Re: the Belter neck tattoos, when they first started colonizing the belt, a lot of people could only afford cheap vac suits with faulty metallic seals around the necks that would give them burns. The tattoos are meant to represent that as a sign of Belter pride.

Mars is the one that gets blamed by the crew because: A. They don't know about that belter who got caught stealing stealth tech B. They assume Earth is too busy dealing with climate change and 30 billion people over-stressing the ecosystem to update their aging space navy - so while they know Earth can build stealth ships, they think Mars is the only one who currently actually has stealth ships. C. That tracking transponder they found on board the Scopuli (bait ship with distress signal that made the Canterbury come to it) had Martian writing and identifying marks on it.

Did you know The Martian (the book and I guess the movie) is set in the same universe? There's a ship in a later episode named after the main character ("Mark Watney"). The authors of both series unofficially agreed to it.

It's just gravity differences guys. The people in the Belt can't handle Earth's gravity. Astronauts today need to constantly work out in order to not be so weakened that going back to Earth injures them, and astronauts spend months in space at most. Mars has about 1/3 the gravity of Earth, so the people from Mars can sorta handle being on Earth, but not as well. And no, no one can breathe on Mars.

People from Mars can not handle Earths Gravity without special training and/or drugs. Martian Military routinely trains at 1G, thats why they can walk on Earth, but average Martian would be at severe health risks.

The relationship between the crew is much different at the start from the books (for certain narrative reasons I think). And James Holden's biggest problem is that he can't keep his big mouth shut, but it is also his most endearing quality. He is the 'man without subtext' in the books but they gave him a bit too much subtext in the show. Chrisjen Avasarala is awesome, the major difference is that she freely use the word fuck with great enthusiasm & abundance in the books.

This TV showed a very real circumstances. When a space ship exploded in space, every tatter of that ship would like bullet and is lethal. All other nearly space ship or fighter would be damaged or destroyed. It also mean that after one fighter exploded, all X-fighter, Y-fighter or viper Starfighter in visual distance would be destroyed except ship have force field/energy shield or protect armor.

Computer controlled reactive armor would probably be the best defense. Small explosive charges released at the right moment to reflect/deflect incoming debris.

The Belter ate a wild mushroom. They live on a space station, its no different than on Earth we might walk through a forest and pick one and eat it. And mushrooms are a *HUGE* part of the belter diet because they're so easy to grow in abundance.

As both an expanse book reader and a fan of the show let me say: all your questions of this episode will be answered in the rest of this season, but before you dive into season 2, I`d advise you binge rewatch the whole of season 1 in one swoop whenever you`ve got some private time. you`il be amazed at how much "aha" moments you`il have as you can go as deep into the story as you want since, be warned, literally every sentence ties into the plot somehow, even scenes that seem like filler or worldbuilding have an impact in some way. but of course you already know that now since you`re on what, episode 5?

It is because the artificial gravity inside the capsule works by giving a constant propulsion acceleration push, so as long as there is gravity on the inside, anything dropped on the outside would fly away.
