Fun Fact: Die Actor who plays "Damien Karris" was very angry about the "🤮-Scene" because it was planned the puke hits his chest not the face! Fellow Swede Max von Sydow was only 44 when filming this which no one ever really notices, so the old man make-up is definitely top notch together with his ability to act like a frail man almost twice his actual age. And he basically looked the same as the make-up when he got old so they really nailed it. A true classic.

I met Linda Blair many times through the years at various autograph shows. She is one very genuine down-to-earth and kind person to talk to. Let me assure you that she assured me that NOTHING out of the ordinary happened during the filming. But it made for great publicity. I was about 14 when I would finally see the movie. I don't remember why it got my attention, but I turned around and there was this woman holding a crucifix and a bottle of Holy Water in front of her. And what I said to her I'm saying to you - "Lady, it's just a movie." Nothing was going to happen to you as a result of seeing this film. As one of the technicians so eloquently said "It was an illusion." But it sill amazes me that 51 years after it was released it STILL has the power to shock and scare people. And I can't even imagine in 100 years the effect will be any different.

Producer's note: I've watched the film many times before this reaction was filmed and I always viewed it as the two priests were simply friends, the same way you do. When editing this reaction, I couldn't help but think that Abby was onto something with her observation of the interactions between the two priests. So I dug further and found various non-scholarly references in which plenty of folks posited that the two priests were, indeed, gay. I also did find some scholarly sources with essays that broke the film down. In one, that is written with an eye on psychology, I found this passage: "In the book, Karras is gay, I might add. It’s extremely subtle - it was 1973, remember - and it’s in ONE line, to his handsome young roommate in the cloister at Georgetown, Father Dyer, when he refers to “guys like us…”. At the end of the movie, when Father Dyer visits the MacNeil house as mother and daughter are leaving for home in Hollywood, Dyer finds the house calm and Regan restored to full mental and physical health. As Regan leaves the house to board the taxi to the airport, she reaches up and kisses Dyer; it is implied this is because she recognizes his cleric’s collar and even unconsciously remembers Father Karras “saving” her. Ostensibly, Dyer is there to “check in” on mother and daughter in the aftermath of the ordeal, but it can also be interpreted that he is there to see where his lover died and process the loss. Dyer is reassured in his faith that Karras did the right thing by seeing the little girl whom Karras saved, at the expense of his relationship and indeed his life." There are no comments on the topic from either the writer or director. However, I found this quote in another article: "Director William Friedkin has a complicated relationship with the LGBT community. He directed both Boys in the Band (1970) and Cruising (1980)." Make of it what you will, but one thing is clear is that the relationship between the priests is not as clear cut as it may seem on the surface.

@@RuntotheMovies _"So I dug further and found various non-scholarly references in which plenty of folks posited that the two priests were, indeed, gay."_ Projection of their own condition is common in that community. I would stick to scholarly references. _"In ONE line, to his handsome young roommate in the cloister at Georgetown, Father Dyer, when he refers to 'guys like us…'"_ Much of the movie focused on Father Karras's struggle with the priesthood. That is what they had in common. They were both priests. _"but it can also be interpreted that he is there to see where his lover died and process the loss."_ If he broke out weeping in that scene, then this would be a reasonable interpretation. He just looks down and walks away. He looks *scared* not *heartbroken.* It is far more likely that he is contemplating the bizarre way his friend died. There is also a strong indication that he did not intentionally walk there. _"Director William Friedkin has a complicated relationship with the LGBT community. He directed both Boys in the Band (1970) and Cruising (1980)."_ Again, it sounds like projection. They are projecting that theme onto those movies.

I've never seen Toy so nervous through a whole movie before! Abby's attempts to ground her were fun. What has made this movie stand the test of time is William Friedkin's excellent direction, William Peter Blatty's great writing and the total conviction in the acting of Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Linda Blair, Max Von Sydow and Lee J Cobb. Plus the cinematography, sound design and choices of when to use and not use music. I'd love to see Tori react to this film.

It does not take 'effort', it takes doing something like playing with a Quija board where you are invoking a spirit, invoking is 'inviting', that's all demons need. Its not hard at all to become possessed actually. You can play the board without getting possessed right away or at all because demons are not omnipotent, people get lucky because demons don't happen to be around them at the time. But playing the board will eventually attract demons because they roam seeking human targets.

The first time I tried to watch The Exorcist (when I was a teen), I'd heard all the stories about how scary it was, how crazy it was, how people passed out from fear in the theaters, etc, so, tbh, I was a little nervous going into it. Thanks to the slow-burn, 1970s pacing, though, I ended up falling asleep halfway through. For years afterward, whenever the subject of The Exorcist came up, I told people I thought it was super boring. I finally went back a few years ago, as an adult, and finally watched the whole movie and you know what? It's really good. Great film, great acting, great FX (especially for the time), and just really well done across the board. Personally, I still don't find it particularly scary -- probably because I'm not religious -- but I appreciate it as a classic horror film that nails the unsettling vibe.

