I remember being absolutely obsessed with Minecraft horror. The amount of nostalgia I felt when I saw Entity 303, Null, Herobrine, John, and the Killer Bunny, was insane. I miss those times 😭😭

I still remember not being able to sleep when I was little because I was actually afraid of Herobrine occurring in real life. I was afraid to even join my worlds if I thought they were haunted by him. That's how much he scared the sh*t out of me, haha!

Love the classic horror in the game especially where you could be mining or crafting something and then suddenly you wonder if perhaps you have heard or seen something lurking in the background just before or after you hear the blocks break. What more funny is that this kind of subtle horror where the thought that you might not be alone is especially prevalent in real life for example working late night shifts and it is only you on the job. Also that at guy at 3:19 sounded a lot like Patrick from SpongeBob 🌊

I remember a time in I think 2018 -2020 when there was a wave of Minecraft horror content that featured "Red Steve" and "Green Steve" and so on. They literally just gave Steve a single color and turned it into a Herobrine-like horror character. There used to be so many of these "... Steve is haunting my world" videos on KZbin until they had made Steves in every possible color.

can i just say that null was like, my childhood trauma technically. for some reason, whenever i don't take my adhd pills, i would have often hallucinations and most especially in mc bcz i was so terrified of null and kept having hallucinations of null being in my singleplayer worlds (occasionally servers but i wasn't rlly on servers a lot). i still do sometimes get hallucinations of this guy but ik now that he's not real so yeah

you know what sucks? that, that herobrine stream might very well be completely lost besides screenshots... but my thought process is that, surely SOMEONE would have recorded it..? thats the only real hope in my eyes. maybe if soneone can atest that they saw a recirding of it somewhere, maybe it has a small chance of resurfacing. as for patimuss the odds are even lower, but still there.

Minecraft horror has evolved from entities that break space and tome and target you in real life, to simply in-game creatures. The former is very eerie and threatening, but the second one also be terrifying if executed right. But I think I prefer the former, it's alot more subtle than the latter. It's unpredictable unlike spooky creatures, they usually lash out at you and... That's basically it for most Minecraft horror mods. Most have no build up at all and play all of their cards too early, while old Minecraft horror usually has long build-up and subtle scares.

John was not mediocre. It is much better than all of the oogeyboogies bloating Minecraft now. A thing that bothers me the most about these "horror" mods is that they all look the exact same. Big KZbinr thumbnail mouth with a generic/uninspired creepypasta design. The textures are also pretty bad to the point where the Codfish or Rabbit have more detail than ones like Man From the Fog or Midnight Stalker.

John is better from a gameplay perspective. He is not a random "you lose button" like all of these new mods. His stats are comparable to an Enderman, unlike all of the new mods that treat the mobs like a Mary Sue DeviantArt OC. The One Who Watches primarily received their buffs, because the creator was upset/offended by Forge Labs making fun of its bad AI. I am also sure that all of the MC textures are made in MS Paint, but John does have a very crude texture. However, there is a reboot of the John mod that makes the textures look more like Jappa's style.@@tinmanne
