@@belityeIt’s not exactly cool is it? It’s debatable whether or not The Escape Club were cool even in the late 1980s- I never saw anybody writing this group’s name on their textbook covers in school. However they’ve got some great songs and most carry a more powerful message than we may have realized back in the day. One of the benefits of age is a certain wisdom that comes with not being cool.

On my dad's last year on this earth (2020) he listened to this song endlessly. On this little Bluetooth speaker my husband gave him. He took it outside with him while doing yard work. We danced to this song & sang along together. We were always together. Now I can't help but cry & dance at the same time...hoping he's right there beside me dancing along with me. My dad & I were extremely close.I was a daddy's girl. Now I dont know how to cope without him. I don't know even know what compelled me to write this. I guess I hope this song will bring joy to people's lives & that they create memories with this song just as I did with my loving dad. And I hope the new generation is introduced to this song & that they end up loving it just as much as the rest of us that grew up In the 80s and 90s. God bless everyone who took the time to read this. I wish you good health & happiness! P.s: In case you needed a little reminder, cherish your parents while they're here. Hug them and tell them you love them. Don't hold your love back!🤍

I beg to differ. There are many great bands around now. In 40 to 50 years this generation won't be remembered for all the pop music. Just like decades of the past the best will be at the top. That's how it always works. Most people don't recall the popular songs of the 70s. The songs we consider popular of that time aren't always the ones that were topping the charts.

Kristian Untch I mean you can get pissy all you want but the fact is that yes, there are plenty of cult classic that will come from every decade of music. The fact that you seem to be bitter about life won't change that. Stick to your simple minded ways and only listen to 3 decades of music if you wish. It makes not difference to me.

@kristopher Medlin Going through the top 100 songs by year(this one #28 of 88 for reference), I can say that popular music was great in the 80s, 70s, and the 2 or so decades before that. Of course the unpopular music was in many cases just as good. Todays popular music doesn't have that same goodness at all as @Mark Rooney pointed out. You of course may be right that the unpopular songs of today will be popular for future generations, but I believe that the late 20th century may still be more popular even then.

This song made The Escape Club the only British band to have a Billboard Hot 100 Number 1 single, and never chart at all in their homeland. How ironic!

They were getting more into electronic dance music by the late 80s. I don't think this song fit with the popular music style of the UK in that era.

This year 2018 marks 30 years that this song came out and it was #1 on the Pop Chart here in America, plus this song and the album of the same name struck Gold God Bless The Escape Club for a job well done and also, this song was their 1st of 3 Top 40 Hits on the American Pop Chart The other songs were "Shake for the Sheik" which peaked @ #28 and their final American Single called "I'll Be There" which peaked @ #8 and BTW, I use to watch the Music Video on Night Tracks on SuperStation TBS and America's Top 10 with the late Casey Kasem Plus, this song was out when shows like Full House, A Different World, Square One TV, Classic Concentration, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Night Court, L.A. LAW, Murder, She Wrote, 227, Amen, The Golden Girls, Empty Nest, ALF, Paradise, Dallas, Knots Landing, 3-2-1 Contact, Good Morning Miss Bliss, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek: TNG, WISEGUY and HUNTER were still on the air Plus, Joe Montana & the San Francisco 49ers RULED the NFL, The Bad Boys known as the Detroit Pistons RULED the NBA on CBS, Tommy Lasorda and the Los Angeles Dodgers RULED the MLB, the late Judge Wapner still RULED The People's Court, Oprah was once again The QUEEN of Daytime Talk, JD Roth & The Forrest Twins were the KING & QUEENS of the Fun House and the late TV Icon Dick Clark was still KING of the Bandstand via NYRE & AMA as well as the Master of Surprises and also, the late Macho Man Randy Savage along with the late Miss Elizabeth RULED the World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment) Remember those days?

This song sums up the 80's well, lol. This is on my 80's county list cuz it was on J.C. Cowboy's playlist on Thursday's Rock nite. Yeah, Cowboys can rock out with the best of them! (Of course, there was a city boy or two that could rock it also;)

In the 1980's I was living in Hawaii; about as far west as you can get and still be in America, lol...picture 14 Navy sailors, men and women, sharing an off-base 2bdrm apartment in Honolulu...one of whom had a police -scanner on the balcony, so we'd know if the partying got too loud. This song perfectly described the atmosphere AND the wild-haired, gorgeous local women from the neighborhood who'd stop by to 'hang out with the Haoles' and drink incredible amounts of Hana Bay rum, and so became our favorite tune to blast from the living room stereo-system, lol...I still have my originally-purchased-cassette-tape of this album. Good stuff....

The lyrics remind me of how I looked forward to the '70s, the '80s, and the '90s, wondering each time what interesting or amazing things were going to happen in the coming decade. 2000, not so much. 2010 onwards, who cared?
