I was actually thinking of this fun pulp cyberpunk book, Altered Carbon, when I commented: in one of the sequels the random elliptical trajectory was how they hid some pretty important files on the extreme future version of a hard drive.

To be fair, Miller fell in love with his own impression of her. He learn all about her via his investigation of her, so he know more about her than most people knows about each other.

Mars was basically a colony of earth until they wanted to become independent, so they spent most of their resources to build a military strong enough to defend against earth. That's why terraforming was put on hold. Mars could have achieved what the simulation is showing, if it wasn't for the centuries old tension with earth.

More specifically, Earth still outclassed them after they declared independence and was preparing to send an armada on the 9-month trip to Mars for an invasion, but then Solomon Epstein, a Martian, invented the Epstein Drive. The Martian government shared it with Earth to avoid war, and then used the temporary cease in hostilities to go full military, delaying the terraforming by about a hundred years.

Maybe a bit adlerzwei, but when they showed that episode i didn't immediately put it together that it's the reason they didn't go to war right then and there. I just thought they had to share it initially because they were still an Earth colony but i got it after thinking it through. It's also worth noting that when Earth was colonizing Mars there was a bit of a brain drain, with alot of Earth's scientific elite contributing to the colonization effort. It's one of the reasons Mars ends up getting a bit of a technological edge over Earth. The first Martians were essentially Earth's best and brightest so to speak.

Just the daily task of living on Mars is gonna lead to lots of little tweaks & innovations over time that add up to a huge technological gap a century later. Better environmental tech, agriculture, robots, material science, reactors.......pretty much everything across the board. Meanwhile on Earth you never have to worry about the oxygen cycle, UV protection & if your power goes out it's no big deal. That's a no-no on Mars. Everything has to function in the freezing desert & energy is at a premium. After a while everything will be tougher & more efficient out of necessity. All that tech ends up going into the fleet they build.

In the show his being in love with her and what not is more off-putting because you don't see that and in the books you get to read his thoughts/inner dialog. - Yes Rana, Naomi got that booty like WHOA! :P She is a dime.

YAY, you're back! :D Oh yeah...."Gunny" Bobbie Draper was referring to the last time Earth and Mars got really, really close to war. So many resources got diverted from the Mars terraforming initiative to gear up a lot more soldiers, ships, etc, to defend against Earth invading that the schedule for the terraforming got pushed back from "within Bobbie's lifetime" to...well, she's probably not going to see it now. It's a great in-show reasoning for Bobbie's anti-Earther sentiment. Can't wait to see what you think of the rest of season 2. **waits...impatiently** ;)

That missile won't move once it is placed because the gravity of the asteroid will keep it in place. There is a gravitational pull between all objects no matter how far apart they are, and it is based on mass and distance. The gravity of that asteroid would be stronger than any other gravitational pull around.

You guys finally got to meet the best character in the books. Bobbie, the 6'8 Polynesian Martian Marine. (Nearly impossible to cast and do a good job here). Willing to bet she becomes Nahid's favourite character. You finally got to learn what the 'blue stuff' is. The protomolecule. And the more you learn about it, the more horrifying it is. The rest of book one is adapted in the first five episodes of Season 2. Eros only happened about 7/10ths into the first one. You guys are in for a wild ride :)

I think you guys missed the boat on miller. Julie was his chance at redemption. he was a semi-crooked cop who never stood up for anything. He felt sympathy for her because she looked like she was lost, like he felt. it was more than being obsessed. She was his chance to redeem his past deeds.

Ehhh. Yes and no. It's important to recognize that the actual character of Julie had absolutely nothing to do with that. The Julie that motivated and inspired Miller to change never existed as more than a figment of his imagination. And Julie as an actual person with agency being disregarded so thoroughly by Miller (and in some ways, this choice being validated by the narrative) can hit close to home for people who've experienced the negative consequences of that decision. I know I've been on both sides of that particular type of idolization, and seeing it on screen did make me uncomfortable the first time.

Basically, Mars could continue terraforming...or they could build a military big enough to counter Earth. They couldn't afford both. So they put the terraforming on hold. The protomolecule is from outside the Solar System - alien - but from our universe.

I feel that the syfy shows don’t get enough love. For shows still going, Kiljoys, Happy!, Magicians, all great shows to react to that no one else seems to be doing. Blooddrive would be great but it was canceled and the grindhouse style of show isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Phoebe in the expanse is the actually delivery vehicle for the protomolecule, and it was discovered by a martian science mission to the moon

I was disappointed with this React video. A number of key points were cut out, including the meeting between Chrisjen and the Admiral at the bar. Also getting a bit irritated on a personal level with the complete lack of empathy with Miller as relates to Julie Mao. I understand the 10 min cap, though it's odd that that's not universally used with all videos (Black Mirror by example). Just some thoughts. Edit: Credit to Nahid for catching the reasoning behind Bobbi's aggression and belief in crushing Earth & Earthers. There's more to it, which is shown by the general actions and comments by Martians as a whole (everybody get's propaganda, even in a world with a -world- solar wide web).

The two part finale, I was nodding right along with you guys, just going, "Yep, I know, right?"
