"Blade boys humping shank" is Belter slang... which Holden couldn't possibly know. Drummer recognizes this, which is why she gives him such a weird look. Whatever he's talking to, it's not him simply having a few screws loose.

The part with Drummer with the grenades was a brilliant trick on book readers because of Drummer filling in the role of a character named Bull. Bull's last chapter in Abaddon's Gate is him deciding and sacrificing himself with the grenades to give Holden, Naomi and the rest of the Martian marines they had (they had a squad helping them, they were awesome) time to escape up the shaft. Also, Nahid needs to learn the difference between a universe, galaxy and system and the scale of each. lol. PS: We know the writers are already at work for Season 4, it's rumored filming starts again in the winter.

takanara7 really doubt that would be really stupid and it would make the show lose points for its scientific authenticity, no society that can travel between universes would use gates like Abandon’s Gate because it’s just a waste of time as opposed to just putting that energy into FTL.

The creators of the show have said that they would have liked to have a some more minutes of running time in the back half of this season, but simply could not because of the time constraints of classic TV. Something they are happy to get rid of, thanks to Amazon. The book "Abbadons Gate" takes its time to really flesh out the characters more. Clarissa Mao becomes much more believable and likable that way. On the other hand, Ashford in the books was quite a letdown (at least for my taste). He is the worst aspect in an otherwise excellent book. Show-Ashford has a vastly improved personality over book-Ashford, which was a big surprise to me.
@takanara7
@takanara7 6 жыл бұрын
Basically the entire way in which you got to the conclusion was different. In the books a bunch of religious people got together and wanted to try destroying the ring station with the com laser. The idea of setting a nuke off next to the ring station is something pretty ridiculous that no real scientist would just randomly try after what happened on the station.
@sparrowlt
@sparrowlt 6 жыл бұрын
However Anna and Ashford are much better in the series than in the book ...and Drummer so far is just epic. However Bobie felt like shoehorned into.. i know she is not in AG but in this part of season 3 she felt forced in .. maybe it was just so they justify her becaming a part of the Roci crew

Mickey is kind of right that not knowing whether or not the show would be renewed made the writers change the way they approached this season, but they didn't change the story because of it. They condensed the adaptation of book three compared to the first two so they could reach the end of the book at the end of this season. Clarissa Mao's story arc from monster to redemption is much, much more fleshed out in the book. What happens on the Behemoth is also a lot more complicated in the book. That said, this was a prefect place to leave off in the event the show wasn't saved. This was a fantastic season finale.

I like that, as unhinged as Ashford became this episode, he was driven by the motivation to save the lives of those back home. He wasn't some cardboard villain. He thought he was doing the right thing just like Holden and the others. Normies, I want to thank you again for hooking me into The Expanse. Three seasons in and I remain committed to the series. The move to Amazon won't change that. This is truly great, epic television. And I believe six months passed between the rescue of Pratt's daughter and the start of the Abbadon's Gate storyline.

Also, I hate to do this since it could be a spoiler, so you know, read ahead at your own peril, since your speculation is actually decent and I don't want to ruin that. The beach planet is... ...a random planet from the catalogue of worlds that the station had. Miller runs it as a simulation inside Holden's head, and claims it's the "most Earth-like world" he could find. It's literally just a place for them to have a conversation in; the rings aren't literally in the sky, just simulated imagery. So far as we know (and bear in mind, we lowly book readers don't know everything) the planet isn't especially important, tough maybe this will change in the adaptation or be something revealed later in the series.

Still watching the end of the video, but you guys didn't seem to get what the "flash" was that went into Holden at the end as he passed the event horizon of the ring back into normal space - it was Miller (or whatever you want to call him now, the investigator?). When Holden saw him on the beach in his vision, they both said they wanted to know what killed the alien race that created the protomolechule, and Miller turned to him and said "Gonna need a ride". He basically implanted himself into Holden as a sort of energy passenger by the looks of it.

Miller as the protomolecule manifestation has already been traveling with them via the overlooked protomolecule residue on the Rocinante. this is the best show on TV, so much better than westworld will ever dream to be, and that with just a fraction of the WW budget. i just hope that S4 wont have the GoT S7 effect with a massive production budget but a drop in writing (since it seems the limited resources forced the tv creators to be more ingenious in using the budget and focusing on characters. also the fact that we still have books kinda helps so fingers crossed and cautiously optimistic) i cannot wait for S4, the expanse is definitely in my hall of fame and finally a worthy successor to BSG (BattleStar Galactica). and we still have like 5 to 6 books to go. so frakking excite. thanks so much for your awesome reactions. see you next year!

The Ashford hate is annoying. U are results oriented. He did what he thought was right with the information he had. And how do u know Miller is not trying to use Holden to make him trigger the distinction of the solar system. To answer your question about what planet was in Holden's vision. I think that beach scene is from the time the station was functioning and has people living in it. Remember that station is full of proto-molecules and it can turn into anything you want if you are the citizen and can control it. I think the station can turn into a habitable planet! but since the old masters died off the station kinda turn back into default mode.

