Trucking companies tell you that having a bad relationship with someone at home can be an emotional driving distraction. The driver facing cameras are like having a bad distance relationship with someone who is judging your every move for reasons to fire you and is a complete driving distraction.

It depends on who is interpreting the recording. Saved me … New tractor was not set up properly . Two radars and camera were not set properly. Truck launched itself into a red light . I had to STOMP on the brakes to prevent an accident. Roll stock shifted . Recording proofed it was the truck . A I is not ready for prime time .

CRST just started putting driver facing cameras in their trucks. We were told that the cameras would only record us in the case of an “event”. I thought an “event” would be an accident or hard breaking incident or what not. Wrong. It tracks eye movement, body movement, and reports to corporate any time you are doing anything except looking straight ahead and driving. I just gave them notice that our working relationship is soon coming to an end. I will not be micromanaged like that. Been in the industry for over 20 years. Way too many employment options out there for me to deal with that.

Best decision I ever made was leaving Crete . I work for a small mom and pop make way more money Take off anytime I want and I have the owners personal cell number. I have a regular ole out facing dashcam and I'm cool with that but I will not be watched or listened too while I drive.

First off, I am not a professional truck driver. I did however work in the trucking industry for several years, got to know many of the titans who built up these trucking companies into large fleets who started with one truck. I have a great respect for everyone that can amazingly navigate these big rigs across our highways safely year after year. I haven't seen comments to this point but I think it's worth mentioning: Inward facing cameras I feel could be just as much a distraction for a driver who feels they are being surveilled all the tiime. In our neighborhood we have lots of red light cameras and I see people doing stupid things so that they don't make the cameras flash and record a violation. I also think that computers and cameras and recording data creates a situation where, as many have mentioned here, the companies feel they have to CYA every possible risk (where often unexpected things happen but nothing bad results from it) and drivers have to now be superhuman perfect without one screw-up to mar their driving record. Just way too much scrutiny. You cannot have a world of perfection and zero mistakes. Just my two cents, good buddies. Keep on trucking!

I have my own forward facing camera. I really like having proof in case something happens. Who would tolerate this invasion of privacy? What a horrible company to work for. You know how they get away with this? Because the drivers let them get away with it. If all the drivers said F U, I'm not driving with a camera pointing at me, they wouldn't have a choice but to remove it.
@TheJoyofTrucking

Yes, forward facing cameras are a very good safety measure. As for inward facing, Crete decides on the time frame of putting them in trucks, depending on a new driver's level of experience and driving record. A driver can always choose to not work for them if that is a deal breaker. But we decided it was worth having it up for two months in exchange for all the benefits reaped by working for Crete. So far we are very happy, as Kevin's income has gone up by 50%.

It's monitoring 24/7 don't be fooled by what your company people tell you, it's a sure way to throw a driver under the bus and keep the company free of liability in case of an accident.... If you quit tomorrow, you would be replaced the next day, they wouldn't miss a beat... I've been driving for 34 years and I just recently joined ACT Trucking and I have to say I hate the camera and it is causing me anxiety, I'm completely taken out of my normal routine of trucking and put into a prison-like situation being monitored 24/7, I hate to be a job Hopper but I'm not sure how long I can operate under these circumstances

Hi guys, I worked for a company that told me the same things about the camera's. The 3rd party company has to show their worth to the company so they would pick us apart, day in and day out! I didn't mind the out facing cameras and even the rear cameras but the one facing me started giving me anxiety issues after we figured out they were doing! watching every move i made. i don't even like people watching me sneeze. much less if i have a scratch somewhere! They would get me even if I forgot to look in my mirrors every 8 seconds. The police are bad enough, but were nothing compared to having to deal with that.

Cameras can save you in court if you are not at fault. They are damning if you are “possibly” at fault and that 15-20 second blip doesn’t always show the whole picture. And at some trucking companies they are a very good harassment tool for ever single minor infraction. I understand a company wanting a forward facing camera to cover themselves in a lawsuit, but most drivers with any experience, especially those that drove for many years with no one arm chair quarterbacking their driving abilities through cameras will tolerate camera harassment. They’ll straight up go somewhere else. I would say company harassment about how you drive and going home when they want to is the number one reason drivers look to lease or be an O/O. Most don’t want to become a big carrier with other drivers. They just want to bring home decent money and be left alone.

@@aedryk A inward facing camera can prove you were not on your phone, texting, watching KZbin, asleep at the wheel, distracted, etc but it can also show these things. It can damn you or exonerate you from those type of accusations. The reality is, that a significant portion of accidents are caused due to the things I mentioned above and inward facing cameras will rat you out. Outside of those facts, most large companies are using them to harass drivers attention and driving. No driver is 100% attentive at all times of every day and it’s annoying to be harassed about it. Anyone that can be aware of everything going on around them 100% of the time, day in day out without a second of distraction is Superman or a liar.

If the camera was just for traffic incidents they wouldn't have it on a 60 day timer. That doesn't make sense. It's clearly being used as a monitoring device to check new driver activity. No problems with a dash cam, but if I'm going to be living in my truck for weeks and months on end, you're not putting a camera facing me 24/7. That's a bridge too far. Truckers already deal with enough bullshit without being recorded 24/7. We're employees, not inmates. Furthermore the only purpose of a driver facing camera is to condemn you. Unlike a dash cam it will never absolve you of anything, it can only be used to incriminate.

