In 2006, a student at the Girlstown boarding school made a Ouija board. Late night spirit summonings soon resulted in haunting, with girls at the school witnessing creepy ghosts and dark shadows across the building. Ultimately, the proclamation of a curse would cast the Villa de Las Ninas school and its students into paranormal chaos, with a mystery illness seemingly causing students to fall under demonic influence, suggesting that the curse and haunting of Girlstown may represent one of the greatest cases of mass demonic possession in all history.

A quite typical case of mass hysteria. I personally find it very hard to believe that the alleged specialist didn’t conclude that fairly quickly. A lot of superstitious teenage girls living under strict rules, who probably rather welcomed the distraction, and more importantly the attention they got, as a relief from the sheer boredom.

Freudian psychology is every bit as plausible as "demonic possession" so as much as I enjoy her videos & the topics she covers, and I find her open-minded, yet analytical (compared to other similar content creators) approach to the subject matter refreshing, I personally found her rebuttle a bit lacking. There are several far more likely explanations for such an event that rely purely on psychological and sociological factors, so it's unclear why that particular psychologist leaned so heavily on outdated theories of famously dubious validity, but even still, the notion that it was an evil curse or demonic in origin is an even bigger logical absurdity.

Did the ouija board once, never did it again. My friend and I went to another friends house, and there was a girl there which me and my friend didn't know. Anyway we started, and it spelt the name Rose. The girl we didn't know became very upset, and demanded we were pushing it, I certainly wasn't, and my friends said they weren't doing that either. Turned out the name was of a relative who had recently died. She was in tears. We had no idea about this, and even if we had known, we wouldn't have been so cruel. It scared me, and never touched one again.

Sooo, let me reiterate... A shy girl got put into a dorm with a lot of other girls from rough backgrounds. Probably got bullied and began playing a lonely game. Then her, oh so innocent, dorm mates ratted her out the superstitious teachers. And the teachers, instead of investigating the bullying, jumped on the opportunity to execute their little bit of power in this world and there the girl out. And before she could leave, her dorm mates mutilated her - because, come on, wind?? And because the girl knew no one would listen to the truth, she gave them the one thing they actually were afraid of, she "cursed" them. Probably just told them something akin to "You'll get what you deserve." The innate drama all teenagers have in them in combination with the superstitious environment and the tiny bit of guilt the girls felt over mistreating their classmates to that degree then resulted in mass hysteria. Mental health problems absolutely weaken the immune system. And the placebo effect is notoriously powerful as well. I'm a big fan of the unknown, but indoctrinated people in a religious environment, primed to imagine or hallucinate stuff that isn't there, doesn't convince me to begin with and the whole story about the lonely girl cursing everyone just screams bullying. Edit: Yeah, the psychiatrist was far off with their explanation. (They were all a bit too much into Freud back then. Just as these girls imagined a curse, the psychiatrist imagines penises everywhere.) Thank god we've developed psychiatry in the last 20 years. These poor girls were traumatized and trauma primes a person for other mental illnesses. Falling for a mass hysteria in the religious context really isn't that surprising. In any case, they need proper therapy. Even if religion can give a person stability, it ultimately doesn't help working through what happened to them.

The Freudian approach to psychology is most definitely still utilized, it's not been disproven as much as it's been supplemented with other praxis. This could be a backstory for a horror movie. The protagonist would believe the ghost was maria haunting, but later realize maria is alive and living a normal life, no witchcraft or the likes. The demon is later revealed to have manipulated the entire school to believe maria was the culprit, but maria was expelled for instead of being the devil's tool, was the only girl whom the devil could not manipulate. And she did not speak a curse but a prophecy warning her peers. Maria is taken back to the school to fight the demon, and we see maria summoning an angel to fight the demon at the final act. The movie ends with Maria being declared by the vatican as a living saint, one of the chosen who will fight the devil during the end of days.

It stuck in my head because it was so weird. Like a mass demonic possession in a school, or maybe the kids were just saying that in order to excuse themselves from assaulting each other or something. There was also a religious name to the school like St something or other. The students had been doing this type of weird ouji stuff too.

You know... a lot of the symptoms sounds a lot like rocky mountain spotted fever just minus the rash. Perhaps there was a small local outbreak of a relative of the disease, only for the social events to misidentify its cause. If mass hysteria happens there needs to be a catalyst for individuals to learn what social symptoms to replicate subconsciously. It explains why some people had physical symptoms while others did not, and why such instances haven't happened again.

