Thanks for the good review. I own a Bloom since half a year back, I use it almost every day. When I use the paper filter I get the best result with a grind size between filter and aero press. I also love to ones in a while brew without filter getting best results with a french press grind size. I have a Wilfa Svart grinder. To get rid of the water pocket when rinsing the paper filter I put a clean towel under the brewer, that draws the last bit of water completely away.
@Sprometheus3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome, and thanks for watching. It’s definitely a solid brewer, and I think the grinds will vary quite a bit depending on your grinder. My niche creates more fines when grinding coarse, if that makes sense, so I had to go a little more coarse for the filterless brew. Good tip on the water pocket, I’ll have to try that out.

I've been brewing with the Espro Bloom for a couple of months, and really enjoy the results I've been getting from it. The faster drawdown also allows it to brew quite large amounts despite its relatively small size. As for the filters, it takes me no longer to separate them than it takes for me to grab a V60 filter out of a bag. Following their official instructions that came with the filters, putting your hand in the middle and expanding them makes it really easy to grab the outermost filter by pulling on it just a little bit. Might take a little practice, but it's really not a hassle in my experience!

Another way is to pour decent amount of hot water on the metal and then quickly put the filter in. Should make the pre-wetting process easier. Great content and it’s good to see some recipes for the bloom. Thank you. The paper filters are definitely a design flaw but since I don’t mind so much, the cups I’m getting from this thing are gorgeous. Sweet and clean. Can go finer on the niche cause of this fast draw down.

I use the Bloom regularly and we put it on for our pour over at the shop I work at. I've found that if I put my entire hand into the stack of filters and fan my fingers out, the outside filter will come away with relative ease. I still have to re-form a pleat or two, but it's not too bad. It's still annoying, but I really don't think it's an issue, now that I'm used to it.
@jdrobison19673 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I found. Make a spear tip with your fingers, put your entire hand in to the bottom, fan your fingers out as wide as possible and the outer filter peels away quite easily.

Great review! I've enjoyed my time using the Bloom. I also found the filters frustrating and have done exactly what you are doing. I then rinse the filters in lukewarm water (with water poured into the center). Then, again with hot water on the sides so it has less chance of collapsing in. Anyways, I found that helpful. Now to try your method once I get the Bloom back!

Hmm. If I had designed filters for this thing, it would just be a round sheet for the bottom, as, after looking through your review, using filters on the walls seems to be optional.
@Sprometheus3 жыл бұрын
I do think you need a bit of side filter to create that level of flow they want to go for, but I don’t think that the pleats are all that necessary if you want to keep the water level low.

I've found that brewing much larger amounts than their recipe produces better results. I'm using 512g of water to 32 g of coffee. 16:1 ratio. The filter separation problem is just like any other pleated filter. I tend to separate a batch of them at a time to make it easier for the following days. I've thrown out their marketing spin of a "fast brewer", from my use of this brewer. Saving a minute or two is not going to make my day better. Drinking tasty coffee will start my day well. After some experimentation, this brewer does make some tasty coffee.
@Sprometheus3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t find a lot of great results from larger doses, but then again I didn’t try it a whole lot. Personally I brew one for myself and that’s it, I only use big doses on the Aeropress. I’m with you on the faster brew. That wasn’t what interested me about the Bloom. More so just having a flat bottom option that doesn’t choke easily.

Great review. I have been using the Espro Bloom now for about 6 months and the filters are indeed a pain in the ass but once you figure them out it's really no big deal. What I do is spread them out like you did in the video but then I grab the outer ridge of one of the pleats and pull. I do that several times as I go around the entire filter and voila - it's out! Really takes only about 5 seconds extra than pulling out a Kalita filter. I have to say however that I sometimes go back to my Kalita Wave and the taste is really no different. I sometimes feel like it would be better to just stick with my Kalita but the Espro Bloom is a much faster cup. I'm done with the whole bloom and extract process in under 3 minutes where you're pushing 4 minutes on the Wave.
@Sprometheus3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, and thanks for watching and commenting. I’m with you that the filters do get easier, but there has to be a simpler filter design out there, or maybe not who knows. I felt like the Kalita brews I make have more texture than those the Bloom made, even without a filter. But it all comes down to so many factors it’s hard to say definitively. I do like the speed of it, it’s become the one I reach for in a rush.
@whistlerrealestate13 жыл бұрын
@@Sprometheus I've actually been reaching for my Bonavita drip brewer lately. My tastebuds are relatively refined but in a rush I'd rather just get a 3 cup pot made up in the drip brewer and it's still pretty damn tasty.
