The joys of colored wires and colorblind employees. I was doing telecom work on a brand new 16 story building with fiber runs between each floor. Every single floor was mis-wired due to a colorblind employee during the construction.

I specify Greenheck fans a lot. GB I always remember as "general, belt drive". If it were direct drive it would just be a model G. Similarly, CUBE I always remember as "centrifugal upblast belt--driven exhaust". The direct-drive version is the CUE. SQ for "square inline", BSQ for the belt-driven. It isn't always that simple in their product lineup, but for the everyday stuff, it seems to be.

Hey Chris - Great video! The fan was likely built at the factory without the motor and drives. The representative you purchased from added the motor, belt and sheaves. That motor is one we would use at the factory. Food for thought - we often times recommend upblast fans for dishwashers as they aren't putting the high moisture air continuously on the roof.

I’m not in the biz, but semi-knowledgeable. My first thought, why is this not an upblast exhaust? Downblast for general ventilation, restrooms, etc. Upblast for anything involving steam, smoke, chemicals, high-temps.

Tip, if you have raised/indented serials tags, take your sharpie and color it in then wipe off the excess. Repeat if needed until visible. The sharpie will highlight the raised/indented serials for you to see better. I also use Google lens to take pics too as its good at detection and you'll be able to copy n paste those long serial numbers to your work orders.

Chris: I would think it would be best if you had the base for the exhaust fan. Now the discharge from the fan is much closer to the roof. You have a lot of chemicals (chlorine) in the exhaust air. Now the exhaust air will in time deteriorate the roof. When I did that kind of work we always used stainless duct.

I was waiting for you to borrow parts off the "abandoned" unit left on the roof, to temporarily fix the operating one. Given that you said galvanized ducting is a common problem for vent fans, have you ever looked at creating a stainless steel liner that could be slid into the existing duct, to solve the problem? I know they do linings on pipes in a lot of applications, and sliding a liner in should be cheaper than doing a full tearout and retrofit. That might be a business opportunity for you, or perhaps for you to partner with another company to fabricate the duct parts for the retrofits?

What do you guys think about this: Got a short to ground using my continuity tester on my meter... from the red 24 volt wire going right up to the defrost board on a 12 yr old AMANA Central Heat Pump outdoor unit. I isolated the system R coming from the indoor air handler where I first found the short on the R. When I checked that Isolated indoor R there was no short. So, I followed the short to the outdoor unit. I got right up to the R connection on the Defrost Board. I pulled the wire off the board to keep going with further testing downstream to isolate the short. So then I checked for continuity between the R on the board and ground, and wow...no continuity! I checked my way back on the red circuitry going backwards again, and no more short there, even with the red wire connected back to the Defrost board. Anyway, my guess is that when I pulled the R wire connector off of the Defrost board, the board flexed a bit, and eliminated the short. I have had boards do that a couple times in the past. So that slight flex of the board is my one guess, or could it have been some build up of spider eggs and webbing that was evident on the board causing a short and moving wires around to look actually stopped that problem by moving the spider webs and eggs? Ever seen that?
