Thank you Elyssa for this video! I'm happy you showed women with different contrast. I know Kitchener said that Ethereal were low contrast but it kind of rub me the wrong way. Ethereals comes from mythology/arts mainly, and what a being from those worlds could look like would differ from a continent to another and would be closer to the beauty of the area. It would eliminate a big amount of the population too, by extension. It kind of feel like the "Blond is the good girl and the Brunette is the mean one" which in many ways perpetuate a bad ideology. When thinking of Lisa Bonet, we cannot deny her other-worldly qualities. The topic of essences is just so rich and interesting, it's always great to see it evolve as a better tool to help people! I can't wait for part 2!

Welcome back! ❤ I’m seeing Ethereal peer diagnosis EVERYWHERE lately, and I’ve always felt it’s relatively rare. Personally, I don’t jive with it AT ALL, and feel as opposite as can be. I do have a lot of Gamine essence, so what you say here makes so much sense x
@elyssa_aesthetic10 ай бұрын
Yeah, it seems to a highly sought after beauty aesthetic these days. But after 100’s of analysis I’ve found it to be fairly rare in a high degree. Sometimes there’s women who have a smaller percentage of Ethereal beauty and need that little boost Ethereal styling principles to bring everything together. And, yes, your beauty is fairly opposite of the Ethereal but equally beautiful ✨
@LotusesGalaxyOcean10 ай бұрын
Actually, I think ethereals often need texture and patterns. It just needs to be subtle and low contrast. If that is neglected then clothing looks off because it lacks the ethereal tone. It is one reason why an ethereal looks so odd in a standard tee. Also, I would say the coloring section is not particularly helpful here for me. I am basically a true winter while also being almost 100% ethereal.

@AngryTheatreMaker10 ай бұрын
I have ethereal as the third part of my blend (dramatic/romantic/ethereal), but I get it--patterns and texture add another dimension to a basic outfit no matter your essence(s). And in my case I'm Dark Autumn, so presenting as the stereotype of ethereal in pale washed out colors isn't an option for me either. I find I do well in oversized abstract patterns, flowing textures, and color schemes borrowed from Italian Renaissance paintings. (The metallics for my season really help to emphasize all three of my essences: Dramatic looks all the more striking, romantic the more glamorous, and ethereal comes leaping out with a bang.) Sorry about the mini-essay--and I do hope you find ways to square your essence with your True Winter palette!

The typical denim jeans casual look looks most disconnected against this essence in my experience. That can be someone's first possible clue. Colored jeans are workable but the need for a touch of every day elegance is there. Something that leans safari or 90's preppy more than street looks. I'm still navigating fitting casual looks. That could be a video idea.

Elyssa, your "inverted gamine" and "Elongated S" descriptions had me sitting bolt upright! until this video I had failed to find a reference anywhere to the kind of tall Flamboyant Natural that I am. I seem to be a juxtaposition of features which shouldn't be together in a FN. For example tiny wrists attached to wide short hands, a tiny waist joining hips and shoulders which are 2 dress sizes wider, yet a flattish chest and flat rear, a long torso and short legs, circle-arched eyebrows in an otherwise yang face, the list goes on.... Not all your recommendations would work for me, so I doubt I'm a pure ethereal; but many of them explain why I'm drawn to soft draping despite having a yang physique, and why my #1 favorite style of clothing to wear, and what i always get the compliments on, is floor-length dresses. Hmm, maybe I should lean into that more :)
@elyssa_aesthetic10 ай бұрын
It most definitely sounds like you have some ethereal beauty! And the difference between what some call a FN and an Ethereal is very stark. Naturals will not have the statuesque majesty that pure ethereal a have. And some sense of weightlessness is a must for ethereal beauty. The list goes on but I use ethereal as a main beauty archetype in my system because I believe it’s 100% necessary in order to fully communicate some individuals beauty. I can’t wait for you to see part 2…..I think you’ll really connect with the examples!
@a24-4510 ай бұрын
@@elyssa_aesthetic Thank you so much for your kind reply Elyssa. Although I can talk about my physical build, I don't think I can be objective enough about my body to say whether I give the impression of being "statuesque" or "weightless". In fact I am quite sure no-one could assess their own "quality", even if they were to watch a video of themselves. I guess that's where an unbiased observer such as yourself comes in! Your video made me realise that when (as it appears to me) the dressing recommendations for "my type" only apply to me to a certain extent, it doesn't really matter whether my body can be categorised as a recognisable type, or whether my body is unique. Either way, I still have to make in-the-moment choices about what to wear. I will always have to dress to accomodate my "tallness" plus "breadth" plus "long torso" plus "x-shaped torso" , and yang flesh. But it's fun to look closely at all the types, to see whether there are design features I might consider borrowing for myself. Ethereal sounds like a look I already have as part of my wardrobe; so I'm looking forward to Part 2!

As far as I know ethereals are on the Yin side of the spectrum, like romantics and ingenue . Gamines are Yang. You kinda switched it up. They are also called ethereal yin, being the most yin essence (though it does kinda flow back into yang). Gamines are kibbe yin (body type), while in kitchener (essence) yang.
@elyssa_aesthetic10 ай бұрын
Yeah I did switch it up! The way I consider beauty within some of the archetypes is different than some beauty and style professionals. I wouldn’t say it’s vastly different, but you’ll find slight variations from stylist to stylist. I consider Ethereal large scale, sculpted mature yin which resides in the yang side of the spectrum and Gamines small scale youthful yang which resides on the yin side of the spectrum. I know it’s popular to consider ethereal the most yin and angelic. That viewpoint seems to have been made popular by Kitchener. But just like McJimsey considered Romantic to be in the middle of the spectrum and Kibbe considered it most yin, there is room for personal creative liberties to be taken ✨ That’s really been the beauty of creating my own method and typing system; I get interpretive and creative freedom 💛 And it’s been so interesting to see a lot of individuals get professionally typed by a few different stylists in this niche (the archetype systems) and get varying results and recommendations.
