Protomolecule be like: "You broke the floor, you become the floor". Also, I always like to point out how the passage through the ring really reflect the three different cultures: the Belters give a rousing speech about courage and destiny and jump through it with their eyes open, guns blazing and ready for anything. The Martians are all businesslike and efficient: send a probe in, see no immediate danger, move through with their warship. The Earthers slowly move in after everybody else with a ship full of artists, scientists and priests shitting their pants. That's the sum up of three different ways of seeing life in one swift moment.

I also like how the passage through the ring is slowly ramping up: Maneo - No showing of passage from inside ship, just splash, camera stays in our solar system Roci - No showing of the passage from inside ship, Black-out, camera "wakes" up inside the ring Martians - No showing of passage from inside ship, camera stays inside the ring while they pass through Belters - No showing of passage from inside ship, camera stays outside the ring while they pass through Earthers (which we viewers of the show are) - Finally we get to see/experience the passage from inside the ship

Nokta - your an earther.... ;) I think the mindsets more show their perceived views of the situation and how it relates to their personal reality. The belters view themselves as having the least control or power. There for move quickly to claim and hope that means something in the end. And also that whatever they claim doesn't blow up in their faces. Martians standard highly trained professional response from someone with a clear objective and orders to carry them out. Check for threat, no immediate threat detected, move forward to target (holden) at most practical speed. Someone yells "hey look free beer!". Martians on duty yell back "yeah, that's awesome we will have to come back when were off duty and check that out". Earth says I have all the power, all the authority and all the control. Why shouldn't I be as patient as I choose? I've got all the time in the world and all the options. I have no need or interest in risking my assests charging into something that for all I know is a toxic waste spill. Remember, earth still views Mars as a colony of earth just like the brits viewed the colonies in the US as a British territory and British citizens directly under British rule. The belters even more so. Anything the belters or Martians claim earth views as theirs by higher government authority anyway. The only thing about this show that I strongly dislike is the lack of ability, utter lack of training or discipline or willingness to fight in the UN military. I know that is just a narrative device to more easily tell the story. But I don't think it's necessary at all and actually takes away from the realism and story.

I love this quote from the Books by Holden on his way to the station. "It killed humans, therefore it was a weapon. But radiation killed humans, and a medical X-ray machine wasn’t intended as a weapon. Holden was starting to feel like they were all monkeys playing with a microwave. Push a button, a light comes on inside, so it’s a light. Push a different button and stick your hand inside, it burns you, so it’s a weapon. Learn to open and close the door, it’s a place to hide things. Never grasping what it actually did, and maybe not even having the framework necessary to figure it out. No monkey ever reheated a frozen burrito."

Good catch with the protomolecule tricking Holden. As Miller said a couple of episodes ago. The protomolecule builds the investigator. When the investigator fails, it kills him and build a new one. When Holden resisted Miller, that version of Miller got scrubbed and replaced with a better, more empathetic version. But it's all to get Holden to do what the protomolecule wants.

The "The Expanse" books are written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (the latter an assistant to George R. R. Martin), both under the pseudonym of James S. A. Corey, and was adapted for TV by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Those are the culprits of that mind-blowing sci-fierce ultra-weirdness!

@@murciadoxial8056 Yep, that was part of the deal when they sold the TV rights. They wanted jobs as script-writers on the show. That's why, even though some things are changed and simplified (for instance, Drummer is a composite of several characters in the books) the story in the TV show still adheres pretty closely to the books. It's also why, even when they make significant alterations -- for instance, Drummer again -- the changes actually turn out so consistently awesome. The original authors have helped tighten *their own story* in the adaptation to television.

Some people here really don't understand the concept of spoilers. *IF THE SHOW HAS NOT EXPLAINED SOMETHING YET, IT IS A SPOILER TO EXPLAIN IT HERE* You guys can debate the semantics of what constitutes a spoiler all day long, but I will tell you from first-hand experience that it makes Stephen very unhappy to have things about the show explained prior to the show getting there. It's really, really simple -- Don't explain something in the show unless Stephen & Nikki explicitly ask for it.
@TheDetailsMatter

I'm afraid you are the one who fails to understand. A spoiler is the divulging of details or events *not yet presented,* that will be presented in future episodes. However, explanations of what has *already* been presented are *not* spoilers. In Science Fiction, the point is to get you to *think* about what you have seen. Good SF shows follow the dictum of "Show, don't tell." You are presented with clues and are expected to work out what they mean for yourself. Very seldom is there an info dump included in the next episode that explains all. If that's the sort of storytelling you're into, allow me to suggest you stick to TNG reruns. Explanations of what has already been shown = Fair Game. Explanations of what has *not yet* been shown = Spoilers.

@@TheDetailsMatter if the show hasn't explained it yet, it's for a reason, and to explain it before the show does is to spoil the experience of the explanation. So whilst not spoilers in the sense you mention, it is potentially 'spoiling' it.

@@TheDetailsMatter So if the main character has already been shown, I can tell someone everything about that character already? Your logic falls apart very quickly because it is too vague. Just because there are already clues does not mean you can directly focus on it or need to explain people what that clue means. Let them figure that out on their own. Its not like everybody has to be aware of all details right away, everybody can experience an experience how they do. If you want to have people experience what you experienced then that is kind of controlling and egocentric. I am sure it comes from a place of passion but that still requires you to keep yourself in check. Maybe the other persons way of experiencing something can actually make you realise something new that you didnt notice before yourself that you can then appreciate. You wouldnt have that if you just have them experience it the same way you did.

