off topic but it really baffles me how ulthuan has the most missile unit unfriendly maps in the game. imagine a faction whos known for that, chooses battles where most of their military is useless.

It's just as bad for gun-heavy factions that start near there like the Dreadfleet. On top of that, most of the ocean maps are just as terrible: full of trees, hills, and cliffs.

There's a map a lot like this in Kislev as well, where there's a pocket tucked away behind a mounatin, and the only way to get there is through a narrow pass. Makes defending against Chaos a lot easier, cos they can only come at you through a kill-zone.

Even better is that the pass is on a slope, so you can claim the high ground and force the enemy into the choke point. One of my Chorf caravans was ambushed on that map, claimed the pass and my Dreadquake waited for them to enter the kill zone.

This was my submission. I've played a lot of Warhammer and never noticed this map before. Was not looking forward to the upcoming battle until I realized the advantage the map provided.

I also inadvertently found this map spot while playing a wood elf campaign. It is absolutely one of the most easily defensibly and op spots you can use for magic and single lord holding. Enemy archers tends to charge into combat, enemy artillery is practically useless, there is no flanking, end zone right next door, you can use like 1 infantry unit to hold the line as the passageway is so narrow (along with some sort of lord), vortex spells tend to go where you want it to as the passageway is so narrow unless your very unlucky, and if the enemy units are defending it gives you a chance to go around the exclamation point to the spot before you lure enemy with some magic spells or kiting.

Tip for anyone playing cathay! There is another ungodly chokepoint on the Northern side of the river crossing bridge by Hanyu Port. I was fighting off max difficulty endgame crisis armies from Ghorst 4 at a time and absolutely annihilating them. Just have a melee army in encamp, reinforced by a ranged army (Sky junks are OP on this map as long as you can protect them from terrorgheists)

I hate how the AI always sends flying units into obvious suicide missions instead of coordinating their attacks with the rest of the army in a way that makes sense

Yeah this map is cursed. One time i couldnt find my enemy on this map, another time the enemy had one unit that i couldnt reach or shoot stuck inside a rock on the mountain slope. Both times i spend well over an hour trying.

I remember this map coming to my rescue in a Norsca campaign where I was outnumbered and they brought all sorts of dragons and chariots and cavalry, and just funneling them through the gap between the line and the dot of the exclamation point was enough to handle them. Going all the way up in that corner is bonkers.

This map! It saved my noctilus campaign when I got hit by 3 full armies, unable to win with a poop-stack, but I just spammed spells on huuuuuge blobs in the crevice and killed like 2k+ units with spells alone!

"Oh no, we cant all get to the enemy in a proper formation because of this green glowing line is blocking us!" Never quite liked this arbitrary limiting of maps, but its really silly in this case

Facts: They should do huge maps with natural barriers(mountains, rivers, Cliffside, ocean etc) , but units take long lasting leadership penalties the farther away from the main force and general they are, too far away and they route. I think it's worth a shot to see how it plays vs this imaginary line.

I like this idea but depending on the natural barriers, you could run your entire army without taking the leadership hit. Also it might not make sense to have every battle field surrounded by impassable terrain - how did the armies get there in the first place? Then there's the technical/performance aspect to it.

There's also a map in the Sylvania set where you can park your army around a bend in this hill and the enemy will ALWAYS go around the hill and get bunched up on the corner so badly you can wipe about half their army with one spell. CA please don't fix, it's the only thing that makes fighting Vlad bearable.

The problem with that spot is how close our own units are to the edge of the map. Because of that I preffer to use choke point at our own army placement zone so my units will have some space to regroup. I did just that while playing as Warhost of Apocalypse and I had this map at least 3 times in my campaign with no issue to win since there were too much trees blocking HE arrows anyway.

this definitely looks like a map thats shifted too far to the right and the background scenery is part of the battlefield, usually the big castles are outside the map and there arent such dense forests outside of wood elf settlements in most cases

This is not nearly as badly broken as when the game puts your entire deployment zone inside impassable map features. A while back playing as Tzeentch in the Southern Chaos Wastes, I played a map there where the game literally put the deployment zone in such a way that my ground forces didn't have valid deployment locations - they were forced to just stay where initially deployed, practically underneath the map. Only thing that saved that fight was having Fateweaver in the army, who, thankfully, could deploy anywhere on top of the impassable terrain due to having flight and could solo the enemy army on his own using magic. Kind of a terrible thing to happen on Legendary difficulty.

Since you're on the topic the beastmen heardstone map is also pretty broken at the moment. A lot of dead areas you can't click to select your own troops or target enemies. Most notable on the right most barrier node. Was a constant pain in the beastmen campaign I just finished.

Had 1 Wood Elf army lead by Durthu, all dryads tree kin and treemen with one life mage hero. Held that gap in the exclamation point for height advantage against 4 high elf armies. I think I had 180 casualties, mostly dryads of course.

Not just the AI pathing that's dodgy: twwh3 has the worst pathing of the series by far, every siege map has corridors so narrow nearly every unit type gets stuck or stops because its too confused about how to path through it. Mammoths have gone from being a strong unit in twwh2 to a frustrating mess of a unit in twwh3 as it gets stopped dead by any enemy on a horse or chariot (it used to be able to bash through anything) it also can't hit single entities very easily as although it does the attack animation it seems to be completely missing the unit it's attacking. I've also noticed units with a 20+ speed advantage getting caught by much slower AI controlled units which even under "exhaustion" fatigue should not be possible. They've broken a lot of core mechanics and i'm not sure we'll see any of them fixed as they just want to release more shiny things.
