I feel like the only way to make "team of exorcists from every religion" good is to make it a kids' cartoon. They're like a superhero team and they get to fight Dracula and undead Jack the Ripper and shit. I'd watch that.
Your comment reminded me of the joy I felt seeing the perosnality clashes between weird psychics in 'Mob Psycho 100'
@madarchmage1151 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, although I am a firm believer in superiority of animated medium, I think there's a way to make this concept into a good show for adult audience. We just need to use different sub textual messages for each age group's show. For kids the underlying message may be something like: "Every religion is true. No matter in what you believe you deserve to be alive and be happy, be be kind to each other regardless of ideological differences". And for adults we could focus on how scary it is to know that even if you religious practises work on "evil supernatural entities" which means your belief is true. Other religious practises also work which means that your belief is not *_completely_* true. So basically any campaign in Mage: The Ascension with poly Traditional cabal.

I see the Books of Blood by Clive Barker on the bed; the first three volumes if I remenber. Got that edition in my early 20's, and it changed the way I read horror fiction. Would love to see more of those stories adapted into film (by genuinely good filmmakers). Love your content.

I guess it has something to do with cinematography or editing, but when I see the original film I feel like an OBSERVER, watching this evil haunt the poor people. The new film makes me feel like I AM the main character, which honestly is not that frightening.

Shout out to Saint Mark for saving me from the obligatory watch before checking out the video/ audio (and for the both of you getting me to watch the Terrifier movies, despite how much they discombobulate me and I can't pin down how I feel). This was another fun listen! Anyone not on the Patreon, there's a whole bunch more of these up there that are really interesting and different to the analysis videos. Also, the TMZ discord is rather cool and chill. Is there anything more exquisite than a horror movie based on an old and iconic franchise that has absolutely nothing to say, other than being as broad as possible? There's possible a level of genius existential horror in that.

I agree with you. The Exorcist is my favorite film and Believer was a supremely disappointing cynical affair, lazy and try-hard at the same time, lifting scenes carbon copy from the original with none of the intelligence nor insight that Blatty wrote his story with. I wanted to punch somebody after I got out of the theater from watching Believer and if I could power-wash it from my brain I would. Oh, and the creators' treatment of Ellen Burstyn was infuriating, cruel, dishonest and stupid, and wasteful. The tender moment with Linda Blair at the end was only a hint of what Believer could've had more of.

You said one of the worst things you can say about a movie. "David Gordon Green" He was never really on my radar, but over time, I realized that some movies I've watched in the past that just felt weird and off and generally left a bad taste in my mouth were done by him. He got his foot in the door making middling comedies (stoner shit..weed..LOL...) and then got his foot in the horror door to become a go-to guy for remakes when someone should have hacked that damn foot off and we'd all be better for it. I don't hold intellectual property as sacred, but I hate to see them tarnished in such a way that shuts the door to others who might do better with it. Reboot things all you want Hollywood, just don't let this man do it.
@AceOfSevens Жыл бұрын
The previous Exorcist sequels are all over in terms of quality, but none of them are just trying to do The Exorcist again, which is what we have here. If they wanted to do a knock of of the Exorcist with no new good ideas, they could have done that without buying the rights.

I would think that would put you more into the movie,because-like and agree with it or not-that is something that is going on in the real world,which should mean that putting it or any other thing that pertains to the real world in a horror movie gives it a strong basis on which to build the horror.
