Though to be fair to Goku and the whole Cell thing after a certain point every villain/big threat that came to earth was because of him. Goku also just found out that his son doesn’t like to fight and he felt the genuine only way he could allow his family a normal life was to stay dead. Cell existed because of his past actions and he couldn’t defeat cell and had to leave that responsibility up to Gohan. At this point not only were people dying because of him but he wasn’t even strong enough to stop the being doing it

In the manga, the amount of dialog during Namek's impending destruction can be reasonably read in 5~7 minutes, so if you assume the fighting is happening at an impossibly fast pace that's merely slowed down for the reader (which, considering how fast they are said to move during Dragon Ball, while being literally a thousand times stronger on Namek, should be accurate), the "plot minutes" might as well be actual minutes.

legit, he lost his son to piccolo only cause he sacrificed himself to have gohan, then he had to go to namek in a space pod, then gohan had to evacuate otherwise he'd die, and he did miss the birth of his second son and missed 7 years of his first sons life, but only because he didn't want to attract danger towards them. He only misses time with gohan due to outside factors and wanting to keep him save.

I think they actually could’ve lasted longer had they been above Nappa (and subsequently the Saibamen), possibly stalling the fight despite being able to destroy Nappa easily together until Goku arrives. All of them could still be beat up including Goku (so he can get that tasty zenkai) but no one really has to die. THOUGH…that does raise the problem of the Z fighters never requiring the use of the Namekian Dragon Balls so the Frieza Arc never happens.
