The fire in Naomi's ship wasn't acting weird because of the slow zone. That's just how fire behaves in space. If puffs out like that when Naomi opens the door because of the vacuum.

In the book they do a better job of explaining why Anna is on the expedition to the ring. Since it might be a first contact situation they included representatives of the major religions. When the speed limit changed Anna was strapped in her bed so she was in a lot of pain from the bruising. She injected herself with pain killers and was pretty much high as a kite. That helps explain why she did something as impulsive as following Clarissa to the Roci. Because they crammed this whole book into half a season a lot of stuff was left out. You miss out on a lot of Clarissa's and Anna's stories. The book gives a lot of background on Clarissa, her mods that give her super strength and why she has them, and how she ended up impersonating an electrician. If you love the show, the books are very much worth reading. They're even better.

You girls seem to forget that Bobbie too was kind of insufferable and racist (she was very anti -Earth) when we first saw her. It took the betrayal from Mars and working with Avisarala that changed her for the better.
@quiett6191
@quiett6191 2 жыл бұрын
I like how this show deals with racism, the writing is soo good that we can understand why they feel that way, without condoning. With Bobbie we learned that the root of these feelings is her regret that she'll never see a "green" Mars. She would always be looking at that simulated picture of how an area looked once it was terraformed. This was shown in her argument with her superior officer. Basically that the threat of Earth had forced the Martian government into diverting resources from the terraforming project into developing their Military, thus delaying "the dream of Mars". She basically was of the mind that if they can just defeat Earth once and for all ASAP, she just might live to see atmosphere over Mars.

Great reaction and analysis ladies! I found myself constantly checking to see if you two had uploaded the next Expanse episode! I love this show so much and now find myself addicted to your journey on this show! The scenes with Ashford and Drummer are some of the best that I love! First time I saw Drummer sacrifice herself I almost had a heart attack! Naomi coming back to the Rocinante was very emotional for me. The conversation with Amos was very powerful. Ships are laid out like towers, from the lowest being the drive cones, and the highest being the control deck. When the slowdown happened, most ships got stuck in the purple flypaper nose first, in the direction they were going. But Roci has been spending her time avoiding being crowded into the bubble wall by the Xeussan,so she was accelerating laterally away from the bubble when the purple goo caught her all along one side. Rather than get bounced off the ceiling upon slowdown like everyone else in the flotilla, Alex & Amos got thrown sideways into walls. A little whiplash was the worst of it for them.

Holden's vision started with recent events moving backwards, in reverse order, so I'm pretty sure that means it was showing us further and further into the past. I love how every time they saw Ashford, they were certain he was about to die. Even after he makes it back to the bridge, and he's giving a speech to every ship, they still expect him to suddenly drop dead for some reason. It started getting really funny eventually.

Yeah, Bobbie's troops are a bunch of dicks. The Behemoth has an outer drum that can spin and then you can walk out on the surface when your head is pointed to the center, because of centrifugal force, like that one carnival ride. Nobody can go back to Earth. All ships are now so far away from the ring that food will run out months before they can gain the ring at the now twice-reduced "speed limit". This was mentioned in the show's dialog, but might have been easy to miss the import. Unless somebody can figure out a way to end the control being exerted by the Station, everybody is going to die. Also, it was established already that no signal can be broadcast through the Ring. I suppose that eventually some scout ship will go though the ring to investigate what happened, and maybe it could dip in, receive a transmission, and then exit back through the ring, but that's serendipity to a large degree, and it won't save anyone's life. It will just reveal the nature of their doom. Ideas, anyone? Or just patiently starve?

Anna was high on pain meds and not in her right mind when she pursued Clarissa - that's explained in the book. Also, she was on the ship along with other religious representatives since the expedition represented a possible first contact scenario with an alien intelligence. At the time they thought this was going to be the last season so they cut a lot of material out to condense the story to fit in the back half of the season.

It's interesting that you feel this way about Anna because I think she's my favourite new character from season 3. It's true that I might also not be as emotionally attached to her as other characters but I just think that from a literary perspective, she's such an interesting and original character. A female lesbian priest? I mean come on, when has that ever been done before? And maybe it helps to connect more with her if you read the books because I always found her to have such a unique perspective on things that we didn't really have up until then; I often disagreed with her opinions and her worldview but still, I always thought that she was just fascinating and was really a breath of fresh air to me reading the books. Especially because I don't actually like the first book _that_ much because the characters of Miller and Holden (who were the only POVs in the first book) were just too stereotypical and cliché, plus Miller's obsession with Julie comes across as even more creepy in the books. Later introduced characters like Bobbie, Avasarala and Anna are just way more interesting to me (Avasarala was only introduced in the second book).

