When Hawk said “My advice? Go inside, shut that door and lock it behind you” and Tim replied “Unfortunately, the lock is broken.” The emotional metaphors are palpable.

Someone please explain what it means ???!
@jaimeml4791 Жыл бұрын
@@EM-mw6et so for Hawk to protect himself he always has to keep his walls up and never wants to allow anyone to get too close or to be too vulnerable with anyone, hence “shut the door and lock it behind you.” For Tim, his “lock is broken” so it’s not just that he doesn’t want to shut himself off from being vulnerable with people (specifically Hawk) but also it’s that he’s utterly incapable of doing otherwise.

For historical context for McCarthy and such, I recommend picking up a copy of "The Deviant's War: The Homosexual vs. the United States of America." Re: the park police. Public bathrooms aka tearooms were both locales for discreet sex with tearoom trade, but also police entrapment by undercover cops who were known to flash a guy and if the other seemed amenable, out the cuffs would pop.

And for the longer time frame, read James Kirchick's "Secret City: The Hidden History of Gay Washington." A terrific, exhaustive (but not exhausting) saga of the entire 20th century. Much is familiar, but there are some genuine surprises, and he pulls together an amazing amount of material.

Why are all your reactions so short. Other reactors have their reactions at 33 to 38 and sometimes 40 minutes long and don't say it is because of KZbin guidelines or some other reason. If that were true then the other reactors would have shorter reactions. Every reaction of yours is 14 min. or less and you talk for most of the time.
@Gaywatch7 ай бұрын
KZbin copyright isn't applied fairly across all channels, unfortunately. Some channels get to upload reaction videos and use tons of footage from the movie/show without the video getting totally blocked (but still demonetized), but even those channels typically get away with it by distorting or putting a semi-opaque image over the footage so that copyright detection doesn't clock it. This practice has always made me nervous about future issues should copyright holders ever decide to crack down (which is far from an impossibility), and personally I never liked trying to watch reactions with distorted footage to begin with. In copyright situations, sometimes big channels (100k plus) are allowed to get away with absolute murder, but even they're not treated consistently because there are plenty of big channels who are constantly copyrighted within an inch of their life. With the way I've figured out how to do things, any given show allows me seven minutes of footage total per video. In four years of KZbin these are the most reliable parameters I've figured out through extremely tedious trial-and-error, and even then sometimes a show comes along and won't even give me seven minutes. Or six. Or five. I'm about to re-edit a couple of One Piece reactions for like the fourth or fifth time because they keep posting fine for a couple of days, weeks, even months before they're suddenly blocked again. The process of posting reaction content is like walking through a minefield blindfolded. There are very few solid rules, nobody tells you what they are, they don't ever seem to be applied fairly across the board, nobody wants to share intel because it's treated like one big competition, and if you're not careful the channel it took years to build goes up in smoke overnight. We're all just doing the best we can. If there's a reaction channel out there posting clear footage of almost entire episodes of tv shows and they're not getting deleted into oblivion by copyright, I'd love to ask them how they pull it off because KZbin simply will not let me.

Some reactors make good money and have good lawyers on retainer. Some reactors know each other and pool resources as a group to have one. With a lawyer a reactor can be bolder and risk more.
