Subscribed! I have set-up my Google Tags with the Event Parameter: item_id and Value: {{Click Text}}. I've previewed this an the tags are firing correctly. I've also uused the DebugView on GA4 and I can see that when the user clicks on a button the parameter item_id is showing up which is good. I've set up the custom dimension to track the event parameter item_id. However, under Explore when I add Event Name and my custom dimension and Event count metric I get the following error: "No data for this combination of segments, values, filters, and date range. Try editing the variables or settings or remove them." Does this happen because it's a new custom dimension ? I'm not sure how to fix this. I'm 99% certain that it's set-up correctly lol

First, thanks for watching and for subscribing. Happy to have you aboard! Even more importantly, I'm glad that the tags are firing and that all looks good in DebugView. A good sign for sure. Your issue with your Exploration is may be related to what you suspect. Your custom dimension is not retroactive and you will only be able to access the data from the time you've set it up. It's also possible that there is a data compatibility issue in your report. It sounds like you are pretty familiar with event parameters and custom dimensions. But just in case, here's a resource on that: www.rootandbranchgroup.com/ga4-event-parameters/ And here's a Google support article on data compatability: support.google.com/analytics/answer/11608978?hl=en Best wishes!

@@rooted-digital Thanks for the reply, i'll wait 24 hours to see if it begins to populate. Also, on my website if a user clicks on the "contact us" button and if that contact as us now page opens in a new browser tav the Google Tag Assistant will not connect / fire. Is that expected behaviour ?
@rooted-digital7 ай бұрын
It depends on where the new page loads. If it loads on the same domain, it should stay connected (although I've had times when it hasn't and I've had to restart the tag assistant and try again, or even just load the tag assistant to start on the redirected page and test that way). If your redirect page is on a different domain, then no, it shouldn't stay connected.

@@rooted-digital thanks! That’s sorted it.

Thanks for that!! It helped me a lot. Total beginner! May I ask another question: I got the assigment (in an online course) to create an event to measure the container call. I was told to use the following parameters: anonymizeIp, container_id and container_version. Just a simple manual setup. Now not sure which values to use for these parameters? Can't find any example when googling. It would be great if anyone could advise... Many thanks!

If you're still working on this, check out "built in variables" and you can use them for container_id and container_version. Best of luck. support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/7182738?hl=en

Hi there, That was awesome explanation.. My doubt: I have sent the page_view as dataLayer event and event name is "page_view" and the site is not a SPA and also I have set trigger to config tag as custom event "page_view" but when I preview the GTM config tag fires in History change which is weird though the site is not a SPA. Is this because the GA4 defaultly send one page_view and we send one "page_view" via dataLayer which both have same naming convention? Or Is there anything I'm missing out? It would be very helpful if you clear this out for me..

Hi there, I'm not entirely sure about this. But I'm confused about sending the page_view event. Why are you doing that? The page_view event is collected by default by GA4 already and I don't think you can turn it off there even if you wanted to: developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/ga4/views?client_type=gtag
@brz3tyslaw6 ай бұрын
you need to turn it off in GA4 stream settings
@rooted-digital6 ай бұрын
@@brz3tyslaw are you able to do that in your property? I haven't seen any way to be able to do this. The page_view event is the one enhanced measurement event that can't be turned off. Don't ask me why Google didn't make it one of the automatically collected events, since it seems to function that way
@brz3tyslaw6 ай бұрын
@@rooted-digital seems to work for me :) admin -> data streams -> click on stream -> scroll down to events -> click on gear icon(bottom right) in enhanced measurement section -> in Page Views section click "show advanced settings" -> uncheck "Page changes based on browser history events"

@@brz3tyslaw , thank you. I'm thinking two things: 1. I had no idea this was possible. Thanks for the new knowledge. 2. I'm still not sure if this would help giri. When I look at those advanced page settings, there are two toggles. One is "page changes based on browser history events" as you've said. The other is "page loads" - and this second one cannot be toggled off (at least, it's grayed out for me). And that's the one I think that would need to be turned off. Since giri's site isn't a single page application, a page_view event would fire on "page load" for each new page that is viewed. With all that said, I could be wrong and I'd love you take. You've already taught me some new stuff, so please feel free to keep on doing it. Best wishes to you and thanks again.