Some things are more understandable when you know that the books were based on a tabletop science fiction roleplaying game that the author ran. So Anna's behaviour could have been a player decision not to wait and report on what she had seen about Melba, but to strap on a space suit and follow her and try to make the dice rolls to successfully arrive at the Rocinante as quickly as possible. Which would be a kick ass player decision because that character wouldn't have great stats in space walking and stealth and stuff, because she's obviously a talking skill character. Incidentally, my theory about how Carmina Drummer was named is as a reference to O Fortuna from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, which has some epic Timpani playing.

I think you girls have to let the storyline with Anna play out. For that matter with many secondary and tertiary characters in "The Expanse" series. I think Anna's was put there to represent regular non-scientific folks. She is the person able to project calm and reason in the face of chaos and madness. You'll see in the next episode the scientific approach nearly gets everyone killed ( and I mean everyone in the entire solar system). In the previous episode, the military approach had the blue goo stop a grenade from exploding. Lola has been dismissing Anna's contribution to the Ring exploration. Plus Anna herself had a moment of revelation when she realized she was more needed to offer comfort to those in mental and spiritual support. Trust the Expanse writer they will always lead you through.

Okay, a few things I've noticed about the vocabulary you two use. These aren't criticisms, at all -- your English is far, far better than my Serbian (which I don't speak, at all...) and that's a fact. 😄 So, a sun with its collection of planets and moons and asteroid belts and what-not is a solar system or stellar system. When we talk about "the Solar System," with the words capitalized, that refers to our own Sun (Sol) with its collection of planets. A bunch of solar systems (usually numbered in the billions) all orbiting a central object with great gravity is a "galaxy." Our galaxy is the Milky Way Galaxy, and its billions of stellar systems (including our Solar System) orbits a humongous black hole (singularity) in the center. Our galaxy is called a "barred spiral" galaxy, because it has four "arms" or "bars", composed of billions of stars, each, that extend from the central bulge of stars around the big black hole in the middle. The arms curl out and give the galaxy a pinwheel shape. Our solar system, with the Sun, lies on the inner edge of one of the smaller arms, the Orion Spur, of the Milky Way galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy, is one of billions of galaxies that comprise our universe. So, while it's certainly possible each of the portals Jim saw in his vision represents a different *universe* -- after all, this pocket dimension with the weird station at the middle is certainly not normal -- its more likely they were just windows into different *solar systems* , because we only saw one star in each. Amusingly, in the books you learn that Pastor Anna spent a couple of years on Ceres as a missionary, and that's where she learned to use a space suit. You also learn that the sudden stop banged Anna around enough that she needed some pain-killers to keep functioning, so she was pretty high when she decided to chase down Clarissa. There's a funny bit, in the book, where her mind starts to clear as she's crossing to the Rocinante, and Anna realizes she'd done something *really stupid* , jumping out of the UN battleship to chase a killer. By then, though, Anna was most of the way to the Roci, so she just kept going. 😎

Regarding the ring gates, all of the ring gate destinations are within the Milky Way, and of that they encompass only a tiny minority of that space. All the star systems they lead to exist within something like a 10,000ly bubble within the galaxy. This is explained in book 8, I believe, when Elvi is commander of the Falcon and is surveying the weirder ring systems. They've been using star parallax to try to match stars in each system's night sky with the ones they know from Earth. The protomolecule engineers, despite all their technology, never overcame the speed of light, and so, never actually spread that far across the galaxy.

I'm sure others have mentioned this and I'm sorry to be picky -- when you are referring to different "universes", I think you mean different solar systems. Not a big deal, but for astronomy geeks like me, we can be ... geeky. ;-) And other reviewers would refer to solar systems as different universes, too. All of the planets and the Belt that circles are our sun is in one solar system. Our solar system is within the Milky Way Galaxy which contains an estimated 100 thousand million stars. And there are an estimated 100 billion other galaxies in the universe. As far as scientists know, there is only one universe. Everything that astronomers can see with telescopes and other equipment is in one universe. There are theories of there being different universes. But they are just theories. That said, I love your reviews!

If wounds don't drain under zero-G then just lower the hull pressure. There, I just saved everybody.

Would make no difference to wounds draining at all, especially internal ones. And you've just reduced everyone's oxygen intake.

@@blackpaw29 Have you ever used a straw to drink liquid? Have you ever been on the top of a mountain or in a plane? Are you even aware that the technology to drain wounds at zero-G was invented a century ago? The "sci" in this sci-fi show doesn't even reach the level of a highschooler. It's Star Wars level "sci" as in non-existent.
