Oh, the whole "in medieval Europe they too married their girls off at the age of 12 and 9!" and proceed to list a bunch of princesses. The princes and princesses WERE A SPECIAL CASE SCENARIO! The princes and princesses were married off in a VERY SPECIFIC CONTEXT, only because their King fathers wanted alliances. Kinda like: Spain and France are in war, and Spain is losing. Spanish King needs military support, so he approaches King of Portugal and asks for it. He needs to provide something to him of course, so he may offer money or crops, but, to "lock down" the alliance, he offers to marry their kids. The Spanish King has a 13 year old boy and an 11 year old girl and the Portuguese King had a married daughter and a 19 year old son. So, they marry off the 19yo and the 11yo and "seal the deal". This kind of agreements are depicted in a hilarious episode of season 1 of "BlackAdder" series. With the exception of royalty and maybe some aristocrats/nobles, literally no other girl was married off that young. Girls were at least 13-14 usually. In ancient Greece (that goes waaaaaaay before medieval times), girls were married off at around 16 and boys 18-19. And I know that because I am Greek!

It is said that Jesus said "Talita, Kum" (Aramaic, meaning "O child/kid, wake up") and the child woke up because he was already 12 years old. It is clear that that age is a child's age, and is called "Talita", because that is the age of a child. So having sex with children was clearly an immoral act even at the time of Jesus Christ. United States Of America Laws of 1880 the age of consent were set at 10 or 12 in most states. With the exception of Delaware where it was age 7. Muhammad death was 632 AD from 1880 work it out. It's unfair to judge any religion on the basis of one man's interpretation (rather misinterpretation) of scripture. The verse in question 65:4 does not refer to "pre-pubescent" women - it simply refers to women who might not be menstruating for a variety of reasons (this is common knowledge for any woman). No where does the Qur'an allow marriage for children. Readiness for marriage in 4:6 is indicated when a young person reaches the age of "sound judgement" ie maturity of mind. As for your reference to the Prophet's marriage to Aisha, it's based on hearsay stories known as hadith written some 300 years afterwards. Please refrain from spreading false rumors about Islam.

This is considered a gross sin or setting partnership with God. Majority of countries that allow marriage under the age of 16 are Christian countries (eg Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Principe) where priests have the highest authority.
