Phly, my Dude, as I'm sure someone has already commented, you're trying to use the F-89 for something it was never intended for. Those rockets were designed to take out bombers. Don't know why war thunder is calling it a fighter, but it was an interceptor. Also built during a time when the thought that guns were no longer going to be necessary on aircraft.The scorpion has an interesting design history, you should read up on it some time.

Set the rocket proximity detonation at around 700m and hunt bombers. The F-89D is far more lethal hunting bombers than ground targets.

Here's my understanding of the packet loss crashing issue from an Australian who experiences this issue a lot when the server traffic is high: Packet loss is when data from the clients end fails to reach the destination server: In realistic battles, the plane doesn't fly perfectly straight, and small incremental adjustments on the client's end are constantly being made automatically to keep the plane flying level. When packet loss occurs, the WT servers only receive the last course adjustment the client sent, resulting often in the ailerons, elevators and rudder, being stuck in a single position to correct the planes last flight change. This results in the aircraft overcompensating and beginning to fly off course. At this point, your client is trying to make drastic course corrections to fix your heading, so when the next packet of data makes it through to the server, the control surfaces suddenly make huge adjustments to re-correct the aircraft's direction. The inevitable occurs however and further adjustments are lost due to the Packet loss, resulting in the control surfaces remaining stuck in their new drastic positions, leading to more massive over corrections. The flight compensations get worse and worse until the aircraft ends up in an uncontrollable dive, resulting in the players death... TL:DR: Packet loss causes the planes flight surfaces to throw the aircraft into the ground. It is frustrating beyond belief.

Yeah Phly, that massive packet loss is an issue that's been brought up to Gaijin on several occasions. Gaijin's response is that they are absolutely positive that it's the player's fault and not their server, and that, in attempt to resolve the problem, players should 're-install the game with their firewall completely disabled and their computer open entirely to hackers' while Gaijin takes no responsibility for the problem if your computer get's fucked sideways on a spaceplane flying across Mars.

I mentioned that in my comment. I ruined a Tu-4's day during a simulation battle the other day. The bomber pilot was actually shocked as he/she had never been engaged by F-89D before. Side climb up the map...wait for a base to be attacked....fly in from above and rain rockets on the bomber. The F-89D is vulnerable for missile attacks in the higher teired matches. This is all done in simulation battles. I've never used it in RB or much less AB. It's fun and lethal if your patient and smart. These two jets F-89B & F-89D were gifted to me by a friend of mine....I probably wouldn't have bought either of them but I'm glad I have them both. That F-89B has some nasty cannons and serves a purpose if flown properly....as with many other unique vehicles in War Thunder. Sorry for the long comment.

Also this is the only plane I have seen that can shatter a Tu-4 into many many pieces. If your skilled and know the rockets trajectory you can go without the proximity fuse and set destination for impact which is pretty vicious. I was hoping you'd do a video on this jet. Would you like some Phrys with that salt? Iph the answer is yes, take part in helicopter enduring confrontation with only the Mi-24D. Suphpher through that phor a while, and try to get Gaijin to phix that mess oph a mode. For example, if you are going 200+ mph in the Mi-24, it will uncontrollably roll hard right when you pitch up.

The F-89 Scorpion was one of the first purpose built nightfighter/interceptor to replace the P-61 Blackwidow. If I remember correctly it was the start of the guns are the past thought process in the USAF. The rocket armed versions were meant to launch a volley into a bomber formation and in theory stay outside of the lethal gun range of the defensive turrets. The ultimate development of the Interception with rockets was the Genie nuclear rocket which the F-89 could carry. The rockets were eventually replaced by guided missiles such as the AIM-4, AIM-7 and AIM-9. I'd like to see Gaijin add the F-89H and 89J to the main Air Force tree at 7.3 and 7.7. The H had 6 AIM-4s and 42 rockets in the wingtip pods, while the J had 2 Genies (of course would not be used in game), and 4 Falcons with either the wingtip fuel tanks from the B or rocket pods from the D.
