Amusing that in the Empire at War mods (since these made the big ships much more available versus the main game), dropping a Star Dreadnought in was a near automatic win again anything other than another Star Dreadnought. To some extent, this shows the limits of a closed map - the slow maneuverability of a Dreadnought is not as big a deal when the map size is limited, but it was actually still possible to take out a even an Executor or even an Eclipse with something like Strike Cruisers warping in behind hit. It would still be expensive in terms of losses, but you'd still spend a lot less than the Dreadnought you killed. More interestingly for me, it showed the effectiveness of Dreadnoughts when hitting slow or static targets. Using a scout unit, then warping in a SSD onto of a space station, or even a more robust support fleet, was super effective. In general, I don't know how much this applies to planetary defense (modern and future), but when it comes to space, ships that can give out and take a massive beating come into their own when the enemy can no longer retreat, and have to take a stand to defend a planet. Drop a SSD on them, and unless they have their own, this becomes an immediate problem. Per the point of this portion of the video, I think it shows that you don't want a ton of Dreadnoughts, at least in a more mobile war, but a solid course of the vessels to deploy as needed can be invaluable.

Well some Rebel genius will probably develop a Cyber Truck Wing that can fly through shields at hyper speed and just take out a dreadnought.

Have any fans managed find a believable explaination for the weird time scales in SW? (ie the way a single company can last for 25,000 years, and technology barely develops at all for 10's of thousands of years and then all of a sudden it accelerates for around a century, and then randomly stagnates for another few millennia.) Tbh I think Lucas didn't really grasp the vast time scale and the vast populations.
@ChiefBret4 ай бұрын
I think I've seen a video about that where there was some kind of lore explanation about it being technology kind of evolving in cycles or something. But yeah in reality I think it was just wanting to explore different times, but keeping the same star wars looks/tech, so they just kept similar ships and technology.
@SomeTheorist90904 ай бұрын
Can you explain how humans millions of years walked? Then, for thousands of years, only uses horses.... Then, they had a jump of using cars and other technology over about 100 years. Then, after WW3, in 2027, went back to horses and walking?
@josephedmond37233 ай бұрын
@SomeTheorist9090 Yeah, I think the thing about high tech is that it's high maintenance. Modern smart weapons need specialized technology and people to build them where as a spear will always have the relative effectiveness of a spear. There comes a point where people just say "if it ain't broke don't fix it." I'm sure that logic applies in the Star Wars universe.
@papapalps24153 ай бұрын
Because SW doesn't actually develop technologically in any real or meaningful ways bar niche or minute improvements; they more or less reached their apex or zenith thousands of years ago, at least so far as they are concerned. And that's perfectly fine; trying to pretend like as if the RL technological advancement we have been experiencing for the past hundred or 2 hundred years is the norm, even in fictional universe's, or is even sustainable FORRAAVAHH, is delusional.

If I was going to spend the credits to make multiple SSD I’d design these ships to be able to dock up to 6 SD so if there damaged then the massive ship can carry all the materials needed to repair a fleet of SD. Also this SSD used as ships to go into newly mapped systems in unknown space and can carry enough supplies for the crew on my ship but also able to restock my fleet. That’s definitely one good thing for the First Order and there massive SSDN able to act as a movable base of operations and able to build SD and any other ships they needed.

Mon Mothma: " We cannot crew it " Talon Karrde: "Hold my 🍺, and my dice." Why scrap it? Why subsidize it? Saddle the bill for upkeep to the private sector! There is ANOTHER Y-Wing variant, used by Princess Leia as a personal Courier vessel, much larger than the starfighter, with internal cabins and a commuter aircraft style side access stair. Featured in Marvel comic's "The Last Jedi" (no relation) adventure. Basically the princess' Space Learjet for diplomatic and espionage missions. Of the Xwing series I still reserve love for the T-65:XJA (Jedi Advanced) upgrade of Legends fame and the Shadow Fighters. The only good things to come out of the Vong War.

I was learning about Jin roh and how the front focus armour, as well as inspirating fear, has only frontal protection to emphasize teamwork to cover their backs. Somehow this reminds me of the star destroyer, where the only way to protect the capital ship was to co-ordinate the fighter cover or have a ship in the back to deter larger ships from targeting the exposed engines. Just a thought.

@stuglife55144 ай бұрын
Yes that was always a thing, but more of a back up. Astromechs are busy optimizing all your subsystems. So if your gunner is say, incapacitated, yes the Astro mech can take over, but it wasn’t their primary job. Now, on layer Y wings the cut out the human gunner and only used an atromech for that, which started with rebel modified Y wings

The term dreafnaught comes from the HMS Dreadnaught (which when you look at the name means fear not, what it’s supposed to make its allies do). It was a battleship
@stuglife55144 ай бұрын
Yea but it was a new class of ship when she came out basically, the “all big gun ship”, as the ships that came before her are known as “pre dreadnaughts” and her era of ships are known as “dreadnaughts”
@stuglife55144 ай бұрын
Battleship is less of a type of ship, and more of the era/role the ship played. When most navies had predreadnaught battleships, and you had a fleet of dreadnaught battleships, that was a massive advantage. Dreadnaughts were larger then any other battleships, and more powerful by extension. Then you have super dreadnaughts, absolute behemoths…but yea, battleship is a very lose term. It’s like saying “customer service” when in the role of customer service you could be a cashier, operating a phone line, etc. the term battleship is more like a family of classes of ships.
@Nightguardian12 күн бұрын
The video compares the TIE fighter to the Japanese Zero. Consider, perhaps, a comparison with the Messerschmidt Me163 Komet. The Komet was a short range rocket powered interceptor with a hugely powerful engine but not much else. The wheels fell away from it as it took off and it landed on skids. Like with the TIE fighter's utilization of solar panels to power its electronics, the Komet utilized a little wind turbine to power its panel. Could the Me163 have been the inspiration for the TIE?

Where did the idea that the wedge shaped ship was originally a Sith idea? The earliest I know of is the Interdictor-class cruiser and it's a Republic design, and so is the immediately following Centurion-class battlecruiser. If anything, it was the True Sith Empire that stole the idea from the Republic after seeing Revan's Interdictors and Centurions. And with practical reason beyond their usual perversion of Republic symbols (like the later Star Destroyers and Mandator-class dreadnoughts, those were Republic designs that Sidious' Empire co-opted), if the Republic had trounced the First Sith Empire in space then why not copy their designs?