The procedure is called an angiogram. It is used to x-ray blood vessels in the body, specifically her brain in this scene. About the vomit, Regan's body was dying from the inside out. In the book, it talked about how bad the room smelled and how they had to change her clothes and sheets often. During the exorcism, Karras talks about how her heart is dying. The green vomit may be a bit bright but it is mainly an example of how the demon is killing her from the inside.

In the fall, one of the guys was hearing noises in his attic and it scared the stuff out of him. Turned out that squrriels had found a way in up there and there were a couple of nests. The noise was them moving around and having little fights.

I love how you see Boo's tail slide into frame like a shark fin before you see her. Coming in for predatory pets. They were performing an angiography on her in the hospital. As someone who has had an artery opened like that, it really does shoot out like that. It's pretty crazy, especially when you're laying there fully awake spurting blood. They're injecting a dye to see blood vessels on an X-ray.

1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱😱 2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always🤣 3. The spider-walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release. 4. The loud banging with the medical equipment is for dramatic effect. 5. Father Merin and the demon/Pazuzu had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis. 6. Chris MacNeil/Ellen Burstyn actually broke her coccyx when the demon makes her hard fall. That wince of pain is the real deal. 7. The first priest Karras admits his lack of faith to/Tom, was a real priest. 8. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter. 9. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her. 10. Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith. 11. RIP Willian Freidkin😇

As a dude, the scene where the demon grabs the psychiatrist by the crotch always hurts like hell. But that scene where she is stabbing herself with the crucifix is probably the worst. This film did for Ouija boards what Jaws did for water. Audiences freaked out seeing this in the 1970s with people fainting, vomiting, and running out of the theater. The Exorcist is based on the novel written by William Peter Blatty in 1971. He also wrote the screenplay for this film which won him an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The novel and film are inspired by the Exorcism of Ronald Doe. It’s a case from 1949 in which Catholic Priests performed a series of exorcisms on a 14-year old boy who was said to have been demonically possessed. Incredibly, The Exorcist was the first horror movie to be nominated for an Academy Award. (16:11) The doctors are performing a spinal tap, also known as a lumbar puncture (LP). It’s a procedure that involves extracting a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the spinal canal to diagnose or treat certain conditions like neurological disorders. This type of procedure is a way to treat or diagnose issues with the brain. (32:31-32:46) Father Karris was called over to the house by Sharon, Chris’s assistant. She opened up Regan’s shirt to show Father Karras the markings coming through her body. (42:12) The demon in the novel and film is based on Pazuzu. An ancient and powerful entity from Mesopotamian culture who is considered the king of wind demons. In scripture it’s said that he can control storms and drought. He is described as both a destructive and dangerous wind, but also a repellant to other demons. For the Exorcist, Pazuzu seems to have the ability to read people’s fears and guilt, which he can use to psychologically attack and manipulate people. (42:38) Father Merrin dies of a heart attack. This is why he had to take nitroglycerin in the bathroom a few moments earlier to treat his heart. For the scenes in which Regan/Pazuzu thrashes around in the bed, Blair was strapped to a harness. It would repeatedly bang off her spine. In a sequence in which the bed levitates, a technical failure from the mechanical bed shook her so violently that it fractured her back. The injury developed into scoliosis, leaving her in chronic pain for years. (44:45) The medallion, actually holds significant symbolic weight. It represents faith, protection, and the struggle between good and evil. At the end of the movie, the passing back and forth of the medallion serves several purposes: 1. Symbol of Faith: The medallion is a powerful symbol of Christianity and the belief in divine protection against evil. Its presence signifies the strength of the characters' faith in their battle against the demonic possession. 2. Connection to the Characters: The medallion is closely linked to Father Karras and Regan. As it changes hands, it reflects their respective journeys and struggles. For Karras, it symbolizes his fight to reclaim his faith and redeem himself, while for Regan, it represents the hope for salvation and liberation from the demonic influence. 3. Climactic Conflict: The exchange of the medallion during the climax emphasizes the ongoing battle between the forces of good and evil. It highlights the tension and stakes involved in the exorcism, as the characters rely on this symbol of faith to confront the darkness. 4. Resolution and Sacrifice: The final moments involving the medallion also underscore themes of sacrifice and redemption. The actions taken around the medallion culminate in a resolution to the conflict, reinforcing the idea that faith and selflessness can triumph over evil. Overall, the medallion is a powerful narrative device that encapsulates the film's themes of faith, struggle, and the battle against malevolent forces. The spider walk scene you saw after the film was a deleted scene that was put back in the 2001 directors cut. William Friedkin felt the this scene was too big a special effect and so early in the story, that it undercut the impact of Chris MacNeil having just learned of Burke Dennings' death. You ladies are beautiful and so lovable as always. Sending my best wishes and blessings out to you all! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

