'Monkeys and Microwaves' is a line from the book. Not really a spoiler, it's just like an easter egg for book readers "It killed humans, therefore it was a weapon. But radiation killed humans, and a medical X-ray machine wasn’t intended as a weapon. Holden was starting to feel like they were all monkeys playing with a microwave. Push a button, a light comes on inside, so it’s a light. Push a different button and stick your hand inside, it burns you, so it’s a weapon. Learn to open and close the door, it’s a place to hide things. Never grasping what it actually did, and maybe not even having the framework necessary to figure it out. No monkey ever reheated a frozen burrito."

And the best part is, that was a thought Holden was thinking, and Miller repeated it later on to him, confirming Holdens suspicions, that he really just is in his head/the nucleus scan of his head. The Martians hearing Miller: No. They never hear him. A lot of people think they do, but what they're hearing is Holden repeating something he just heard Miller say to him. Remember, "I push a few million buttons inside your head, you're talking to Miller." Only inside Holden's head.

one of my favourite scenes from the show as a whole was Ashford telling Diogo to shut up. *_Yeah, that's true. I have. And I've drunk real Earth whiskey out of a UN Admiral's mug and then scuttled her ship. I flew dark past a Martian battle group, and they never even knew I was there. And I've seen friends breathe the vacuum, and watched my only child burn. So when I tell you to tread carefully, you would do well to stop talking._* its an interesting way to let us know how badass and how hard Ashford's life has been while it is used to tell this kid to stay in his place and not to get too big for his mag boots.

"Like being pulled backward through an infinitely long tunnel of light, Holden was returned to his body. For one vertiginous moment, he felt too small, like the tiny wrapping of skin and meat would explode trying to contain him. Then he just felt tired, and sat down on the floor with a thump. "Okay, " Miller said, rubbing his cheek with an open palm. "I guess that's a start. Sort of explains everything, sort of explains nothing. Pain in the ass. " Holden flopped onto his back. He felt like someone had run him through a shredder and then badly welded him back together. Trying to remember what it felt like to be a size of a galaxy gave him a splitting headache, so he stopped. "Tell me everything it explains," he said when he could remember how to speak. Being forced to move moist flaps of meat in order to form the words felt sensual and obscene. "They quarantined the systems. Shut down the network to stop whatever was capping the locals." "So behind each of those gates is a solar system full of whatever made the protomolecule?" Miller laughed. Something in the sound of it sent a shiver down Holden's spine. "That seems pretty fucking unlikely." "Why?" "This station has been waiting for the all, clear signal to open the network back up for about two billion years. If they'd found a solve, they wouldn't still be waiting. Whatever it was, I think it got them all." "All of them but you," Holden said. "Nah kid. I'm one of them like the Rocinante is one of you. The Roci's smart for a machine. It knows a lot about you. It could probably gin up a rough simulation of you if someone told it to. Those things? The one's you felt like? Compared to them, I'm a fancy kind of hand terminal." "And the nothing it explains," Holden said. "You mean what killed them." "Well, if we're gonna be fair, it's not really nothing," Miller said, crossing his arms. "We know it ate a galaxy spanning hive consciousness like it was popcorn, so that was something. And we know it survived a sterilization that was a couple hundred solar systems wide." Holden has a powerfully vivid memory of watching the station hurl fire through the ring gates, of the stars on the other side blowing up like balloons, of the gates themselves abandoned to the fire and disappearing. Even just the echo of it nearly blinded him with remembered pain. "Seriously, did the blow up those stars to stop it?" Holden's image of Miller patted the column at the center of the room, though he knew now that Miller wasn't really touching it. Something was pressing the right buttons on his synaptic keyboard to make him think Miller was. "Yup, Autoclaved the whole joint. Fed a bunch of extra energy in and popped 'em like balloons." "They can't still do that, though, right? I mean, if the things that ran this are all gone, no one to pull that trigger. It won't do that to us." Miller's grim smile chilled Holden's blood. "I keep telling you. This station is in war mode, kid. It's playing for keeps." ----- Abaddon's Gate, Chapter 25

On Eros heading to Earth: It didn't choose to go to Earth and then Julie changed it. It was going to Earth BECAUSE Julie was in control. She was trying to go home, but her confused, scared, dreamlike state meant she had no real idea of what was happening to her or the implications. She stops because Miller explains it to her and convinces her to do otherwise.
@Plutodeli
@Plutodeli 3 жыл бұрын
Half way the theory, but i think PM chooses its messengers well, so it chose a pilot. Earth was always the destination, we can't ignore the amount of knowledge PM would assume exists there, Phoebe was headed that way. Besides that, there's a solid reason why the Investigator chooses a Detective, of course it's well positioned with 4th entity, the easy ride that the Roci crew is also a huge factor, but it needs a problem solver. PM steals knowledge, one might say, 113 times a second.

