Just wanted to thank you for mentioning that many traditionally herbivorous animals do eat small animals and insects when they can get it. I think that it's important to remember that animals will opportunistically eat whatever they can digest at times. It always makes me wonder more about how transitions between dietary habits happen.

You have no idea how right you actually are, since paleontologists believe therizinosaurs are more closely related to tyrannosaurs than other dinosaurs

That's a good observation, evolution is driven by niches, so it very well may have filled the opposite niche within the ecosystems it lived in - even being related to Trex subfamily. Therizinosaur was likely a main food source for a lot of predators, there was probably a lot of them judging from how often their fossils show up, and they seemed to be highly adaptive to their surroundings. These were some very cool and important creatures! :D

Interesting theory. We often see big claws like that used for digging or hanging from branches. Have any dinosaurs been identified as insect eating? If not that would be highly unusual and therefore likely something missed or overlooked. You'd also expect dino to have long tongue or different mouth structure like other convergent ant eating animals - i would think the tongue is possible.

It would be amazing to see Therozinosaurus or any therozinsaurid for that matter in the new JW dominion film to introduce this unique family of dinosaurs to the general public this could also show off some proper feathers. Also you make a video talking about Deinocheirus since it’s also another unique dinosaur especially compared to its other relatives of Ornithomimusauria & seemly convergently evolved traits similar to therozinosaurus.

GGW I often find the early paleontological classifications to be very cute. Without anything else to go on, they just had to take modern day animals & apply a type from there. You can’t blame em, really. If I was faced with the limited information of those claws, I probably would’ve come up with something quite similar. Or some form of dinosaur sloth 🤣

Therizinosaurs are my favourite group of dinosaurs, from way back when I knew them as Segnosaurs. They were so weird, and no-one knew where they fitted in, either in dino evolution, or ecologically. there was even speculation that they were specialised insect eaters, feeding on the early evolutions of social insects. Somehow, a thirty foot, multi tonne dino ant-eater had massive appeal for me!

Therizinosaurids have always been fascinating to me. When first discovered, only the giant clawed arms were featured in National Geographic. I thought it was a massive, t-rex like theropod with big arms. It's amazing years later that yes, they were theropods, but with odd, sauropod-like traits, that were herbivores, not carnivores.

His claws couldn't be weapons, as often believed ... His fingers were too small and fragile and the slightest slap for scratching a large theropod would have broken or torn off its fingers, due to the leverage effect of these long claws on the joints of its hands and arms .... In fact these claws probably only served as a sort of comb to rake the leaves on, which it ate ..
