Hello Anne-Laure, thank you for the review! Many people comment that Hazel Soan's books don't contain many step-by-step examples. Did you know that nearly all Hazel Soan's books are accompanied by a DVD? This book is no exception. You can watch her create paintings and demonstrate techniques that she talks about in the book. There are some excerpts on KZbin; her method of teaching is very clear, and I have learned a lot from her. I hope this helps! By the way, your paintings are beautiful!

Thank you for this detailed review! I just ordered a copy based on this. I love both your paintings and Hazel's, and I agree that you are close in style to each other :)

Thank you for showing Hazel Soan’s book. Her artwork is beautiful. I find her writing of the art difficult to understand and wishfor more information. My main language is english, and I really struggled to understand what she was trying to say. I am reading her book “Light and Shade in Watercolor”. Your watercolor work shown here is beautiful. 🙂

Good job on doing the painting exercises. This does not seem like a book for beginners, more for the advanced watercolor artists. Good to know. Thank you for the review.

Excellent review. I have bought many art books that I thought were going to explain the process of wonderful paintings in the book by the author, only to be disappointed again and again when there's nothing but a little blurb about them. I inevidably try to copy the photo to learn, but just end up frustrated, not knowing where even to start. It's why I love your videos! You are such a good teacher and communicator, most times giving the "why" of what you're doing. That's so valuable. It just occurred to me that this video is from 2016, and you'll probably never see this comment. But thank you anyway for sharing like you do.

Thanks for the in-depth review of this book. I enjoy watching Hazel Soan on youtube videos; she has such a loose style of painting. I just put a hold on the book at my library.

Thank you for posting your review, Anne-Laure. Hazel Soan caught my interest several years ago with her fresh approach and wide variety of subjects. For reference purposes, I put together a playlist of links to videos about and by her including this review. It is one of my sources of inspiration. Your videos are as well.

Thank you for this review. I'm new to watercoloring and love all your videos. This was a nice informative review since I've never heard of Hazel Sloan. Are you going to write a book too? : )

To me, Hazel Soan's watercolor is as romantic and beautiful as a poem. It is like a dream to me ! George Wu, ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB 2017-12-1

THAnk you for the comments - it wasn’t at all too long. While I absolutely love Hazel's work, I always find her commentaries to be too vague and lacking any sharing of her methods. She appears in some British painting magazines and same thing - exquisite painting but scant information or instruction.

I only have one dvd by her called watercolor rainbow. In the dvd she demonstrations many of her techniques and ways of working. I am guessing that this is the case with other of her dvds. I think someone mentioned earlier that most of her books are accompanied by a dvd which gives lots of information and practical advice.

Merci Prune!! 😊😉

This is not a review, it's a promotion - a review is a critical dissection of a subject, there's no critical approach here. I guess it's obvious once you watch the video so that's fine, but the header is very misleading.
@Toyon956 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It's a review.

So do I, if you are thinking of buying the book as I am and have looked for book reviews this is very helpful in giving you an insight of what is in the book and what someone who has read it feels about it.
@JohnLankford-n4b Жыл бұрын
Very helpful seeing the pages with comments before one buys the book. If it were a critical review it would have said "critical review". Give the lady some space for generously making this video for you the see!
