@BlueShadow777 I could not agree more. One of the reasons I watch younger people react to movies I enjoy, is to see if the next generation gets it. And many times, they don't. And the movies they frequently get wrong are Rosemary's Baby, The Shining and The Exorcist. These guys understood most of it. I hope they will watch it in the future, because they didn't pick up on the subtle hints of how evil had been released, and was following Father Merrin through the streets.

I think your comment about people perceiving drama as “slow” is spot on. It’s like unless you want to watch movie clips of stunts and CGI explosions back-to-back, that stuff in between is called narrative and character development.

People rewatch The Exorcist year after year not because they will ever experience a real exorcism, but they will experience the death of one or both of their parents. The Karras side of the story is what people relate to and why they'll watch the Exorcist over and over again like "The Seventh Seal". The exorcism is just a metaphor for the guilt that Karras, and most people, experience from the death of a parent. That makes The Exorcist more than just a horror movie, it's also one of the few outstanding existential films in the history of cinema.
@BluntReactionsBB

Yeah. Karras is the protagonist. He literally must exorcise the Demons of his guilt. Only when he realizes Regan’s mother is essentially going through what he’s going through (when she asks him if Regan is going to die). In that moment, it all comes together for him and he tells the Audience with the look he gives Regan’s mother, his moment of enlightenment. He chooses selflessness to spare others of further torture. Masterful fucking storytelling.

The procedure performed early in the film is called a cerebral arteriogram, which uses a rapid injection of iodine-based contrast to take X-ray images of the blood vessels in the brain. In 1973, it would have been performed just as shown. Radiologists still use this exam in some cases, but it has largely been replaced by CAT Scans and MRI studies. Great reaction to one of the greatest horror films ever made. 👍

The novel by William Peter Blatty was based on an actual exorcism of a 14 year old boy from Maryland which took place in St. Louis, Missouri in 1948. It took several weeks, the last few took place in the old Alexian Brothers hospital in south St. Louis, which as since been torn down. According to the priests journals, the events were similar to those in the movie but a bit toned down, no spinning heads or floating beds. Also, the part of Father Dyer, the younger priest who gave last rites at the end, was played by Fr. Willam J. O'Malley, a Jesuit priest who was brought onto the film originally as a consultant, but then given a small part. Father O'Malley, until his recent passing, taught at Fordham Prep School in the Bronx, NY. Thanks for the great reaction.... subscribed!

Great reaction! What I love about this movie most of all are all the little details you only get with multiple viewings, as it's an almost perfectly constructed movie. There are hints throughout the movie of things that are going to happen, of the possession, the murder involving Burke and the connections between what Chris is going through with what Karras is going through. It's a lot, but the movie runs so smoothly and mixes drama with horror so seamlessly, that you really need to watch it a couple of times to grasp how good it really is. Also, the characters are so real that it doesn't feel like we're watching a movie. It's almost like we're a fly on the wall, watching things happen in that house in the middle of a normal street.

It's a real testament to the makers of this film that 50 years after its release, it can still shock and un-nerve folks. And doesn't Ellen Burstyn give a phenomenal performance? Her character's inner turmoil is palpable. And Mercedes McCambridge's vocal performance as Pazuzu is Oscar worthy. - - - - - Max Von Sydow was only in his 40s when the played Merrin. When he returned as a younger Merrin in 1977's EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC he didn't need the makeup to look older. - - - - - In the novel, Lt. Kinderman showed up at the McNeil house to arrest Regan for the murder of Burke Dennings, right as Kerras threw himself out of the window. After he saw Regan, he pieced together what occurred and actually ended up covering up the details for Chris and Regan's privacy. - - - - - Also in the novel, whenever Regan's head would "spin", it was described as an illusion that the demon would project at people in order to elicit shock and fear. When Chris saw this, she was so jarred that she fainted. - - - - - I hope you do reaction vids to the other films in this franchise ... EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC (1977) [a total shit show ... couldn't decide if it was horror film or a sci-film] THE EXORCIST III: LEGION (1990) [my favorite sequel] DOMINION: PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST (2004) [decent prequel] EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING (2005) [idiotic prequel]