Attributes of dandelions: --a weed with light green leaves and clusters of bright yellow flowers, each with hundreds of tiny petals and no particular scent. --Leaves are edible and fairly nutritious. Can also be fermented to produce a fairly intoxicating wine. --roots spread wide and burrow deep very quickly to monopolize any available water. (If not pulled entirely, will eventually grow back.) --Prolific. Each petal becomes a lightweight bit of fluff with a seed attached, that can drift on the wind for miles. Seeds will take root in almost any kind of soil. One dandelion becomes hundreds in a very short time, then thousands, then millions.

Just to clarify, the protomolecule formed the ring gate, not the Nucleus. That was already there in the not-space, the protomolecule just made a connection to it. Kind of hard to follow stuff like that if you haven't read the books yet.

Protomolecule was sent to build a Ring. It did that and sent "done" message. And got no response. So it used what it had and built The Investigator to figure out why. Miller was experienced detective so he was used as a template. In previous episode he talks how he is being killed and reformated every time he deviates from his job. Protomolecule never programmed anything before so it is doing it with trial and error. And Miller contacted Holden because he needed to get trough the Ring and Roci had that protomolecule onboard already he could use as a relay. During the descent to Nucleus he also explains that he needs Holden purely for his physical presence, program only cannot trigger Nucleus systems and he needs access to records. Which is what Holden saw. I bet when you were editing this it made more sense, there is a lot of info packed in there. More will be explained as the season goes on, you are in for a ride.

There was an incident in LA Skid Row where a homeless drug user took PCP and it gave him almost superhero strength. It took a lot of officers to pin him down. I wonder if the thing in her tooth is similar to PCP. I hear stories of when someone is in danger like a child pinned under a car, the mom user all her strength to lift the car so the child can get out. Is it like a huge adrenaline shot? Maybe this is what Mehailbhah/Clarissa used, she passes out after because she used all her energy. I mean medicine is so advanced like the pill that Martians use when interrogating people.

14:35 Miller is on the case. He wants to take Holden to the records room because that's where the next lead in the case is. 14:44 there used to be a civilization here and there isn't anymore. maybe Miller wants to go to the records room to find out what happened to them. He needs Holden to do it because it requires a physical connection. The vision at the end is showing holden what happened to the civilization that created the protomolecule. 27:11 you weren't seeing it repairing things. you were watching time go in reverse. it was supposed to be a signal that you were going back in time to see what happened in the past. The sun it blows up wasn't ours.

Last minute. Wtf? Book authors (9 book series, 9th and final instalment due out soon) are Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, writing under the pseudonym of James S A Corey. They have also been very involved in the writers' room of the show, so if we get 9 seasons (oh, please, pretty please!) they won't be Game-of-Thronesing it for the last couple of seasons. When this is all over, I do recommend reading the books. Steven: "This has gone so far past..." Book readers: "Dude, you have no idea." It's Diogo :) Hard not to binge from here on...

So you have read the books? I have just finished watching season four and I have questions but I don't want to get spoiled. It's about the mystery of the protomolecule and its creators. If you have read all the available books, are you any closer to understanding it? A simple yes or no would suffice. I'm asking because many times authors wouldn't even try to have an explanation, because 'magic can't be explained' or 'don't mind the plot, it was the friends we made along the way' or some other bullshit. I'd like to see something more profound at the end of The Expanse.

@@toncica The books advance the story of the protomolecule/ring creators slowly, but (as this story has done all the way through), pretty much every answer comes with two additional questions, so we don't really know how much closure we're going to get in the end (the ninth and final book is not out yet). Ty & Daniel have promised there will be answers, and I tend to trust them because they've done right by us all so far, but technically nobody can tell you how well explained this is going to be in the end, because none of us has yet seen/read the end. But I'm guessing they will answer things pretty thoroughly before the last book is over.
@toncica
@toncica 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonycamas9747 Thank you for the answer. It helps me having realistic expectations from now on. While season four was satisfying and I'm excited for the next one, I feel that the protomolecule subplot was advanced the least compared to previous seasons. One would have thought with an investigator onboard the clues would come together faster. But what if you no longer had that investigator, ...that probably doesn't help to pick up the pace.
@tonycamas9747
@tonycamas9747 4 жыл бұрын
@@toncica I don't want to wade to far into spoiler waters here, but I guess I would comment here that, in general, I have the sense that this story is less interested in the weird alien stuff than it is in how humanity deals with it. I think The Expanse is, above all, a human story, even though there is a fair amount of weird alien stuff weaved throughout. For me, this is just fine... I am just as invested in the protomolecule (and related) mythology as the next guy, but I would be lying if I said that was the main thing I was watching for. Everyone is different in this regard, though, so I'm not going to presume to guess whether you'll be happy with the story going forward. The fact that you still enjoyed season 4 bodes well, though. There should be much more of what you're looking for moving forward. I don't think it ever becomes the "main" story, or at least it hasn't so far, but there's more of it ahead, probably a good deal more then was in S4.
