On 15th June 2005, paramedics were called to the Holy Trinity Monastery of Tanacu in Eastern Romania. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a young woman, dressed as a nun and laid on a makeshift cross. Her name was Irina Cornici, and, unbeknownst to the paramedics, she had just been through a three-day-long exorcism in which Father Daniel Corogeanu, assisted by four nuns, attempted to deliver her from evil. They claimed she had been possessed by the devil, with the horrifying details and what followed making this paranormal case one of the most outraging and highly publicised instances of exorcism in the 21st century.

I’m rewatching after falling asleep twice during the first attempts. Is this basis for the crucifixion movie? I recommend it if haven’t seen it’s supposedly based on actual events. Bring Orthodox I enjoy these was surprised about the confession and unworthy reception of the Eucharist being the underlying cause. Sad altogether. Especially w her Father. And so it is! I’m more interested in the sketchy ordination details but there isn’t many details available. Now he lives in a hut? I just don’t get why they would put her on a cross of all things. In Orthodoxy that’s an instrument of salvation obviously by our Saviour. Anyways. Thanks again really well told and great video w icons etc.

The cries of ‘demonic possession’ have claimed an untold number of the lives of people with complex cognitive, neurological, and mental health problems like schizophrenia, epilepsy, NEAD, cluster A PDs etc. The fact so many of the tales we hear still are modern despite expanding scientific knowledge is horrifying, infuriating, and demonstrative of the dangers of powerful and fanatic organised religion combined with widespread ignorance. I hope that one day these things can be left firmly in the past, and that all vulnerable people have access to safe and effective care for their health needs, like they should have had in the first place.

Well done Laura. A really tragic case indeed. Although I believe that there is a need for exorcism, the way it was dealt with in this case was despicable! From the doctors who 'treated' her in hospital to the members of the monastery, she was horrendously abused and mistreated. Her death was as tragic as her life. I only hope that now she is at peace, and that her suffering is over.

Exactly. Any case of possession is extreme, but there are stories were the priest/nuns etc. still treated the possessed person with care and compassion. The sickos in this case must have had some kind of perversion/fetish, because I cannot think of any logical reason as to why anyone would "crucify" someone. Most possessed people are restrained either in a chair or on their beds.
@AndersWatches
@AndersWatches Жыл бұрын
Sorry but until people stop believing in such nonsense, despicable acts like this one will continue to happen. Irina needed compassionate and specially tailored mental healthcare. Not an exorcism. Nobody has ever needed, or will ever need to be, tortured for the crime of being ill. Because it isn’t demons or boogeymen. It’s illness. The fact that such delusions are cultivated amongst practitioners and their believers as much as they are in the mind of people suffering from schizophrenia (which by the way often features religious themed delusions, wonder why that might be 🤔) for example, is despicable. All ‘exorcisms’ are abuse, plain and simple. Every single person forced to endure that torture was vulnerable and in need, and all they got was abuse and victim blaming. That you feel such things are ever justified disgusts me. I sincerely hope that neither you, nor anybody you love, ever finds themselves suffering from complex mental or neurological health issues, which on their own are awful enough, without the additional threat of curing so-called evil with acts of true evil.

This is the saddest story I've ever seen on the channel. This video is excellent, but I felt hollow after watching it. She grew up in an extremely abusive environment, worked hard her whole life and fought to survive, and was failed by every person around her and every element of society as she struggled with her mental health. She fought against a living nightmare for her whole life and no one helped her. All the medical staff she dealt with treated her like a burden and she didn't receive proper treatment: even the paramedics mocked her. She placed her trust in the little church, but they betrayed her in every way possible. The priest (if you can call him that) was corrupt, asking for all the savings of a person who had nothing, which obviously drove her anxiety through the roof. He was extremely sketchy- didn't complete his monastic training, was expelled from school, didn't follow the proper guidelines of an exorcism as laid out by his own church. The sisters were under his spell and acted like a cult. They all tied her up and gagged her for days before chaining her to a cross and essentially holding her captive and torturing her until she died. She chewed her own mouth off. It was verified that she had been dead for hours before the ambulance came, so in all likelihood they stood around for hours trying to decide what to do with her body before finally coming up with a story and calling for help. They lied, and they continue to lie, and some people still believe them. She sounded like such a good, endearing person with so much to live for if fate dealt her a better hand, but no one in her life cared about her enough to really help her. She was murdered by the people she trusted and thought she found a home with. I hope that somehow she was able to find some semblance of peace for at least one second in her last moments. I hope she's in a better place now.

