Mostly every report I see on this topic also states the wampa attack was not in an effort to explain his facial feature changes, and that wampas were part of the story from the start (referencing also the deleted scene with C3PO/troopers)

I say this with total sincerity-Mark Hammill has been one of the cornerstones of my life. As a kid, "The Last Jedi" was my favorite film. In 1990, at 2 years old for my 1st Christmas I got a Batman shirt with a Cape, cause my dad already knew my love for the dark knight before I could use a toliet. When I watched Batman:TAS, he was & still is my favorite character. I dont know who else I'd be honestly without his influence in my youth. Thank you guys, for giving this man the tribute he deserves. ...now if you did one on Tim Curry my life would be complete!!! THANK YOU NOW THIS NERD!!!!

So epic, the wompa fight. The last Jedi was way better then force awakens, but mostly because Hamill talked about jedi philosophy itself and cause he himself slowed the movie down, like 4,5,&,6. The prequals were so much action and cgi, it just nice to hear a familiar voice who knows what a good movie is. STORY.

The real Mark Hamill died after Star Wars was filmed. George Lucas wanted it kept secret because the following Star Wars films would not be as popular with someone else playing Luke Skywalker. So they found a better actor, but didn't even have the same nose as the real Hamill.