I can tell you 100% that SOME companies are monitoring your phone calls etc. via the cameras. I worked for a hot shot company that installed forward and rear facing cameras in every single truck that ran under their authority and we are all owner operators. All the dispatchers have access to them and the video pops up when they open your driver number on the board (at least it did where I was at). I saw a driver get called it once during the Covid panic over having his mask off when he left HIS truck. Most of these guys are in their personally owned pickups too and they forbid drivers from disconnecting them on off time or vacations. They are monitoring what and where drivers go on off time and abusing the cameras. I don't see how it is even legal but this is what happens when you allow everyone in the company access to watch the cameras.

No problem. Just reading some of the comments people love to hate these cameras. I drive for a company that has driver facing cameras and guess what? I’m still there. When the truck is off for longer than 5 minutes, the camera is off as the green light is no longer illuminated. Just to make sure I cover it with electrical tape. People who truly have issues with these cameras are usually the ones who are doing something that they aren’t supposed to be doing. If you spent millions of dollars on your equipment you’d want to make sure you aren’t spending more fixing it because someone isn’t respecting your equipment. We seriously live in a world where cameras are everywhere. Like who cares really? Kind of reminds me of the same people who cover license plate numbers on pictures when they are selling their car as if it has personal information attached to it. 😂😂

We don't think that that is an inward facing camera. The inward/outward camera is mounted as we showed it in the video. The Detroit Assurance is a "suite of Advanced Driver Assist Systems" specifically for Freightliner Cascadias. It uses radar and high definition camera systems (outward facing) to communicate with the ABS, engine, and transmission in real-time. If it's the 5.0 model it can track up to 40 objects, identify the top 6 threats, and refresh 200 times per second. It has an Active Break Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Tailgate Warning, and other features. Basically it is intended to support the driver in staying safe. Doesn't seem to us like it would record video footage for later review :-)

Yeah been driving 20 years this month. Been in crst day cab for the past 4. They put in cameras a few months ago. Like it's been said, that camera has the ability to report your every move. Take a hand off the steering wheel to grab something it reports you. It's constantly going off. It dings me for all kinds of things when I'm in facilities that are just normal daily occurences. Now safety has some discretion on what to give you points on. But yeah. Crst wants robots at the wheel. I just drive and if they don't want me they can fire me. But these cameras, the way they use them is crappy. I agree with if there's an incident or accident review the video. But they have multiple people that do not much else than judge me from 5 hours away.

Managers or dispatchers that monitor these lytx cameras have a "live view" option . the camera itself records constantly but never uploads until there is an event , i.e going around a turn faster than 15 mph or hard braking. If you work for a company that uses lytx drive cam which is what this guy has , and they tell you they can not watch you while you drive , that is a straight up lie . Either be constantly monitored and recorded while at work for an OTR company , or switch to a daycab local service and just be monitored while you're in their truck. Most companies have both inward and outward facing cameras and the newest ones have AI which communicate with the PCM and hit the brakes if you get too close to a vehicle in front of you that's not maintaining the same speed as you are going. These are mostly by Samsara and are constantly rating your driving habits and reporting back to the company , which can be good or bad .

Hope to meet you at a terminal some day!

@@keenanmiller6231 Hey Keenan! Yes! Great meeting you today!! We are so happy to know our videos were helpful!! We hope you have a great career here at Crete! It’s still trucking of course 😉😆 so never perfect, but we are very happy here and meet a lot of drivers who have been with Crete a long time. And that’s always a very good sign! Hope you have a good orientation! Hopefully we can talk more another time…we’d like to know on what beach your photo is taken. 😆😆😆 And it’s not too late to give them SLOKEV. Or email us your name and phone number and we can submit it. We’d be very grateful! It’s a great way to support our channel. 😃

So 2 things, 1. i used you ref. Code at crete. 2. Those cameras Record constantly I know this because at the concrete company I used to work for they had those same brand same type cameras in their mixer trucks and the guy that was in charge of them showed me that they record constantly because that’s just the type of camera that it is and yes he showed me with multiple drivers at the time he logged into their camera feed and was watching them drive and I saw this with my own two eyes so I do not trust those cameras especially the ones crete uses because they are the exact same

Exactly, the whole 10 second thing is just the alert that safety/dispatch gets alerted to for a review,if they need more footage it will be there.

Hey there!!! First of all…Thank You!!! We really appreciate that you used our code!!!! And how exciting you are coming over. I think we might see a few Werner drivers make that switch. The mikes and money for OTR are just so much better!!! Second…crazy about the camera story. We know they have to record constantly, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to get the video from just before an event. Didn’t know someone can look at them all. Hmmmm?!? Either way…we are fine with it for 2 months because of what it got us…a much better pay check. 😃 And thirdly….great job on your channel! You are putting up a lot of content and continually improving! That’s great! And…your going to make Artemis a star! 😃😃😃 Can’t wait to meet you both in person!!

This is all the pretext for driverless trucks. They need to catch us screwing up behind the wheel. Just look at all the technology on that truck. There's only just a couple of components away from making a driver less.

Cameras don't bother me. I'm going to do my job regardless. The front facing Camera, I think, is a great idea. I believe all trucking companies should have them. Some, not all, 4 wheel drivers like to play games with Truckers. The ones that do, I believe have a death wish. Why would anyone in their right mind "Brake check" a semi? They have NO clue what your carrying in that box. Let alone the weight. Like I say, "Death Wish" Maybe we should resurrect Charles Bronson just for that. 😆 🤣

Yes. The Break Check videos we’ve seen online have definitely contributed to our desire for a forward facing camera. Thanks for your comment!
