It’s amazing he says ‘Languedoc’ flawlessly, yet ‘Sacrament’ ‘heresy’ and ‘estimates’ he sounds like an alien.

Damn fine definition of Gnosticism. Most explanations of it are pretty convoluted and muddled, but you explained it succinctly and now I finally know what it is.

i always found religion very interesting from an anthropology perspective. you can use it as a really good way to tell what aspects of human society have changed the most over time by what kinds of religions have struck around and which ones are lost to history. i think theres a really interesting correlation between the rise of monotheism and the transition from the iron age to late antiquity and medieval period

Catharism/Albagensianism seems more like a form of Gnosticism

Arianism, of a sort, is still around. It is a belief held by Jehovah's Witnesses

Islam is also a form of Arianism, and was considered simply another Arian heresy at the time of its invention in the 7th century. (st john of damascus)

The religions praising science and common sense simple turned into modern knowledge

Arian/nestorian unitarianism (as opposed to the orthodoxy's trinitarianism) survived to this day most and foremost in islam which originated outside the Roman resp. Byzantine Empire where such ideas had been prevalent particularly after followers having fled there to escape imperial church persecution. Mohammed had unitarian christian friends and family including an uncle and a wife who encouraged his delusion after he had returned from the cave by telling him that he appearently had to be a prophet of the one undivided god just as the other mere human Jesus had once been. Mohammed was more of a unitarian reformist than a founders of religion - the latter impression is owed to historical perspective more so than history of ideas which is perfectly valid but still just one facet of the whole thing which can thwart people's understanding of issues and history at large sometimes. In many regards Mohammed was more of a christian than a modern day evangelical. Probably in most even..

Well, seems that for all matters and purposes the cathars had been actual christians in contrast to, well, christians - appearently one of them had actually read the bible because that's how it sounds according to how you described them. If you think of yourself as a christian and think there would be something like a true christianity contrasting with a ton of later corruptions then I'm sorry to tell you that you aren't playing for the good team and that it's too late anyways because evil has one because there is not a single denominations adhering to even the most foundational tenants of christianity as outlined in the New Testament - but a ton of made up stuff such as the trinity or barely 150 years old supersticions like the rapture, babbling gibberish or taking the bible as if it was meant to be a scientific book, all things unheard of in 1800 years and perculiar to norzh american cults only.
