The Epiphone Brendon Small GhostHorse Explorer is a great deal

DISCLAIMER: This is not a sponsored video. It is a honest review and represents my personal opinion about this guitar.
I did not expect to like the Epiphone Brendon Small GhostHorse Explorer as much as I did. I am not a Floyd guy and definitely don’t need 24 frets. BUT… the GhostHorse is a great deal for 100$ less than the Epiphone Extura Prophecy. Think about it… a signature Explorer with Gibson BurstBucker pickups, Floyd Rose 1000 bridge, a EpiLite case is cheaper than the regular production line explorer like the Extura…. That is just Crazy!

floyd rose 1000 is a great deal for the guitar.usual they will give Floyd rose special for that kind of price

Would it be possible for you to do a video tutorial for the setup of the Ghosthorse? I ended up picking one up for myself (thanks in part to your review) and I've never setup any guitar before, let alone one with a trem bridge. I thought a setup might be a good idea because the action seems high and it doesn't look like my posts are screwed into the same depth. I know it's not fundamentally different than other dive-only FR systems, but knowing what to look for on this specific guitar may be helpful. Edit: My bad, I forgot you recommended having it professionally setup at the end lol. Or, if you have any suggested reading/watching for setting up a non-recessed Floyd, that would also be great. BTW, love your content. Thanks so much for doing this review/comparo. Been a Metalocalypse fan since high school, but didn't have adult money to pick up the Thunderhorses or Snow Falcons when they launched.

Ok... I have a serious question with the Ghosthorse can I put in a set of EMGs? Is there enough room in the back where the electronics are to stuff a 9v battery? Or would I have to actually route out a battery compartment? Which I'd rather not do..But that is my biggest hang up on not getting it so far is not sure if a 9 v. will fit

The thing is their shape is NOT the same. The ghosthorse has the traditional explorer shape and headstock. The Extura however has a pointier heastock and is narrower over the middle of the body. Just thought i'd let people know :)

Awesome comparison! I've been eyeing a ghost horse to go along with my Epiphone Gothic 58 explorer but a lot of people complain about the neck profile. Is it a comfortable neck?

I don't know about the ghost horse but I had the epi gothic that I bought online and it had the thickest baseball bat neck. I got rid of it quick. For me it was uncomfortable to play. It looked cool but that was it.

@@kylezakk I wasn't thinking when I wrote that. Mine was an epi gothic Les Paul not the explorer. I'm wondering if the neck profiles are different on the explorer vs the lp. If so I may have to try the gothic explorer since I loved the look.

0:40 Wow, the Extura sounds so bad by comparison, that's pretty surprising because everyone seems to love these pickups. I was considering one as well before buying my Ghosthorse, but if the Fishmans really sound like this, it seems I made the right choice. The playability and feel of the neck are great, so I love it for that reason alone. One slightly annoying thing I've found though that I didn't see you mention is that the nut is too wide in comparison with the neck/frets, so I sometimes accidentally push either of the e strings off the edge of the fret. Maybe it's just a technique thing, but it doesn't happen with any of my other guitars.

The fishmans are meant to sound good with plugins and guitar processors. I could have compensated the gain trough the amp but I wanted to showcase what a huge difference there is when you put them side by side with regular passive pickups. And yeah I think I pushed both E strings off the fretboard a couple of times.

You’re 100% in that. I got the extura and I started wondering if maybe my technique is sloppier than I thought. Never had an issue with the low E slipping off the board until this guitar. Being aware of it has fixed the issue but if I ever wanted to use it live I’d make some configuration adjustments for sure.

they're not the same body. The extura is, by design, thinner at the "waist." You can spot it with the naked eye by checking out the area above the control knobs where the pick guard would be. The explorer is thicker here, doesn't look as squeezed.

I'm an owner of an Extura Prophecy and all I have to say is that it sounds good etc etc BUT I do not have access to higher frets making impossible to play after 19th fret! I regret bying this guitar. Feels very bad.....

I had the Ghosthorse Explorer and sent it back. I hate floyd roses and unfortunately the Extura comes with those dumb Fishmans. Idk why Epiphone didn't went with Seymour Duncans.

@@GeorgeVGuitars I like both the Epiphone Flying V & Explorer Ebony, pretty good guitars but the stock pickups aren't anything to write something home about and I would like to see chunkier necks, i just love the 50's neck on the Epiphone Gold Glory. I hope Epiphone keep growing and will not push aside their original Designer shapes. I wish I wasn't broke when they had the Epiphone Brent Hinds flying V.... Keep up the great work with this chanel ! Cheers!

@@albertmarkethinkpr1325 Actually the necks of the 58 Explorer and V are pretty chunky. I have reviewed both with measurements. They are not LP Standard 50s chinky but still they are substantial. The pickups are on the soft side of things but are ok.