When i went to a Catholic priest in East Africa to ask his opinion about traditional healing, widely prevalent in Africa, he blurted out, rather angrily, "they're all demonic". Needless to say, my interview with a person such biases didn't last long. When we talk about cursed neo-colonialism exploiting people economically in most of the world, we ought to also include cultural colonialism and neo-colonialism. La Sante Muerte in Mexico is not Mictecacihuatl, Lady of the Dead, who ruled the underworld in the Aztec cosmology. Like the Catholic Church itself with its numerous saints, La Santa Muerte is associated with health, protection and financial success. The latter is particularly important for those perpetually oppressed into a life of poverty by political forces more powerful than they.

Used a Ouija board once kinda. At a Superbowl party, I was like 11 and the person running the activity was an older witchy type woman I had never met before. There was like 8 people in the room, I was just observing and when the lady kept asking for a sign, she got one. We heard clear knocks in the walls, and the pro she was, her first reaction was to scream bloody murder. This of course scared the living hell out of my little kid mind. I ran out, jumped down a flight of stairs because I wasn't about to waste time stepping down, and hid behind a couch until I knew nobody was dead or possessed 😝. Had nightmares about it for a week. I never had the urge to be around another one for some reason.

I’ve watched twice and I wanted to say…… I thoroughly enjoyed your perspective at the end. The repression and group psychosis did not sit well with me at all. Though many suffer at the hands of another, most go on rather well after being removed / therapy, etc. Yes, most, if not all will never forget and will deal with the thoughts on and off for the rest of their lives but to blame over 500 illnesses on upbringing and sexual frustration, hysteria or group psychosis just baffles me. When not understood, group psychosis seems to be the answer to what they cannot truly answer; perhaps to their own belief system. It seems like a slap to the face to those that have already been through so much. Thank you for yours videos as I truly enjoy them. 🩷 💫

Theres a lot of variables in this situation, I'm not buying it simply being a "Mass Hysteria" I can say I will NOT allow a ouija board in my home. I've never seen much good come from them. We are definitely in a spiritual war and the veils are increasingly thin. Do whatever you can to remain positive and protective.

@@davenobody26 we have barely tapped into what is called the "power of suggestion" but we know from places where curses are feared, such as where Candomble is practiced, it can literally kill a person. The mind controls the body, not the other way around, and beliefs need to be taken into consideration when dealing with the body. And plus we really don't know what the truth is. The exculpatory evidence from non-believers is no more significant than tales of people who flatlined and went to hell.

A mix of real demonic stuff and psychological. With certain environments demons will attach themselves to them. Even religious environments have such demonic vibes. As a kid there was one particular church I didn't like going into, so my grandmother let me stay in the car. For a while I did go into that church, but when a new pastor and facility took over I felt creeped out by it. However, it took my grandma three Sundays to realize there was something really off at this church. Turns out the new pastor and the congregation were doing wierd stuff like hysterical laughter and making animal noises during services saying it was "speaking in tongues". My grandmother and mom walked out at their last time there as someone's voice changed during the "tongue speaking" and it creeped them out.

Sad to hear people saying Santa Muerta is evil. She's a comforting Saint who guides good souls to the afterlife, and a reminder of the pre-Christian heritage for those who believe in her. If I was a child having fun with a ouija board and people started calling my mom a witch because she believed in that, I'd want to curse some people too. I do practice some ritual magick as an adult, but children must be taught carefully how to cast spells in a way that doesn't hurt others. It takes a mature understanding of your beliefs to do magic in a constructive way, and having others insult family and ancestors will push any young mage into bad magic.

There are actually several other similar cases throughout history that are attributed to some sort of "mass hysteria" that is basically an event that is passed on psychologically. It always happened with larger groups of of teen girls. They say it probably has to do with the large hormonal shift that happens at that time, making girls very in-tune with each other and highly susceptible to mind manipulation. Basically they manifest whatever it is they see happening to others, onto themselves.

Weird personal input here: but at one point in my teens I was pretty neglected for a few years. I think i started to develop a sort of munchausens thing because I would only get cared for when I went to the Dr. They never found anything wrong with me but I was “sick” all the time. Looking back I did feel crappy and was 100 percent sure I was sick with something . But I think it was more that I felt cared for when specialists were invested in me and my physical symptoms may have been a manifestation of my trauma. I wonder if it was similar with these girls

To the people saying any belief in, or uncertainty about, this kind of thing I wanted to say this: While I agree with being skeptical to a point and will certainly not *immediately* scream possession (and mass hysteria is likely)... there are many things and occurrences in nature that remain unexplained by current science. So until that's not the case, it's hard to say that spirituality is completely irrational with complete certainty. Even Einstein described himself as unconvinced that spirituality had been disproven. While I'm certainly not a religious person, I think it's far more rational to keep an open mind considering how little we know about the universe or multiverse. My personal belief is that all seemingly unexplainable things could be explained by science that we are simply just yet to understand.
