i joined Etsy a few months ago and ready to quit after doing everything right. If you're not in the algorithm, making even 1 sale is extremely difficult. I thought my art wasn't good enough to sell but turns out it wasn't that. It's just overly saturated and newbies barely stand a chance. Might just give EBay a try,

Be careful selling anything on ebay - the "satisfaction" policy allows pretty much everyone to request a refund and send you back some random piece of trash from a one-time use account. Don't sell unless you can afford to lose a few items to scammers.

I know what you mean about Etsy, I’m constantly getting messages from people asking me to donate my artwork to their charities. sometimes they’re legit, sometimes they seem like scams. But either way, I can’t just send artwork for free to everyone all the time. I need to be able to sell it! Haven’t been contacted by any of those on eBay. not to say that there aren’t scammers on eBay, cause there probably are. They’re everywhere. But I think there are less.

Hi Krystle! Great info! Since I don’t have a printer I do rely on Print-On-Demand. Do you think it would be a good idea to show an actual print on a video but then inform my customers that they will receive their prints from a printing partner? I’m just trying to be honest with my customers. Thanks!
@KrystleColeArt15 күн бұрын
Good question! Is there a way that you can get a print that is made by the print on demand company? You could do an unboxing of it so they could see the exact print, the way it's packaged and everything. That would be pretty cool, I know it might not always be possible if you have a lot of different prints. Maybe you could show unboxing without showing which exact print it was, then you could use that video for all of your listings. Just some ideas :-)

Have you tried selling originals on Ebay, or does this only work with prints?
@KrystleColeArt19 күн бұрын
I haven’t tried selling many originals on eBay, just a couple recently so I don’t know too much personally. But I have seen several other artists selling high dollar originals on eBay. One in particular is a viewer of my channel. He put an original oil painting up for auction and people were bidding on it. so it wasn’t a fixed priced listing.

EBay has changed from its beginnings -- for the worse. It used to be a place you could buy from individuals who wanted to sell stuff they had around the house. Now it's mostly stores. But Etsy used to be a place for selling crafts. Now IT is mostly stores. What we need is a place that BANS stores and only allows individuals to sell one-off items. I don't see that happening anytime soon. But at least you are having success for now. So it's a good video.
@la613617 күн бұрын
I don't see anything wrong with a store selling. Most people on Ebay and Etsy are small businesses even if it is a store. Why would platforms ban professional small businesses in favor of individuals who don't know what they are doing, provide bad customer service and make tons of mistakes?

Shipping costs the same whether you’re selling on Etsy, eBay, or your own website. I just charge extra to cover the shipping. it depends on what size of work you’re mailing, but USPS has fairly affordable rates. Most art prints ship for under five bucks.

Thank you for the excellent ebay tips video. ❤ Do you think that ebay is also a good way to sell commissioned art? (I was thinking: pet, people or house portraits, etc.) I learned a lot and I think that it may be a great place to start selling, especially if you are an artist who doesn't trust the way Etsy has been shutting down people's shops minutes after they sign-up and pay the fee, or how they have shut-down long-time Etsy Seller's shops who were very successful, and were not selling prpoducts that infringed on other's Copyrights or Trademarks.
@KrystleColeArt18 күн бұрын
I'm not sure about commissioned art, it's an interesting idea. I don't see why not, if you do some experiments and start selling commissions on there, please let me know how it turns out! I'd love to know :)

I have sold about 2,000 paintings on ebay but they are paintings and not prints. I would suggest getting an ebay store, it only costs $4.95/mo and you can list up to 250 items. You get your own url for your store and it's like having a website for very little cost. Ebay fees are 13% but if you use the ebay shipping service you save 23% on shipping so it kinda evens out. You don't make as much money on ebay as you would at an art show but you don't have to set up a tent, haul a table and your paintings to the show and then pay a fee to the promoters for maybe selling only two or three paintings. I sell in a very niche market and I have built up a following over the years. I have sold a few on etsy but with ebay you get much more exposure. I personally think that people are moving more to buying art online because not everyone can get to a show and, like selling, it's much easier to do from the comfort of your home.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience selling art on eBay! I also have an eBay store, I didn’t mention it in the video but I do find that it’s good. Helps to have the free listings. That’s pretty much why I signed up for one, though, I couldn’t tell that it made my sales any better, but it did get me free listings. If you wouldn’t mind, what are the price ranges of the paintings that you’re selling on eBay?
@sunsetpalms192310 күн бұрын
@@KrystleColeArt I don't sell anything that I don't make at least $50 on because it's not worth the time. My prices range from about $90 to over $400. I figure I keep about 2 thirds of what I make after fees, materials, shipping, etc...

There has to be point where one has to stop chasing the monkeys tail. Ebay is late to the game and will be going down the AI Etsy hole as well. As long as the public buys it they will keep on producing garbage. Garbage in, garbage out.
@KrystleColeArt2 күн бұрын
It's true, if customers buy it, people will keep producing it. And of course, there's always people that are willing to use AI to try to game the system and make money off of doing very little effort. But for now at least, my work is showing up better in eBay than it is in Etsy. So I guess you just have to evolve constantly. I definitely see what you're saying though. eBay will probably get overfilled with AI art eventually as well.

Wtf was that data visualisation graph on the thumbnail?? No data on either axis, the plot going up is represented by two separate (yet showing the same thing) childlike eye-catching colours without meaning anything? This is not a good form of clickbait, please be informative not rage inducing. Interestingly, on different devices I am getting different thumbnails so I hope this is just a visual mistake on my phone. Interesting video in any case, just verging on scummy thumbnail choice.
@KrystleColeArt19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the thumbnail critique, yes, there’s no data on the thumbnail graph. It literally is just a graph. I have two different forms of the thumbnail I am testing. Ultimately I just need to find the one that people will click on best so that the most viewers will be able to watch the video and get the information. Doesn’t really matter to me what’s on the thumbnail as long as people get good information after they click and watch the video. And, the thumbnail does match the video, so it’s not clickbait lol :-)
@abluntspoon19 күн бұрын
@KrystleColeArt thanks for the insight into your reasoning, I do still think it's clickbait even with your explanation because there being no data means the graph is just a tool for clicks, not informative, so clickbait. If it had a title "sales" it would imply a change over time (line graph) whereas if you put 2 bars, one short with "etsy" and one tall with question marks, it would imply you're gonna reveal your secrets in the video. Sorry for the unsolicited advice and being unresonably upset by this, I'm just studying data stuff. Happy holidays anyway!
@isskierka054917 күн бұрын
@@KrystleColeArtI on the other hand currently see the other thumbnail, blue background, raising white graph with "better than Etsy" text. I personally think it's good, made me click. I actually didn't read the video title at all, just clicked because what's on thumbnail is what I'm interested in lately. And because of it obviously being about selling, I immediately know that it's a graph about money, so I don't find these types of thumbnails irrelevant if the person that uses them actually makes more money lately and is kind to say how and on what platform. I think it's a pretty decent thumbnail in terms of attracting attention and the video is what I expected to hear about when I saw this thumbnail. Cheers
