I thought the Cenobites were inter dimensional beings that had seemed out more forms of pleasure and pain become pleasure. So when people use the lament formation they are called. In this hell, dimension pain and pleasure have become one.

I appreciate that you take the time to empathize with your morbid zoo beasts so much, Mariana. The comparison of the ring wraiths and relatives/friends with warped or radicalized views is so poignant. You don't just look at monsters as othered entities that represent evil and that must be defeated; you highlight the importance of recognizing the monsters within us, the traits of humanity warped by fear and anger. *chef kiss* Keep up the amazing work 🙏

People should also understand that John Carpenter wasn't a conservative or "anti-woke". He explicitly stated that They Live is about the republican party and the Reagan era in politics. He is also against the maga movement and knows trump is a racist and fascist. This is not a political video, but it has to be said.

@24:26 - "Being a member of any kind of counterculture means that all culture becomes strange by default, and, therefore, counter-intuitively easier to see with clarity." This is a good quote.

at best, Civil War is about four fundamentally incurious journalists who are so bad at their job that instead of documenting the new normal of American life in a civil conflict, they're dead set on securing an impossible interview with the actual President of the United States. they're not war journalists, they're war paparazzi, and THAT'S an interesting movie... but still somehow not the movie we got.

I picked this as a classic the moment I stepped out of the theater. Congratulations Mr. Carpenter. In the 1951 version there is BOB, the crew chief who comes up with every good idea. In this case we are already heading into "girlboss" crap. 1951 ! Classic. 1982 Classic as well. 2011 - boring trash.

The Eldians are the jews here and the point about it muddying the waters to point the finger at both groups is in fact a good point that this might not be explicity nazi propaganda but at the very least apologia that war is awful and just a people thing to wash away the heinous acts of japanese war crimes that very much weren't equally bad across the board on both sides

Thing is I don't think forehead kisses prohibits something being fascist and lotr is at the very least not really countering fascist ideology which is in itself a bit weird

My takeaway from the movie was American Exceptionalism, and how people have become desensitized from the terrible realities that images in the media actually represent.
