@corbinm52374 жыл бұрын
@Devil Goat the age argument goes much deeper than simply that “he’s better because he’s older” because if you compare artists at the same ages then you can tell whether or not they are better due to age and experience or if one artist would’ve just always been ahead of the other artist. For example,Mario Duplantier from Gojira was writing drum parts at 19-26 that were more complex and creative than anything The Rev ever did in his life. So Mario was always ahead of The Rev. But in contrast,Lars Ulrich from Metallica is in his 50’s and he never got to the level of drumming The Rev got to. I’m not saying that Brooks has always been better than The Rev or anything like that. I never listened to Bad Religion or any of the previous bands Brooks was in so I can’t really say. But I’m just saying I don’t think the age argument is as simple as the way you’re using it.

here's my in-depth take from the video, as well as things I have learned over the years: One of the first things I noticed listening to this was that the rev's drumming sounds so "natural" his kick patterns on these tracks sound so clean and tight, yet don't sound forced or "hesitant", almost like he was part of his instrument, though the tracks from his last couple albums were tight, I did feel a slight bit of hesitation/inconsistency compared to the others, which would make a bit of sense, considering that's when his health really started to catch up with him, and the drugs/alcohol use started to dramatically increase... hearing Mike Portnoy's tracks, they sound pretty tight as well, but if you listen real close, there is a small hint of discomfort/hesitation in his playing, which is to be expected emulating another style of drumming, almost like how anybody can forge your signature, but theirs will never be a match to yours under a microscope, I personally like the nightmare album, as well as mike's drumming in DT! I mean, the endurance required to play songs sometimes being over 10 minutes long and full of polyrhythms has gotta be astronomical! I have been listening to nightmare since it came out when I was 10 years old, and have been delving deeper in recent years as I have come to realize that the album was completed in honor of the rev's career/legacy... brooks is pretty good, though I'm not all that familiar with their newer content. Arin though, he was capable of a lot more than the band gave him credit for... The rev's drumming was just really good, and there is just something about the way his playing "flows" that I've never heard in anyone else... RIP

In fact, Portnoy was one of Rev's influences. Wackerman showcased a plethora of his skills in one album with A7x, that dude is technical af, like Portnoy. in term of technicality brooks is by far the best drummer but in the terms of songwriting the rev is the best. i felt like arin was left unappreciated cause how the band want's arin to play became "this is the best arin could do" which is false and he did his job.
@KevinLuWX4 жыл бұрын
Portnoy is probably the best in terms of songwriting, but he was just mostly following The Rev's demo in nightmare.

Alright mad respect to the rev and you comment pretty on point. But the rev didn't created A7X, I understand you mean he made the band in a sense. sure but he didnt created avenged. Matt and Zacky created avenged and both the rev and syn turn them down at frist. Cause they were bad appreally.

This was a really cool vid! I will say that Arin got shafted with the parts he had during his brief stint in A7X. He’s an incredible drummer, but unfortunately most people don’t know that because of the direction the band went for that one album.
@shawntholo777asmr94 жыл бұрын
A thing I had noticed about The Rev’s style of drumming is that he is simple yet doesn’t over kill a beat which makes it heavy and groovy at the same time. Arins drumming is very stripped and too simple but that’s what Avenged wanted at that time. Brooks is very very complex and sometimes I miss the simplicity of drumming that old avenged sevenfold had. I love them all and they added character to A7X. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

I'm not sure what they were thinking bringing on Arin in the first place. Jimmy was special because every single track he played was unique and interesting. I could hear just the drum part from most of their early songs and tell you what it was. Arin sounded like level 1 at Drumeo. For some bands, that's what the sound calls for. I think Brooks was a great new direction.

@@HughWanztino Of coarse he made the correct choice. I like Avenged Sevenfold. I LOVE Bad Religion, but at the end of the day, Brooks has been very open about wanting to do metal years before the switch, and he deserves to pursue his own dreams, without regard to public opinion. That's my view on it.

Arin was simple because the band agreed to be simple for Hail To The King. I'm not sure if Arin performed in the COD Zombies songs but it shows off his skill in those songs pretty well.

People need to get off Arin's back. His drums sounded simple but if that's what the songs called for it makes sense. Plus, Hail to the King is by far their worst album, other than the guitar on a few songs it's pretty damn forgettable.

I look at hail to the king as a tribute to their inspirations. I actually liked every song on the album which I actually can't say about any of their other albums. It's very listenable. Might not have been as mind blowing as the older stuff but it felt like a delicious treat to me. You ever write a riff and realize there's already one kind of like it? I believe Synyster had tons and he crafted it into hail to the king. Was a little unfair to do to Arin tho.