Damn, Micky... I'm with you on the Mass Effect trilogy thing. So many similarities! In the previous video I commented about how Protomolecules = Protheans, What killed them = Reapers, Holden = Shepard. Now, on top of that, "the hub" = Mass Relays. The first book is from 2011 and ME is from 2007. This MUST have drawn inspiration from ME. And I'm completely ok with that.

FYI, we know next to nothing about season 4 on Amazon yet. Neither about its budget (higher? lower? same?), the number of episodes or how they plan to release it (weekly? all at once? in batches?). All we know is that the episodes will be longer since they won't be bothered with sticking to 42min length (could be 50min or even hour long) and inserting fade to blacks for commercials.

How big the Behemot/Nauvoo is? its huge.. really really huge.. its 2400m long and over 500 diameter ..it can contain a full Donnager class battleship inside the drum sideways without the later touching the drum. To put it on perspective the Behemot is literally a 2km section of Babylon 5 (not a 2km escaled B5.. but a 2km section of the drum cut out) .. but with propulsion..and the B5 cylinder wasnt even the full 8.5km long (there was the reactor and machinery in the back)
@sparrowlt
@sparrowlt 3 жыл бұрын
edit: Recently the artists confirmed Babylon 5 is way more than 5 miles.. the 5 miles apply only to the rotating "drum" or cilinder.. the front docking yaws and rear reactor section dont count on this so B5 is fully arrround 9-10 miles long

I think that rana is right about how the next season will begin. Holden did say that it will be like the gold rush so we will see that play out. There will be a lot of conflicts between the different groups on who gets to lead the exploration. It will most likely be between earth and the belt since they proved themselves in the ring. I think that Mars will side with the belt. The next season will probably start with the first probe going into another ring.
@sparrowlt
@sparrowlt 6 жыл бұрын
the problem is that the Belt is at clear advantage in this pursuit.. they have much more experience and small ships to espread ..and Earth and Mars just came out of a war and have a more military oriented fleet than a rock-hoping/asteroid mining one ..and Belters are much more acostumed to live in space.. However if they find 1G or more planets thats will play havoc for non earthers

I may be wrong, but I am thinking they added the scene with Miller at the end after they knew that the show had been renewed and had him say: "I need a ride" (ie from Holden and the Roci)so he can go into the other solar systems and find what killed the protomolecule developers. It also seems clear that the protomolecule does need a living host in order to develop its ring as the sample sent to OUR solar system got trapped on Pheobe and couldn't seem to develop without us. (Hard to imagine why Venus was a more habitable environment but it also had the "biomass" of Eros AND Julie and Miller to work off of.) Anyhow I LOVE watching all of you react to each episode and a big shout out to Rana who has a LOT of great guesses and insight!

I must be the only one that thinks "Miller" is in Holden's mind / body now. You can't keep connecting it to the protomolecule on the Rocninate because Miller appeared to Holden while he was on the Behemoth. Once they exited the Ring, whatever is pretending to be Miller hoped on board the Holden express.

OK. The Expanse and Mass Effect: 1. Holden is Shepard. 2. Rosy is Normandy. 3. hybrid is husk. 4. Abaddon's Gate is retranslator. 5. Mao's Company is Cerberus. 6. the thing that Holden touched is Prothean beacon. 7. a mysterious civilization that has disappeared is Prothean. 8. UN is Alliance. 9. Errinwright is Udina. 10. Avasarala is Anderson. etc.

With that civilization having predated humanity by billions of years, I like the idea that it 'rewarded' humanity by mapping the route to 1300 *human*-habitable systems. That civilization's age of experience, to me, implies that they probably mapped gates to millions, if not billions more systems, and just gave us a tiny, little allowance, juuuust enough to get us to the next level over the course of a few thousand years. Like they just gave us some training wheels and an atta-boy.

I loved a bit that the show didn't touch on much but also didn't change: Part of the reason that Holden was able to complete the circuit is that in the Protomolecule civilization a physical form was "expensive," with the implication that intelligent being who had one would of course have clearance (the other part was Miller messing with the systems a bit).

I will say, given what we saw onscreen and having read the books, I wish we would have had more time in the season to flesh out the conflict in the last three episodes. Clarissa's redemption arc is my favorite out of all the books, and while they did a good job, I would have loved to see what they could have done with even one or two more episodes to really get into those characters, maybe do a little more with the engine room fight, bring in Corin from the books, something like that. Ashford in particular is AMAZING in future seasons, I think that is one thing that book and show readers agree on, he is a marked improvement from the books.

In the last scene, Miller said "I'm going to need a ride", and just as the Rocinante crossed the threshold back into normal space, something entered Holden's body. I think a part of Miller has either possessed Holden, or become a permanent part of him.

Even book readers aren't quite sure yet what that thing Holden saw at the end was. We're up to book 7 and by the way it ended, it sounds like book 8 will give us a better idea what it is even though we got a glimpse of what it could be in book 7, but all we know is that it's attracted to protomolecule tech. This ending would seem to suggest it's a ghost in the machine of sorts, and while we haven't seen anything to lend credence to that claim in the books we also haven't seen anything that disproves it. Whatever it is, it seems about as indifferent about us as the protomolecule is.
