Decades ago some long haired friends of mine insisted Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Allman Brothers were superior to the likes of The Everly Brothers. Today, those same friends -- having listened more closely to this track & songs like "Lord of the Manor," -- have apologized to me. They still love their CS&N and Allman Bros. - and should -- but The Everly's -- they are in a class of their own musically and vocally.

These guys were just the best. So sad they fell out with each other. There'll never be another band like them. If anyone wonders why the 1950's,60's music is still played all the time, just listen to them.

I saw them around 1986. Their blend took me off guard... I found I was weeping from the sheer beauty. I was a pretty macho teen so that freaked me out. This brings it right back to me. Jeez. I remember thinking they were "old". HAHAHA. They were masters ... and still are.

As a grown man I'm happy to admit that I've loved these guys like they were my family for the past, wow... 56 years. As a lifelong Beatle fan I knew from the beginning where John and Paul's harmonies came from (as they always admitted.) It's dawned on me recently that what made and makes the brothers so entirely unique and the experience of listening to them so exhilarating, especially the Albert Hall reunion concert... is that there's not a second when you're listening to them and watching them that you're not AWED by that sound. You simply feel a sense of disbelief that anything can be that good. Honestly, and I know we're all saying it...but they were simply the best, beyond comparison, in a category entirely by themselves. A mold forever broken.

I can't seem to decide which one I like better. I began to watch them last fall when I was checking out Ricky Nelson. I told my daughter to play the birddog song by him and she said he didn't have a song about that. Then I thought Don was ignoting Phil when they sang and Phil was so attentive to Don. From then I was "hooked." I heard or read somewhere that Phil watched Don to be able to harmonize with him. Maybe...

I love the Everly Brothers and I love this song. What makes this song stand out for me is the steel guitar in the background. At 1:34, Don glances over his shoulder at the steel guitar musician as if to say "You look like you're having a great time with this song".

Excuse me, I meant "ignoring Phil." It sort of angered me because I couldn't see anyone ignoring that sweet guy. I watched several of the videos to see if he ignored him in others. By then I was interested and it didn't take me long to find out about the harmonizing.

There is certainly some editing on the CD, listen to Temptation, it has backing vocals which are not on the video. and they only sang temptation on the first night of the reunion,(I know coz I was there) so it must be the same performance.

The phrasing (I think) was more Kentucky Bluegrass on this particular cut. I think I’m the original, they were paying homage and giving a nod to that phrasing in the original studio cut. Sounds so cool. I can remember being two years old and standing mesmerized by this and all EB music.

Hard to believe that this Reunion is 25 years ago this year. Ik bought the VHS of it early 1989. Always annoyed how terribly false the intro to "Let it be me" was. I now have the concert on DVD. The intro is however still out of tune.

I hated it when they "slopped" all over the meter of their tunes. Who's idea was that anyway?
