LyricalMasterMind1 I agree, still a *head* of its time. Lol, but in all seriousness, exactly true. Nowadays, most special effects are digital. Nobody really does these special effects real life anymore, especially making a DOLL that looks so freaking real. I never even knew it was a doll until now! It’s so lifelike and creepy!

This was one of the scariest pictures that I have ever seen. In my opinion none could top it. Back in those days, around the early 70's, the theater lines were packed with people. When seeing this movie, these people literally freaked out in the theaters. They fainted, vomited, and were ( on ambulance stretchers) carried out of the shows. This movie had a strong disturbing psychological impact on many viewers. I agree with quickstar.
@jkllfdsa8 жыл бұрын
Amen. I saw it ALONE in a first-run theater right before it was set to FINALLY close after months in that venue. Still scariest film I've ever seen, and not because of the special effects alone. I'd read the book before going so I sort of knew what to expect. After that, I never really was a fan of horror films. The film didn't necessarily cause it. I just think real life is scary enough (just watch the news any night) & feel no need to add to that.

With all of the CGI and other types of effects out there I still say the makeup and her eyes were the best part of this look. They looked fierce and unflinching. Nothing in the past 40 years has the same feeling I got (or get) looking at her or the prop.
@azooreus3 жыл бұрын
When you see photos of Reagan Macneil used in things such as the Scary Maze Game, it's actually a picture of this dummy, not of Linda Blair herself. The likely reason that image terrifies so many people is due to an uncanny valley effect. It looks like a real person, and our brain is trying to read it as such, but in reality, it isn't. It's likely also why you see some damn great iteration on the makeup work done on this film, but nothing ever feels as terrifying; because you are just looking at a person's face. I think they made a good call not using Linda herself for promotional material, as that shot is timeless.

As a teenager I told my mom that I had found a replica of the spinning head at a garage sale (total lie) and that I gave the guy selling it a deposit and was going to pick it up after school. I asked her for a ride and she swore to God she would abandon me in the street if I bought it home. My dad (who was in on the prank) said he would take me to pick it up. We got in the car to get Burger King. When we came back my mom was missing. She left a note saying she was staying at my aunts house and would not return until the head was out of the house. My dad said let's let her sweat a little. She was gone for 3 days! We were laughing our asses off!!!

Blair's performance in this extraordinarily well crafted -- handcrafted in fact -- film, is so nuanced and complex that I believe she should have won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar instead of Tatum O'Neal... Yes, Tatum's performance in 'Paper Moon' was and is exceptional, especially considering her age. But Blair, who tells us she did not understand much of what she was asked to do on set, delivers a performance few adult actors could have pulled off so convincingly. Brava, Ms. Blair.

This is the scariest movie ever made in my mind. It unsettles me like no other movie but I watch it every time it's on because it's so damn good. The 360 degree head turn though is the one thing that bothered me because Reagan then should have been dead. Her neck was completely snapped. But ah, movies. I will suspend my belief for this one because I love it.
@singenstattatmen50969 жыл бұрын
Quickstar989 I have never seen the movie so I'm not very knowledgable about it at all; but from what I know I honestly wouldn't be surprised if her Body at that Point really was already dead and only being kept alive by the demon that possessed her. But then again what do I know.^^

First time I watched it I was only nine. I didn't sleep for 3 months. I think I was about 20ish when I made myself watch it again to get over the fear, now I'm able to always watch it but it's still disturbing. It's not a jump scare movie. It puts you in a constant state of fear and never really releases, and as things escalate you can't stop from watching even though you want to. .... that probably didn't help my argument that everyone MUST SEE THIS MOVIE.
@singenstattatmen50969 жыл бұрын
Quickstar989 When you were *nine*?! Man, that's messed up! And even worse is that I've read many comments now in which people said they watched it at such a young age - I wasn't even allowed to watch Pirates of the Carribean at that age.^^ But The Exorcist, really?! I'd never let my children watch something like that before they were *at least* 16, but apparently that's just me.^^ I am actually getting rather fascinated and curious by all these clips though, but I'm not quite sure if I should watch this movie all by myself, lol...

This movie still freaks me out, even thought I've must've seen it like 7 billion times over the years. I remember back in 1993, the had a 20th Anniversary Screening for it. My bff at the time and I, my brother and his friend went to see it. The whole theater was packed, but my brother and his friend didn't come in until halfway the movie (they were a couple of potheads, clearly was stone, and bought up most of the concession stand as a result of it). When the part came up with her turning her head completely around and focused on her for a spilt second before Jason Miller's character said, "Amen". The whole theatre was quiet, and my brothers friend bloated out loadly, "Man! That looks like my ex old-lady!" Everyone laughed and continued to laughed til the end of the movie. Even when everyone was was walking out, they were still laughing. The people standing in line for the next showing was looking like wtf? Moral of this is: See these types of movies with a couple potheads!!! 😂

Some people see the film now & go "meh", but please realize something. This was '72. The scariest thing to that point was probably "Psycho" & "Rosemarys Baby" which got their shock from psychological twists. Then, suddenly, this hit like a freaking nuclear bomb. In a single explosive orgy we had gore, special effects, a script bordering on heretical. Movie goers lost their friggin MINDS. This practically invented the *true* horror genre and to this day still scares the poo out of grown adults.
