Naomi didn't abandon the kid, he was *taken* from her. She said that she searched desperately for him for a long time everywhere but couldn't find any sign of him. It was mentioned briefly in one of the earlier episodes.

Not just earlier episodes, that would have been excusable to have forgotten, but Naomi actually mentioned it in the same conversation with Holden ("the man I loved took him away"). It's amazing how the normies claim that they can keep talking over the show and never miss anything because they have subtitles on, yet miss crucial pieces of information all the time. Then they will immediately attack a character and call them a horrible person or some other ridiculous overreaction like that, while being completely wrong about the premise because they missed stuff due to not paying attention. It's pathetic really.

Yesterday SyFy announced that they won't be renewing The Expanse for season 4. The show is currently being shopped around to other distributors. Netflix or Amazon MUST pick it up. I have complete confidence that its characters and story can carry it to great success -- it just needs the right distributor! This is the best scifi show on television right now, and it'll be an absolute shame if it is permanently canceled. We do have the books, so we'll at least get to read how the whole story plays out, but to see it on screen is an experience that we must see through to the end. #SaveTheExpanse Check out The Expanse subreddit for ways to help save the show.

GO24Seven they have international screening rights outside USA but those outside USA have to wait 6 MONTHS to see it because if the stupid deal with Syfy. Cutting SyFy out will allow Netflix to go for full global rights and if they are smart they put up $ to back the show for at least the next 3 seasons

Since it seems like there was a bit of confusion about what Nguyen was doing at the end, here's my interpretation: When the Agatha King first arrived at Io, Nguyen contacts Mao, and has him "transfer launch controls of the hybrid pods". So I think it's pretty clear that Nguyen is the one who launched the hybrids at the very end of the episode. I don't think he's trying to escape. I think he knows he's dead, and that all is lost, especially with the Earth ships firing on each other while the Martian ships sit back and watch. So at the end when the Martian captain radios the fleet to offer assistance, his response is to launch the hybrids at the Martian ships, where I guess they can take out those ships from the inside (at least, that's what I'm assuming he's firing at). From his perspective, it would be the only way left for Earth to "win" the war against Mars, as messed up as that might be.

Another solid episode of The Expanse. Your groans of frustration after the cut to credits sums up how I felt by the end. Now I have to wait to find out how all of this turns out. The mutiny was an explosive piece of great television. I love, in a drama, when things go from 0 to 100 in a matter of minutes. It upsets me that Syfy chose to cancel The Expanse. I pray the show finds a home somewhere and not be left unfinished.

They don't have the funds to run the show. It makes sense looking at how their business work. The licensing forces them to run the show first through cable and that doesn't get them enough views. Honestly SyFy is just running a very outdated business model.

SyFy doesn't produce this show. The licensing situation for this show is causing problems. SyFy has the tv rights in the USA, Amazon has the streaming rights there as well, Sky has the rights in New Zealand, Space has the rights in Canada, and Netflix has the rights everywhere else. Alcon should have gone with Amazon or Netflix right from the get go for the USA.

One of those things was even only a miniseries! Come on! I had a terrible time trying to watch season 2 before season 3 came out. I missed the first few episodes and found that they weren't available for streaming on the Syfy site. I had to bite the bullet and get Amazon Prime for a little bit just to watch it. I waited at least a year for the entire 2nd season to be available on Syfy but it never came. Terrible way to keep viewers. I'm really worried about good shows in this new age of streaming and fractured rights. Syfy can make a show but have sold streaming rights elsewhere. What is that going to do to these shows? How many streaming services are people going to pay for in the end?

I am so gutted that this was cancelled. I can understand why SyFy did it though. 400,000 viewers per episode is way too few when they only make money from live viewership. Since Alcon owns the show and fully intends to shop it around hopefully Netflix, or Amazon or someone else will pick it up. The show is just too amazing to die. This was a fantastic episode. People like to compare this show to Game of Thrones, but I think a refreshing difference between the two is that in GoT the UNN would have fallen in line with Nguyen and he would have stuck around to be a thorn in everyone's side for another season or more. The Expanse is dark and gritty, but it has a healthy amount of optimism too, and I like that.

I haven't read the books but it makes sense that at least the first Martians would bear similarities to our first "new world explorers", with most of them being made up of people who were from the lower classes rather than people that enjoyed a higher societal standing. We can also presume that even if Earth is more populated now, the eastern side is likely still more populous as well given we see representation on both sides.

That was a UN ship, not a martian one. As for your theory on Mars, it's actually the opposite. Mars was the scientific frontier. Only people with exceptionally good education, skills and training were sent there. The books say that the first colony on Mars was the Mariner Valley and the colonists were mostly Texans, Chinese and East Indians. This is why Alex speaks with a texan accent and likes country music, the commander of the Donnager looked asian and there are a bunch of "brown" people on martian ships. The lower classes stayed on earth on basic assistence or went to the Belt to find work.

Douglas Yes, because finding a job on Earth is nearly impossible. You need to be the most qualified, skilled and connected with a ruthless competition within a population of 30 billions. And even if you're lucky enough to secure a position, that's not guarantied for your children. So if you have a good position it could be better, for the sake of your son, to move to Mars where jobs are available for everybody. But immigration rules are very strict. They live under domes, after all.

Praying it goes to Netflix or Amazon. The show is incredible, there is obviously value... the problem is SyFy can't market it. The show would have wide appeal but the SyFy name doesn't, and that turns people off to it. Netflix already has the international streaming rights to it. That episode was amazing, love all the political intrigue and everything while the admirals and leaders in the field, free of politics, make the right types of decisions. That Martian captain is amazing. So smart.

This is eerily similar to Star Trek getting cancelled after 3 seasons. Hopefully a revival won't take 10 years. Judging from the reviews, I think there could be a big craving for realistic sci-fi once people see a few episodes. The same way that Star Trek made space opera mainstream The Expanse could do the same with hard sci-fi. (even though it's still space opera, but with lots of hard sci-fi) If anything good comes out of this---even with permanent cancellation----hopefully it garners a cult following, which will make people ( & future directors ) want to explore more hard sci-fi.

Brooklyn 99 was cancelled then got picked up by NBC so there's always hope, especially since Syfy wasn't actually making the show themselves, it was already being made elsewhere.

Episode 6 is supposed to be the most expensive episode yet and the Finale of Calibrans War. They announce cancellation a week before so everyone tunes in and watches. I'm sure I heard the networks plan is 3 seasons and seek out another networks support in producing more as Sy Fy still retains the rights to air a season 4 on tv if Netflix or Amazon picks it up.

show was canceled by SyFy because there weren't enough live views. streaming services don't count toward live viewership and since the deal between SyFy and Alcon was based solely on live viewer numbers it doomed the show on SyFy at least. side note: how the fuck can Krypton be more popular than The Expanse. SHAME *bell*

Yeah, as of a few days it's been cancelled. Yeah, the producers are shopping it around. People saying Netflix, but in reality that may be difficult. For one, Netflix has a rating system they use before they even consider it, the expanse is below that mark and two, the expanse is a high budget sci-fi, and netflix already has a lot, i mean a lot of those. The new streamers, like Apple, have already purchase a whole sci-fi catalog. Amazon or Hulu are real viable, though I know they want to concentrate on original (in-house) programming with large budgets. The budget will be this shows obstacle. Well the last episode is July, I wonder if they add scenes.