Back then Romania was poverty stricken and everything was so backward, like farmers still using horses and pulling trailers that were far below 1600's quality/design. They were cutting hay by hand like in the Middle Ages. Under the Communist Russia boot any progress for bettering Romania was stopped cold. Before the Iron Curtain came down there were stories leaking out to the Western media on the corruption of the Romania Orthodox Church. The head of the church was nothing more than a Communist spy who reported priests who talked about freedom and they'd disappear. Their medical system was maybe a little better but not even close to Western standards.

Her "friend" disclosed her childhood trauma FOR her, after coercing her into confession instead of therapy, then everyone is shocked when she has a psychotic break. So they do an exorcism and kill her, and they would feel guilty if it were their fault. Awesome.

Dear Paranormal Scholar Thank you for such a dark yet enlightening video. The case although very sad and tragic, has illuminated a few major points. Most importantly the very lively debate between science and the paranormal. Laura, the material and presentation was immaculate and each detail was explained down to the 'T'. It is noteworthy how you explained the case's history which may have played an integral role in the story. I can tell you, this case was a little different for me because not spiritually though, just different still unable to discern what it means. Thanks again

Watch Kreskin on Johnny Carson have 6 individuals move beverage glasses on a plain flat surface, like a Ouija planchette, with only the tips of fingers and even asking them to try to not let it happen. Remarkable video available on KZbin.

Laura is messing around with the ouija board recently? I pray she is not because of how dangerous that really is. Nothing good comes through it I promise. Anything that claims to be good is lying to the person.

@@davidneumann2705 I totally agree. One of the most seriously dangerous "games" ever brought into a home. In my long comment about crucifixion, at the end I tell Laura I worry about her and her husband....this is one of my biggest worries. Thanks for pointing it out. The Kreskin on Carson I mentioned here definitely quizzes the mind on what actually moves the planchette as Kreskin demonstrates it's not the physical actions of the participants, and they aren't using a Ouija board, just a flat surface with playing cards around the edges. Remarkable

It’s a rare thing when I feel in my heart of hearts that a person did wrong, and all of the necessary steps to become a full fledged Man of God, or Priest were so blatantly disregarded. That man was no priest. He had no business conducting an exorcism, and even after it failed, which was evident that it would before it began, she was treated like a demon herself! That poor girl never should have gone to that place. I initially felt something wrong with him when you stated that he was so happy to hear they were coming as he could use their help in building the church. He used that poor girl. And the nuns essentially treated her like a young girl in a horrible Catholic school. They may as well have beaten her with reeds. For that shell of a man to actually say that he’d feel guilt if it happened during his so called exorcism, is disgusting. It happened while she was in their care. While she needed them the most. And after all she’d been through and beat it, to be brought down in a manner such as this is truly infuriating. I can only say that every single person involved with his rise to (a Cracker Jack) priesthood should feel guilt to some degree. Along with all of the nuns. It was such an unfair ending to a woman who had conquered so much, to be done in by her friends suggestion to come to an unfinished church, and see an unfinished man. And while she was there, she’d have left her unfinished life. Thank you Lady Laura, you definitely told a story that needed to be known. 👏👏👏👏👏

It could be possible that Irina was suffering from rabies and not from schizophrenia. Her psychomotor agitation and strong aversion to the holy water in the exorcism kinda sounds like it. She was also foaming from the mouth. She may have been bitten by some bat while working and never noticed it? Why several trained medical professionals didn't notice the symptoms is another question.

Rabies is actually more difficult to discern then I e would originally think. Especially since it is not as commonly seen as it once was. Also forgive me if I do not go along with the schizophrenia diagnosis as well. Psychotropics would have at least lessened the symptoms not made them worse, even if they weren't the right cocktail.

Severe theological and medical ignorance pushes this modern case into the realms of mediaeval superstition. There’s not even a hint of anything praeternatural occurring, which, by its absence, is further evidence of a simplistic misinterpretation of the obvious symptoms of a psychotic disorder. As you’ve made clear during the introduction, modern Catholic oversight would never have allowed any kind of exorcism to proceed given such circumstances, and the assessment of mental illness would have been swift and unwavering.

Keeping someone restrained, immobile, and without food or water--whether or not that person refuses it themselves for whatever reason--for three dayis a good way to kill them. The priest and nuns should have called for professional medical intervention at least 48 hrs sooner. A jail sentence for them was absolutely appropriate.

Many cases of schizophrenia start at a young age, however there are also those that begin in the mid to late twenties (right around Irina’s age). In those cases, it does come on very suddenly w/ no prior mental health concerns. I speak as someone who witnessed someone I care about very much get diagnosed at 26 years of age. And much like Irina, she had no prior history. And much like Irina, she also has persecutory delusions, believes she takes orders straight from God and has many religious delusions. I’m not saying possession isn’t a real thing. I don’t know. But loving someone w/ the same diagnosis and many of the same delusions as Irina, I just felt compelled to share my opinion.
