahoma octopus. It’s nothing special, but plausible compared to a giant freshwater octopus. Oklahoma has a lot of catfish, and it’s definitely a popular food here. The catfish rarely get huge, but they can still be pretty big fish. Some catfish have been known to eat peoples, while it’s very uncommon, particularly the wels, piraiba, and and giant goonch catfish. There were even a couple episodes of River Monsters about it. The largest species of catfish in the state is the blue catfish, which has been caught up to 143 pounds in Virginia, but the state record is 98 pounds. If a blue catfish was to ever grow extra big, it might have the potential to possibly drown a small child or weak swimmer. If there was a giant catfish living in an Oklahoma lake, nobody would ever know. The water is too brown to see anything more than half a foot below the water and it would be too big for most people to catch with a rod and reel. Now, I’m not saying that there is an abnormally large catfish drowning people, but it seems pretty reasonable compared to a man-eating octopus in Oklahoma. Fun fact: a pacu was found in Oklahoma a couple years ago. Yeah, that Amazonian relative to the piranha with human-like teeth. Caught in Oklahoma. Maybe someone dumped a large catfish species in a lake one time and that’s the result? Who knows, but it sure is possible. Bonus fun fact: most lakes in Oklahoma are man-made from dams. In fact, Oklahoma has more man-made lakes than any other state!
@gold_green20013 жыл бұрын
The bonus fact was more of stating that it’s pretty much impossible for an octopus to be in an Oklahoman lake, and it would have to be an invasive species.

I've caught pacus out on fishing trips and I'll say they're crazy fighters, no idea what they're doing in oklahoma though. but you can see cichlids like peacocks in warmer areas like florida where they were introduced. If anything I'd be much more worried about an arapaima sneaking up on me underwater, those fish are huuuge

As a Native American… most skin walker stories stray away from what they actually are, when I was growing up I knew the skin walker was a person that was like a witch, the opposite of a medicine man. They simply wanted to cause trouble for people other than themselves

A very interesting underwater phenomenon is called "underwater gigantism" basically comes down to that most fish grow to match their environment for example gold fish in bowls will always stay small but fish in deep ocean where it's nearly empty they can grow up to a meter or two that might explain some of the giant squid and a sea serpent might as well be an eel that has gotten big.
@ryan.19903 жыл бұрын

That’s. Not how it works. Goldfish in small containers “stay small” because their growth is stunted, it’s just good old animal abuse. Pond goldfish are more likely to grow to their max size but they probably won’t reach a size way larger than what the species can be. If you bind your feet like a geisha, they’ll stay small and become misshapen, but not binding your feet doesn’t mean you’re gonna get huge sasquatch feet just because there’s nothing to contain their growth, they’ll just grow to a regular adult size, y’know?
@dbeast033 жыл бұрын
@@ariariaris totally correct, though deep sea gigantism *does* exist. It functions in both a similar way you described as well as an evolutionary one that occurs as animals become larger to compensate for many of the factors at play in the deep sea. Basically, by increasing the space that is avaliable and giving time for evolution, animals slowly adapt and sometimes split off into their own species as they slowly move deeper over generations.

the loch ness monster definitely shouldn't be a half moon bruh. the photographer of the original nessie picture confirmed that it was a hoax on his deathbed. also, there's no way plesiosaurs could survive to the cenozoic, especially just in one lake. cmon mane

The real Loch Ness monster was Aleister Crowley. He called himself Baphomet The Beast 666. And people used to refer to him as "The Loch Ness Monster". He used to own a mansion off the shores of Loch Ness and would hold Satanic parties there. Consisting of all kinds of debauchery. And not the cool kind like we're used to either lol

Well it could be a variety of things besides a plesiosaur. Plus during a dna analysis of Lock Ness lots of eel dna was found, so it could be a giant eel of some sorts.

The ention of the shadow men gave me chills. I'm pretty sure they're just a common hallucination caused by sleep deprivation, but typically without any eyes. Just silhouettes But having seen figures in the corner of my vision many times in my youth and even sometimes recently. Hallucination or not, they terrify me, and the fact I'm not the only person who sees them makes my paranoia act up.

@vasilijenicic68063 жыл бұрын
There is a phenomenon in psychology that could explain this. It is also responsible for all the "bloody Marry" stories. Namely, you know when you hear certain noise for a while and you stop hearing it at one point because your brain filtered it out? Well, same happens with your vision if there is stagnant spot you're not focusing on. BUT, here's the kicker. For some reason, brain can't accept that there is just a hole in your field of vision. So, instead, it fills it with random thoughts/imaged/memories. You can easily replicate this. Find a mirror, sit in almost perfect darkness and look at one spot in your reflection. Don't change your focus, and in a minute or two, you'll see imagine in mirror changing with your peripherial visionm But the moment you move your focus, image will be back to normal
