Just wanted to thank you for mentioning that many traditionally herbivorous animals do eat small animals and insects when they can get it. I think that it's important to remember that animals will opportunistically eat whatever they can digest at times. It always makes me wonder more about how transitions between dietary habits happen.

That's a good observation, evolution is driven by niches, so it very well may have filled the opposite niche within the ecosystems it lived in - even being related to Trex subfamily. Therizinosaur was likely a main food source for a lot of predators, there was probably a lot of them judging from how often their fossils show up, and they seemed to be highly adaptive to their surroundings. These were some very cool and important creatures! :D

Interesting theory. We often see big claws like that used for digging or hanging from branches. Have any dinosaurs been identified as insect eating? If not that would be highly unusual and therefore likely something missed or overlooked. You'd also expect dino to have long tongue or different mouth structure like other convergent ant eating animals - i would think the tongue is possible.

Also you make a video talking about Deinocheirus since it’s also another unique dinosaur especially compared to its other relatives of Ornithomimusauria & seemly convergently evolved traits similar to therozinosaurus.

Therizinosaurs are my favourite group of dinosaurs, from way back when I knew them as Segnosaurs. They were so weird, and no-one knew where they fitted in, either in dino evolution, or ecologically. there was even speculation that they were specialised insect eaters, feeding on the early evolutions of social insects. Somehow, a thirty foot, multi tonne dino ant-eater had massive appeal for me!

Therizinosaurids have always been fascinating to me. When first discovered, only the giant clawed arms were featured in National Geographic. I thought it was a massive, t-rex like theropod with big arms. It's amazing years later that yes, they were theropods, but with odd, sauropod-like traits, that were herbivores, not carnivores.

They kind of reminded me of panda's of the dinosaurs. Panda's evolved to be herbivores from past carnivorous bear like creatures.

Out of all of them, Nothronychus is my favourite, mainly because it was the first one I saw because of Planet Dinosaur, and plus it was also pretty cool seeing it owning those Suskityrannus 's.

He was also in when dinosaurs roamed America. Fun fact Nothronychus remains were mistaken to belong to the ground sloth nothroteriops but then it was proof that it was a dinosaur. Nothronychus also means sloth claw

I love how despite not being predators the therizinosaurs were just as badass as the other theropods with their giant claws, while also somehow being way cuddlier with their plump, fluffy potbellies.

His claws couldn't be weapons, as often believed ... His fingers were too small and fragile and the slightest slap for scratching a large theropod would have broken or torn off its fingers, due to the leverage effect of these long claws on the joints of its hands and arms .... In fact these claws probably only served as a sort of comb to rake the leaves on, which it ate ..

Nothronychus is one of my favourite dinosaurs I didn't know existed, until I watched a dinosaur documentary as a kid. Thanks to that documentary, I will always imagine that Nothronychus looked like "a half plucked turkey" and that it walked "like a potbellied bear".
