Fun fact: Gary Sheffield told the Dodgers to buy him a house for 3 million dollars for him to waive his no trade clause. He wasn’t happy about leaving no state income tax Florida for high tax state of California. The Dodgers agreed and bought him a house.

As a Cub fan, there needed to be a warning before that NLCS Game 6 footage... But what is actually kind of weird to look back on (and I'm sure will be addressed in Part 2) is although the sabermetrics would probably show these deals working against the Marlins, they still found ways to win and it was ironically them finally choosing to stand pat with expiring contracts which led to a prolonged demise with top talent leaving with no return. You can certainly ask how the team would've been with Piazza remaining more than a week, or Johan not being traded right after the R5 draft, but how quickly could they have reloaded by trading Beckett/Burnett/Pierre when they had the chance?

Between not giving in to a billionaire and giving the team to the worst owner in baseball, the Expos owner, it’s what we expected. They still have 2 World Series wins and might still be the only team without losing a playoff series. I doubt the Marlins spend $47 million now, even tho some teams have 1 player making more than that.