What an extraordinary cast. Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Jason Miller, the great Lee J. Cobb. Wonderful actors all. And then there’s Max von Sydow as Father Merrin. He was in his early 40s when he played this old priest. The makeup helped, for sure. But really it was his impeccable acting that made us believe him as an old man. In addition to some American movies, von Sydow had a lifetime of experience on stage and film working with Ingmar Bergman. Most famously, he starred in Bergman’s "The Seventh Seal" - one of the finest films ever made. I once asked a rather well known director who was the greatest actor of all time. His answer: "You mean besides Max von Sydow?"
@EntertainmentFan11
@EntertainmentFan11 Ай бұрын
Rest in peace, Max von Sydow (Father Merrin), Jason Miller (Father Karras), Mercedes McCambridge and Ron Faber (the voices of the demon, though the former provided most of the dialog), William Friedkin (the director of this movie), and William Peter Blatty (the original author). Edit: Also, this movie is considered to be one of the scariest ever made.

The novel was one of my favorite reads of the past few years, it's quite a cerebral story where Chris and Damien spend quite a long time struggling to rationalize Regan's condition as something that could be caused by a physical or psychological phenomenon but that's constantly challenged by things such as her speaking in languages she couldn't possibly have any knowledge of. In the film, the "help me" scene represents the point where Damien is finally convinced that what's happening to her is supernatural.

Ah yes, a film whose production was so plagued with mysterious incidents and accidents that William Friedkin asked one of the actual priests involved to bless the sets. The priest refused citing he didn’t want to provoke superstitions. Several days later the sets burned down. Upon reconstructing the sets, the priest blessed them. Both Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair suffered serious back injuries from filming certain scenes. And, of course, there’s the radiology technician who was later convicted of murder and suspected of being a serial killer.

I have never actually seen the Halloween movies🤯! I really want to! I know Jamie lee Curtis is in them and she rocks so maybe this year I'll make a one a day thing of them. I know there must be a lot of them so I gotta look into that. Same with silence of the lambs. I'm not sure how many there are. I would assume 2 or 3? Invasion of the body snatchers sounds icky! Lol so I definitely gotta make a movie night of that one! With friends of course. The omen!!! Now that one I saw in theaters with my brother. I was terrified!!! Oculus, however, I unfortunately let out a scream and the lady in front of me screamed too lmao. She was mad, I was embarrassed, and my brother laughed lol😂. The thing was amazing!!! Tori and I watched it together here on the channel. Tori is my favorite person to watch horror with ❤️. I may ask her to join me to watch the body snatchers movie you mentioned 😊. Carrie i dont know the story of but i do recall watching a newer version of the movie but only remember the blood being dropped at the end. Ill need a refresher on that one. Alien is always awesome! Now as for nightmare on elm street... that's a big no no for me lol 😅. As a kid I forced myself to try to watch them to get over that fear but it didn't work. The idea of him and how he works is absolutely terrifying lol. If he were real, I'd probably just end it myself and go without having him do it lol. 😅😅😅. I think the only movie I could watch with him in it was freddy vs Jason. I remember seeing a movie about freddy like he worked in a school? It's very faint and I can't remember it. My brother was the freddy fan so I tried to see it with him. I'm more of a leatherface gal. Lol. Loved him for a long time, but as I get older, I find myself drawing more to chucky. Must be a toy thing 😂😉. I have not seen any child's play movies yet so I'm going to add that to my Halloween list also. I only remember as a child, my family and I were at my uncles house. I wasn't allowed to watch but I went out to the living room where there was this beautiful big fish tank he had and I would just stare at it. Then I looked up to talk to my dad and saw this doll flip off a boy 🤣🤣. That's all I've seen. But I did see all the newer ones with his face stitched up. I haven't seen any Friday the 13ths either. I remember one shot of classic teens running and screaming it what might have been a cabin and he ran pretty damn good after them busting through a wall lol. In freddy vs jason is were I know him to move slow but somehow teleport 😂. Well thank you so much for your comment! If you know any others you would love to share, let me know. Anything with ghosts, demons, possessions are my top scariest things to see because of my own and my family's experiences lol so I generally stay away from those. But Halloween is my second favorite holiday (Christmas is my first 🥰, valentines day 3rd lol), so any fun ones you'd like for me to see I'd love to curl up with some popcorn and give it a watch. 😊😊😊❤️✌🏽 thanks again! And I hope you have a great rest of your week!