The Builders likely had no way to know that Earth -- per say -- existed. They had no eyes here. The moon Io was certainly one of millions sent out into the unknown, hoping to find organic life to use as biomass. But, certainly once it "woke up" in our star system, it would have headed toward Earth as the provider of the biomass it was looking for.
@sparrowlt

@@snarflcat6187 i think they discover potential systems like we do .. tons of light years away by spectral telescopes and radioscopes ..and those who show promising stuff they send a rock with PM wich will take some thousands or millions of years to get to and build a ring.. the thing is all it took to stop the PM from "asimilating" the solar system was Saturn "trapping" Phoebe in orbit.. so its not like it can change course or correct...
@Reedstilt
@Reedstilt 3 жыл бұрын
@@snarflcat6187 The Builders could have definitely known Earth existed and was inhabited by life, even if they were hundreds or thousands of light years away when they chucked Phoebe at us. We can already analyze the atmospheric composition of exoplanets. While our modern telescopes have difficulty resolving smaller planets, with more numerous, bigger, higher resolution telescopes scattered across multiple star systems, doing the same would have been trivially easy for the Builders. Coincidentally, when Phoebe came our way, Earth was going through the Great Oxidation Event (2.4-2.0 billion years ago). This was when our microbes kicked oxygen production into high gear and radically altered our atmosphere. The Builders probably notice that and figured there'd be enough simple lifeforms on that planet for the protomolecule to work it's magic.

Shooting inside the station was pretty risky, but what else were they supposed to do? The bullets probably weren't going 18000 kph, so it's no wonder they expected them to work. I would be on the Martians side - which is the side that doesn't want to make any rush decisions. Though i understand Holden's perspective - he couldn't wait and persuade them. He was already blamed for the deepfake and Martians seem to hold some grudge against him. In S01 he blamed Martians for starting war, he and his crew were then the only survivors of Donnager and "legitimately salvaged" the Tachi and I'm not sure if they believe that he and his crew truly saved Mars.

We as humans are used to red buttons that could end the world, but we are not used to walls and air fighting back. When i try to look at it from their perspective it makes perfect sense to me. This part (in series and in the books) is one of the biggest holes in this story for me. There is this new alien ring, nobody knows its purpose, delegations are coming to see it and try to decipher its meaning. And it turns out you can enter it and it looks like you entered a new dimension. There is a mysterious station in the middle of this space. Every new step opens a thousand new questions. People are committing suicide because they can't cope with this. And EVERYONE decides to ignore all that, ignore the obviously changed laws of physics, act completely oblivious to the alien station that opened its door for you - the ONLY thing in focus, the only goal of the human civilization in that moment is to apprehend Holden? I mean, I get it, some event was needed for the station to sharpen the rules again and to start treating humans as threat and Holden should have not been the trigger. But come on, something with more sense could have been done here. Even the simplest plot could have done it - the Orb is pulling all objects toward it, some captain or crew member could have panicked and tried to shoot it.

8:26 The Ringbuilders were a collective consciousness, a choir-mind of trillions across thousands of star systems. Together they were like a single song, represented by the bird. When the unknown aggressors struck they tried to purge the corruption, cutting off parts of the great choir-mind to remove the cancer. They failed. What was a song became a shriek. In desperation and horror, the collective realized their only hope was quarantine, to break apart the great parliament and seal their individual parts away. In mourning they made a billion goodbyes, but with the hope of reunion, the promise that one day, when a solution was found, all that was lost would be regained, and the vast mind restored.

@@DominickvdHoff Than detective Calvin got some extrasensory perception. There is no way of knowing exact quotes that will be used in season finale at this point of the show, unless you saw it prior.

@@andrey8021 I see why you might think that but it's not that hard to theorise things in a group for like 20-30 minutes and hit some spots. All of them have done this across many shows for a very long time and other reactors who are good at discussions and theorising have done the same. I also hardly doubt they have the time to watch all of these shows on their own time. I don't know if you're new here but It's not anything new