You must understand there was nothing like this before. The movie was banned inmany towns across the country. While watching some jumped u screamed and ran out. one guy got up and vomited right in the isle. Im sure happy it was sunny outside. The movie is based on a true stroy but the victim was a 14 year old boy. The Vatican has since sealed the record so not much more is known. Your reactions are funny. People never seem to understand the candle flame-burst scene. In the attic when Chris MacNeil is carrying the candle and Carl appears, the candle flame flares up because of the draught pressure created by the opening of the hatch. It’s simple and there can be no other rational explanation. Okay, yes it is exaggerated a bit, but that’s filmmaking 🤷🏻‍♂️
@BlueShadow777
@BlueShadow777 7 ай бұрын
@@phillipbanes5484 “The stairs themselves are the hatch” 👏🏻🤣 Don’t be ridiculous! You’ve obviously no idea how Ramsay ladders work! Although a hatch can’t directly be seen, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one. I’d expect any attic accessible through a ceiling *would* have a hatch. Any house without a hatch for the attic would suffer loss of (rising) heat into the roof space. This is a primary reason for having an openable hatch to an attic. My own attic is accessible through a ceiling panel/hatch containing an automatic Ramsay ladder. This brings another point… Chris pulls down a Ramsay (or similar) ladder. What is it attached to? Ramsay ladders (and the like) are fixed to the upper side of a hatch. Furthermore, of *course* it’s not the ‘demon’ causing the flash of the candle-flame. It’s obviously the effect of a vacuum-created draught. Although quite exaggerated, that’s the the effect that occurs with a sudden influx of rushing air. Secondly, Chris’s response *accepts* that it was a draught that caused the flash. It’s apparent in her reaction to Carl’s appearance. If she perceived it as some unexplainable occurrence she’d have continued querying why that happened rather than simply telling Carl not to do that. If it was a ‘demon’, why then was it never mentioned again??? She didn’t ask for any explanation whatsoever. Also, the ‘demon’ was attached to Regan and confined to her bedroom. There is no instance when the ‘demon’ did anything outside of Regan’s room. And don’t mention the church statue defilement… there is no suggestion nor evidence the Regan-attached ‘demon’ was responsible; it was left ‘open-ended’. As I previously said, it was a sudden gust of incoming air into the attic space *through* the opening of *THE HATCH* to which the Ramsay-ladder is attached on its upper side!
@BlueShadow777
@BlueShadow777 7 ай бұрын
@@phillipbanes5484 In fact, I thought I’d ask AI (Chat GPT) for confirmation of my assertion. Here is my question to Chat GPT… Q: “In the 1973 film “The Exorcist”, when Chris goes up into the attic to check for rats near the start of the film, she pulls down a ladder. What kind of ladder would this be and how would it be attached? Would there be a hatch in the ceiling, the upper side to which the ladder is fixed?” A: “In "The Exorcist," the type of ladder used in the attic scene is typically an attic pull-down ladder or attic stairs. These ladders are often attached to a hatch or access panel in the ceiling, providing a convenient way to access the attic space. The ladder is usually folded and stored in the attic when not in use, and it can be pulled down when needed. The hatch in the ceiling is where the upper side of the ladder is fixed.” How about *that* then??? Learned something??? “The stairs themselves are the hatch” 👏🏻🤣 Indeed…!

This movie always read to me as two-fold: Reagan's story is unfortunately very much a story about sexual abuse (she's hyper sexual, she's peeing herself, her behavioral changes are quick and dramatic), and the story of a man whose guilt pushes him to the brink of losing his faith. The culmination, with Father Karras both choosing to allow a demon into him to save a child, and then having the strength through his faith to fight that demon enough to be able to find the strength to throw himself out of the window was just beautiful to me. And the significance of Father Dyer being able to provide the last rites to Karras, with Karras squeezing Dyer's hand in lieu of being able to speak...what a perfect way to illustrate a man saving his own soul.

Its not about SA. The sexual parts are to show you the depravity the demon will use to demoralize us. Its not about SAing a little girl, its about demoralizing the adults around ger through horrid, perverted behavior...but its not about SA. Its about the lengths demons are willing to go to demoralize us and perversity against a little girl is one of its methods. While it is SA against her by the demon, thats not what the story is about. Its just showing us that perversity is one of the demons means to an end to demoralize our spirit and our faith.

I'm always surprised at people who can't take a scene with a small amount of blood 😁 Linda Blair did go through this, and yes that is her blood spurting out.

The real story is even scarier. It was a 14-year-old boy. Every bit of the exorcism was documented.

Hello from Ontario Canada I am a Paranormal Supernatural Researcher and Investigator I have been researching studying the Paranormal and Supernatural for over 30 years amongst other unexplained phenomena I just subbed too your channel this is a great movie it is one of my favorites I have seen this movie quite a few times it falls into the category of religious horror here is a little background on this movie it is loosely based on a real life exorcism that took place in the 1940s in Saint Louis however in real life it was not a girl it was a teenage boy named Rowland Doe ( not his real name ) also it is said that this movie was cursed also the Vatican tried everything in there power too make sure this movie would not see the light of day because it is exactly how an exorcism is and the male orderly in this movie that helped put Reagan on the gurney was also a murderer in real life his name is Paul Bateson he was sentenced too 20 years in prison and released in 2003 he murdered gay men also he murdered a Reporter for the Village voice by the name of Addison Verrill .

AND Pazuzu is voiced uncredited by a WOMAN. lmao She just has a VERY bad smoker's rasp. I think that's the reason she was asked honestly. Her name was Lady McCambridge. She was a socialite that struggled with alcoholism and when she recovered she opened rehabs for women all around the country. She has done A LOT of good. ❤🖤

Played by a 40-year-old. The makeup artist not only did Blair's incredible makeup but all the actors and making Max Van Sydow so credibly a man in his 70s or 80s was an amazing achievement.

The making of this movie was brutal, the mom actress got continuously thrown back until they got what they wanted to the point of it being abusive. Nothing about this movie was safe, so many people got hurt during this movie (edited to fix mistake)

@@BluntReactionsBB There was a scene of her walking down the stairs backwards. While it was incredibly disturbing and a great scene, the brilliant Friedkin thought it was too much, too soon and he was right. If you saw that, you'd immediately go to a priest, and they weren't at that point in the story yet.
