Jerome never did what he wanted to do. After the police beat him down, he wanted out the game but stayed in because Franklin needed him. He didn't want to cross Franklin, but he went along because of Louie

Cissy was also protecting Franklin. She realised teddy truly isn’t to be trusted (potentially won’t give back money and will say/do anything to get out of what trouble he’s in) and holds deep grudges even when you are no longer his threat (I.e Altons death despite him moving to Cuba and vowing to keep silent) thus cissy attempted to protect Franklin by killing him. I do think she also had a selfish value in this when she realised Franklin only cares abt the money, she wanted to strip the thing making him spiral but ultimately made him spiral more, but to that point Franklin spiral is still his own fault imp

His mother did him wrong the most. She accepted the man he became, even enjoyed some of the spoils of his riches. While Franklin's actions did ultimately cost her the lives of Alton, Jerome and the broken relationship with Franklin himself, she decided that her loneliness would come with company. She lost her true love, which was family. Franklin lost his true love, which was money. Had Teddy not killed Alton, Franklin gets his money.

@@KeithAdams-o3b The great thing about Snowfall is that none of the major characters came out in the end with a clean ledger. But at the same time what motivated their fuckups was also compelling. There are multiple scenes, or parts of scenes where if you observe a character's behaviour, it explains their later foibles quite clearly. That's some good-ass writing.
